Re: Bound For Glory Discussion Thread
OK, here are my thoughts on BFG.
It was a very good PPV, and definately TNA's overall best of 2008. It wasn't as good as last year's, but I hold that show up as the best PPV in TNA history, so thats kind of hard to top. I'd say 2008 is at least on par with 06, and maybe a little better. It was a great show.
First of all, I really enjoyed the backstage segments with Foley, Cornette, The BP, Kong & Saeed, AJ, & Team 3D. Foley brought his comedic A-Game and provided some good laughs.
Steel Asylum = This was a crazy spotfest, and a really good one at that. This was much betteer than the first one they did at Sacrifice. They tied in the Lethal/Sonjay feud which was a nice way to give the match focus, and the spots were nothing short of awesome. Really exciting way to open up.
Bimbo Brawl = After Steel Asylum, this was the best selection to follow as this was kind of just a filler match. It was ok for what it was, even though Rhaka Khan should never step in the ring again. She is greener than St. Patrick's Day.
X Title = I liked all the stuff they did before the match as it really got some great heat on Bashir without going too far. It wasn't the showstealing match that the X Title match usually is at BFG, but I think it was a good showcase for Creed & Bashir who proved that they can deliver a really good match.
KO Title = Surprisingly short, but still really good and exciting. All 3 girls did well in there, and Taylor broke out some new moves. It was a fun match. I'm surprised they kept the title on Taylor though.
Monster's Ball = Everybody says that the 05 Monster's Ball is the best, but I think this one may have topped it. It was a great combination of tag team action & hardcore insanity. The flaming table spot was just insane (poor Abyss), and so was the Thumbtack table spot (poor Hernandez) and all kinds of crazy goodies coming into play. All 8 guys did very well in there and they all got their moments to shine. BMI & LAX showed why they are the two best tag teams in TNA right now. Mongo didn't have much of a presence other than that big comedy spots with BMI, but his counting wasn't that great. But overall, this was a really fun and wild match, & and a definate highlight of the show.
3 Way War = We go from Ultra Hardcore to more pure in ring action. This was a pretty damn good heavyweights 3 Way match. All 3 guys worked very hard, but AJ Styles was the star of the match. We saw somethings from him we have NEVER seen before, and for somebody like AJ to do that is pretty amazing. But Christian & Booker did really well too, with Booker giving us his best match in TNA so far.
Jarrett/Angle = Great match. MOTN IMO. I think Jarrett really surprised people. He looked like he hasn't missed a beat, and looked just as good as he ever has. And putting him in there with Angle just made for a great match. Foley added a little bit of fun to it too. This was a very exciting and great match up.
Joe/Sting = Intense main event and yet another very good match. The brawl through the crowd was awesome (That missle dropkick off the stands from Joe was amazing) And I'll say what I said last year at BFG: Sting is an F'n warrior. The guy is amazing. They worked the match like it was face vs. face, but Joe acted a bit more heelish, probably because the crowd was clearly on Sting's side. I've already talked about the ending, and all I'll say is that I didn't have a problem with it. It'll be interesting to see what heppens on Impact. Great match to close with.
Overall, I thought BFG was a great show. Once again, TNA delivered a great show with great matches from top to bottom. The true stand out matches this year were Steel Asylum, Monster's Ball, AJ/Booker/Cage, Sting/Joe & my favorite Angle/Jarrett. The X Title & KO Title matches were pretty solid too, while the Bimbo Brawl was unoffensive filler. And like I said, I really enjoyed the backstage segments with Foley. Very well put together show and TNA's best of 2008.
