Re: Official Sacrifice Discussion Thread
I don't really have many comments on this, mainly because nothing too good and nothing too bad happened.
My only comment, is that the booking in the women's match was executed to perfection...
Women's hair matches are always emotional affairs - the crowd always ends up turning on the bookers, but it did EXACTLY what it was supposed to do.
Nikki got insanely over, the pornstars got huge heat, and now you have a very good non-title feud to go on with.
However, Tenay and West HAVE to learn to keep quiet for emotional moments...we're not stupid, we don't need play-by-play for everything and especially not emotions.
That being said, Tenay doing play-by-play for the hair cutting - "That's the key here, you've gotta use those scissors before you can use the shears" - was one of the funniest things i've ever heard...

I agree with that. I remember back at Victory Road 2004 when they talked throughout the Piper's Pit segment and it was distracting. They can drop a comment in every now and then, but they should take a note from JR and King and stay mostly quiet during non wrestling segments.

It was hilarious when Tenay said that thing during the hair cutting segment, I was like no way is Tenay is about to say this and then he did. Funny ass stuff.

Re: Official Sacrifice Discussion Thread
Just got done watching the PPV.
- Opening up the PPV with the announcement that Angle has been pulled out of the main event was a shocking way to open the show. It was a shame that it happened though. That opening video for the PPV was pretty kick ass and made me excited for the main event that unfortunately could not happen. Showing all three wrestlers come to the show was a nice thing to open with. And the bit with Nash coming out with Steiner was interesting.
Match 1 – Team 3D vs. “The Icon” Sting & “Tennessee Cowboy” James Storm: Deuces Wild Tag Team Tournament Quarter Finals Match
As I expected they dedicated the entire first hour of the show to the first round of the tournament, which was the best way to go. I really enjoyed this match up, mainly because of the way they handled the Sting/Storm partnership. Storm acted like a dick, as expected, and Sting made him pay for it. Watching Sting interact with Team 3D was pretty cool too.
Winners – Team 3D via Pinfall
- Frank Trigg interview: I hope they have him analyze main events more often. I remember back in the old days when guys at the booth would acknowledge when a wrestler would drop weight or bulk up or have great cardio or whatever. It’s rarely ever done today, so to have Trigg do it was pretty cool.
Match 2 – “The Instant Classic” Christian Cage & “The War Machine” Rhino vs. Booker T & Robert Roode: Deuces Wild Tag Team Tournament Quarter Finals Match
With Booker & Roode teamed up that meant that three of the four made up teams were two enemies paired up. That kind of spoils the “random” nature of the thing, but this one was great because this was one of the most intense rivalries in TNA. It was perfect to have Roode & Booker start fighting before the match even started. Roode & Booker’s tension was handled differently from Sting/Storm where in this match, Roode refused to tag in Booker in order to both one up him and piss off the crowd, which was well done. All four guys did their parts in this match and it ended up pretty well. The Booker heel turn after the match was a little out of leftfield, but I think it has potential to work well. Most notably, it can give Samoa Joe a big opponent for one of the upcoming PPVs.
Winners – Rhino & Christian Cage via Pinfall
- Nash/Steiner segment – This is obviously going to lead to Nash/Joe at some point. It is also nice to see Rick Steiner involved.
Match 3 – The Latin American Xchange w/Hector Guerrero & Salinas vs. Kip James & Matt Morgan: Deuces Wild Tag Team Tournament Quarter Finals Match
I wish Kip would use his entrance music from when he was The Outlaw. That music was actually kind of cool. On paper, this is definitely the least interesting of the three first round matches, we got a nice look into what Matt Morgan can do. And of courses LAX is always great. They also found a different way to handle the enemy partners situation where they actually tried to work well, but a miscommunication caused the downfall. This match was ok.
Winners – LAX via Pinfall
- I loved the backstage bit with Kurt and AJ. I really want to see that match.
Match 4 – “The Prince of Phenomenal” AJ Styles & Super Eric vs. Awesome Kong w/Raisha Saeed & BG James: Deuces Wild Tag Tournament Quarter Finals Match
Well this is one of the matches that caused some intrigue for this PPV as Awesome Kong makes her debut against the men. And who better to showcase her with than AJ Styles? I really enjoyed their exchange. It showed that Kong isn’t going to toss the men around like she does the Knockouts, but she can definitely hang with them. The finish was botched with AJ slipping on the rope, but he handled it perfectly as he sold the fall and didn’t try to repeat the spot. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen guys mess up a spot and then try to repeat it immediately and have a dumbfounded look on their face the whole time. It sucks royally. BG and AJ came up with a finish on the fly (a small package) Not the best, but better than most of what I see people do. Anyways, this match was entertaining, and Kong looked good in there.
Winners – AJ Styles & Super Eric via Pinfall
- Overall, the first round of the tourney was fun. All the matches provided something fun. It is interesting that none of the Four “Egotistical 8” teams advanced.
- Rick Steiner promo: Funny as hell!
- Next up is the Terrordome. But before that, Cornette announced that the winner would not only be the Number One Contender for the X Title, but would also take Kurt Angle’s spot in the main event. That is defiantly awesome. The Terrordome itself looks cool, but I think they should paint it black. The red looks a little distracting.
Match 5 – Curry Man vs. “Guru” Sonjay Dutt vs. Consequences Creed vs. Shark Boy vs. Jimmy Rave vs. Kaz vs. Chris Sabin vs. Alex Shelley vs. Johnny Devine vs. “Black Machismo” Jay Lethal: 1st Ever Terrordome Match for Number One Contendership to X Title and World Title in Sacrifice Main Event
