Re: Lockdown Discussion Thread
TNA Lockdown 2008
X-Scape Match - ***1/4
Queen of the Cage - *1/2
BG James vs. Kip James - **
Cuffed in a Cage - N/A
Gail Kim/ODB vs. Kong/Saeed - **1/2
Booker T/Sharmell vs. Robert Rude/Banks - *3/4
Lethal Lockdown - ***3/4-****
Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe - ****1/2
Overall Thoughts - The PPV was all about the main events and it really showed. We opened the show with a really fun match but the next 5 matches which took up half of the show were really not that good. Lethal Lockdown was a very good match with 2 awesome spots but the ending of a Gore made no sence to me. Onto the main event, TBH it is one of the best matches I've seen, really great match and my MOTY so far. Overall a good show but only because of the two main events and a solid opener. BTW the cuffed in a cage match was one of the worst matches I have ever seen.
Overall Rating - ***1/4

I also thoroughly enjoyed the main event. Having been there in person and fairly close to the cage I can tell you that those kicks from Joe were stiff as hell.
Lethal Lockdown was MOTN though. That was just sick. It's crazy that a 28 min match went by that quickly but it's because there was never a dull moment.

I just re-watched Lethal Lockdown and Joe/Angle on the comp, I must say, I liked it more in person. The matches were equally good, obviously, but being in the crowd gave watching it such a better atmosphere.
With the exception of TNA's oh-so amazing commentary team of course. I love Frank Trigg's monotone "ooooooh!"s he throws out whenever Joe lands a move on Angle. I'll PM you the links to the videos if you'd like.

I don't mean N/A as in DUD. Ummm take Undertaker/Batista/Edge match I'd put N/A for that as I really can't rate it.
I really did hate the Cuffed match though. I was literally that embarrased by it that I nearly stopped watching the PPV.

Re: Lockdown Discussion Thread
So how would guys rank this up against the previous Lockdowns?
I think 2006 was the best. Christian vs. Abyss and Lethal Lockdown were both simply amazing while the X Division pretty much ruled the undercard (Daniels/Senshi, Sabu/Joe for the X Title, Xscape, World X Cup Six Man Tag. And the Flag Match was fun too) Only thing that sucked was the Arm Wrestling Match (Ugh)
So obviously I don't see 2008 as being as good as that show, but I feel that overall it was better than last year's. While last year's Lockdown had some really good matches (Lethal Lockdown was awesome & Xscape, Daniels vs. Lynn, Jackie vs. Gail, & Petey/Roode ranged from good to very very good) But nothing in 2008 was anywhere near as bad as the disasterous Electrified Cage or Blindfold Matches. Those weren't the wrestlers' faults, but they were still pretty bad. 2007's Lockdown was still a pretty good PPV overall, and every Lockdown seems to have one terrible match, but those two were pretty glaringly obvious.
Now as for the 1st Lockdown, I don't think 2008's version quit elived up it. The first Lockdown had some really really good matches in Hardy/Raven, AMW/Team Canada, Daniels/Skipper, and heck even Rhodes vs. Roode was surprisingly good. The only matches I didn't really care for was Xscape, mainly because it had absolutely no psychology at all whatsoever. I mean I know these X Matches normally don't, but in this match the guys were breaking up each others pins left and right which made absolutely no sense because it was an elimination match. And Lethal Lockdown was HORRIBLE. I can't believe that its one of my favorite match types in TNA after watching it. But it was all made right with AJ vs. Abyss which is arguably the match that put Lockdown on the map. A very good PPV and somewhat legendary for obvious reasons.
So I'd rank them 2006, 2005, 2008, 2007 although there isn't that much seperation among them.

Re: Lockdown Discussion Thread
I was kinda disappointed with everything but the main events.
X Scape match
Had some great spots, Curry man from the cage, Devine's SSP, but was just really weirdly booked. Why have Devine as the last man? Why have him there at all i would have thought he'd had his run at the title for the while? Also all this teasing of a Dutt/Lethal feud is lasting way too long and wont be exciting when it happens at this rate. The ending of the match was very weak, which was a running theme of the night.
Queen of the Cage
Pretty stupid concept but worked out ok. Disappointing not to see more of Rocka Khan. Was glad Roxxi won it, her vs Kong would be good. One of the few matches to end with a non roll up pin fall.
Bg vs Kip
I'll admit this match did better than I thought it would, but the style of the match just didn't suit the hatred there was supposed to be. If two guys hate each other and are in the brutalist PPV of the year I expect blood and sick spots and not ending with a roll up ffs! Incredibly weak ending and then a predictable clothesline by Kip meaning we probably aren't done with this shit.
Cuffed in the cage
Match turned out ok but was retarded in their choice of final teams. Spots like Kaz and Rellik side by side to cuff Steiner when they should hate each other was stupid. Cuffing MCMG and LAX so early was stupid. Using so much great talent just to put over Eric Young in a comedy gimmick really stupid. Most annoying thing about the MCMG punishment for not blading is now there's almost no blading on TNA.
Kong/Saheed vs ODB/Kim
Was probably the best match outside of the main events. Melissa was great and it was good to see her involved so much. Sick hurricanrana from the top by Kim. Kong continues to look on top of the division but ODB and Kim keep momentum.
Booker T/Sharmel vs Roode/Payton
I really enjoyed the echange between Booker and Roode, would have been an ace singles match. But they ruin it with Banks and Sharmel ending it with another lmae roll up finish. Sharmel shouldn't be wreslting and especially not getting pin falls over rain. match was let down by the women element and this feud is getting stale.
Lethal Lockdown
Thought this match was great. Cage did well and the AJ swerve got the match off to a good start. Loved West's talk about Cage's great leadership when last year it was the exact opposite. The ladder spot was good but i was hoping for a Spiral tap through the table. I wanted Matt Morgan to do more powerhouse stuff rather than just hit people and one chokeslam, incidentaly AJ's reversal of a chokeslam was crazy. The ending was a bit abrupt but glad to see a possible Rhino push.
Angle vs Joe
Was a great match, easily MOTN. The opening dragged on a little for my liking but the whole match was spectacular. Was great to see Joe win the title after such an intense technical match. The many submission reversals was a great spot and was glad to see it end with a nice non realistic muscle buster.
The main events made up for the lack luster under card.

Re: Lockdown Discussion Thread
3 of the first 4 matches were gimmicks (in an all cage ppv, ffs!) and the other was kip v bg,which had about as much heat as a snowball. and did you hear road dogg in his promo? he called himself "D to the O to the double". i call him a waste of roster space. the womens tag was great. gail kim really impressed me,and booker v roode in a singles would've been great, but roode instead, had to sell to sharmell. for shame, russo