Why has Johnny Devine stolen Alex Shelley’s old Paparazzi Gimmick? Shelley did it better. That’s all I’m going to say. I like how they played up that the Guns had an advantage since they were the only full tag team in the match. Anyways, this was a fun match that was filled with some really cool spots (The Tower of Doom was really well done) I think the match would have been better had it been built around a feud and if there were fewer guys, but overall it was great X Division action and a wild spotfest which is pretty much what everyone expected. And TNA tried to make it seem really important by putting the winner in the main event. And Kaz put forth a hell of an effort just to get out of the thing. Now as a kid, I played on a lot of jungle jims, but there would be no way in hell I could climb out of that thing. Anyways, this was a pretty cool match and I think TNA can do better things with it in the future. They could even use it as an annual event for one of their PPVs. It would be pretty exclusive to the X Division (and some tag teams), which is fine.
Winner – Kaz via Escape
- Great promo from Joe. The Nash thing could be pretty good for Joe.
Match 6 – Team 3D vs. “The Instant Classic” Christian Cage & “The War Machine” Rhino: Deuces Wild Tournament Semi Finals Match
Given the way they built the tourney on Impact, it was no surprise that this match took place. I liked that they had Rhino & Christian come into this match selling the chair shots that Booker gave them. Having an injured babyface go to the second round in a tournament is normally a good way to build sympathy. This match was solid and I think that the right team went over, as you always need a heel in the finals. Johnny Devine’s interference was nice as they haven’t been together in a while and its nice to see that they are still partners.
Winners – Team 3D via Pinfall
- Nash promo was good. I really hope they go somewhere good with the Nash/Joe thing as the intensity is certainly there.
Match 7 – “The Prince of Phenomenal” AJ Styles & Super Eric vs. The Latin American Xchange w/Hector Guerrero & Salinas: Deuces Wild Tag Team Tournament Semi Finals Match
AJ probably hurt himself for real when he had that crash landing in the previous match, but it was good to see him feeling the effects of it as the endurance factor is supposed to be an important part of any one night tournament. There was some great action in this one, mostly involving AJ. It was a good match, but oddly the pin was botched as AJ’s shoulder was clearly up. It’s odd that both of AJ’s matches had botched finishes, but oh well. I was very happy that LAX won.
Winners – LAX via Pinfall
- Interview with Joe’s kin – This was well kind of boring.
Match 8 – Gail Kim vs. ODB vs. “The Voodoo Queen” Roxxi Laveux vs. Traci Brooks vs. Velvet Sky vs. Angelina Love vs. Rhaka Khan vs. Christy Hemme vs. “The Pride of Tennessee” Jackie Moore vs. Salinas: Knockouts Makeover Battle Royal & Ladder Match
The Battle Royal portion was pretty run of the mill. Nothing too special happened. The immunity match from Impact was a better display of multi participants, but that part of the match was short. Did anyone catch Traci Brooks’ self elimination? Now the ladder match portion between Roxxi and Gail was really good. Those two girls broke another barrier for women’s wrestling by being able to do well in a Ladder Match. Interestingly, these two wrestlers also finished the first ever TNA Women’s Title Match way back at Bound for Glory.
The situation after the match is one that is going to be talked about for a while. Here’s my take: OK, the situation made Roxxi a major babyface as the fans didn’t want her to get shaved, and it got Love and Sky over big as heels. The problem is that those fans didn’t realize that they were supposed to not like it. It’s a case of the “smart marks” being too smart for their own good. OK, they don’t like Roxxi getting shaved so they chant “Fire Russo!” when they should be wanting to lynch Love and Sky. Oh well.
Winner – Gail Kim
- Kevin Nash/Samoa Joe segment – They are clearly doing Nash vs. Joe at some point. Good segment.
Match 9 – The Latin American Xchange w/Hector Guerrero & Salinas vs. Team 3D w/Johnny Devine: Deuces Wild Tag Team Tournament Finals
Oh man this was a feud that I was just sick of last year. I think these two teams wrestled each other at least 80 times within a 3 month period. But despite that, I think these were the two right teams to end it with. Team 3D is the biggest heel team in the company and LAX is just the best damn team in wrestling today, so it made sense. It was a really good match up, clearly the best of the tourney. I loved how they involved Hector too. That table spot was great. LAX going over was a major treat from this PPV. It was definitely long overdue.
Oh and what was it that Konnan said? TNA will never push LAX because they’re racist. Yeah sure K-Dawg. I have a better assessment. You left, and LAX is still great.
Winners – New TNA Tag Team Champions LAX via Pinfall
- So Eric Young is going to go in search of Elvis? I’m reminded of Hank Hill’s comments towards his son Bobby: “That boy ain’t right”
Main Event – “The Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe (c) vs. “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner w/Petey Williams & Rhaka Khan vs. Kaz: TNA World Championship Triple Threat Match
They did for this match what they did for the Lockdown main event with video packages and jacked up entrances. I would actually like to see them do this for at least one match at every PPV. It doesn’t always have to be a World Title Match, but just a big one for the PPV. I also liked Frank Trigg on commentary again.
And what a threesome this is? It was really fun watching this match because two of the guys have very rarely been in the World title picture for TNA. (on a side note, Kaz has had more title shorts in TNA than Steiner) And they were going up against a brand new champion, so it was really a breath of fresh air watching this match. And hopefully Steiner has silenced some of his critics. After watching this match, are any of you Steiner-haters going to tell me that he sucks? I love watching him work with X Division guys like Kaz. He meshes very well with them. Kaz did really well too. He took a beating in there. And Joe of course was great as always. I wouldn’t say this was a MOTY candidate, but it was still a really fun main event, and they did a really good job considering Angle had to be pulled.
Winner – Samoa Joe via Pinfall
Sacrifice overall was a really fun show. I enjoyed the Deuces Wild Tournament, especially since LAX was victorious. The Terrordome, despite the lackluster way in which it was introduced, was pretty cool.. The Knockouts broke another barrier with a Ladder Match, and the main event was really fun. It wasn’t a phenomenal PPV, but was pretty entertaining.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed that Kaz won, but there wasn't really anyone else in the match that I would've been happy with anyways in the main event. I would've been satisfied with Sabin or Shelley though.

Re: Official Sacrifice Discussion Thread
TNA, please change things about the announcing team, editing and production (mostly in Impact). It's very annoying all those editing (Impact viewing random audience after the break) and the "to the back" after the match, where's the replay? And please tell Tenay and DW to shut up once in awhile especially when a promo is going on.

Re: Official Sacrifice Discussion Thread
TNA Sacrafice 2008
Team 3D vs. Sting & Storm - *3/4
Cage/Rhyno vs. Booker/Roode - **1/4
LAX vs. Gunne/Morgan - *1/2
AJ/Eric vs. Kong/Roadogg - **
Terrordome - ***
Team 3D vs. Cage/Rhyno - **1/2
AJ/Eric vs. LAX - *1/4
Knockouts Match - *1/2
LAX vs. Team 3D - **1/4
Samoa Joe vs. Scott Steiner vs. Kaz - **1/2
Overall Thoughts - Mediocre PPV. This was without doubt one of the worst PPV's I have seen in a very long time. The tag tournament was really poor and provided poor-average matches, althought I am glad LAX are the champs. I was rather disgusted with the Knockouts situation until the ladder part which gave this any sort of credibility. The aftermath of the match was complete bollocks mind. I think the Terrordome match was a fun spot fest but really didn't provide anything out of the ordinary much like the X division match at Lockdown. The booking behind the main event was rather laughable with Kaz being placed into the match. I don't see why they didn't just have it Joe/Steiner. The match was not fit to main event a PPV. The only positives I can take out of the PPV is LAX being tag champs, a decent spot fest and Joe still being Champ. No one on one matches is rather obsurd tbh.
Overall Rating - **1/2

Re: Official Sacrifice Discussion Thread
**1/2 for the main event is extremely harsh IMO, I thought it was more like ***3/4. Also LAX/Team 3D was ***1/2 and the Knockouts Match was ***1/4.(For the bumping in the ladder match)

Re: Official Sacrifice Discussion Thread
In your opinion it maybe was. I thought the main event was really badly booked and I spent the whole match wondering why is Kaz here and when is Joe going to win.
LAX/Dudley was nowhere near the *** mark for me. The whole deal with the Knockouts match was just plain embarrasing. A bunch of average tag matches, one average spot fest, a disgraceful womens match and a stupid main event.
I have been nothing but impressed with TNA since I have been watching but last night was just brutal.
