- Well this disc starts out in a big way. I feel like the first 3 matches kinda define TNA and are standard viewing for anyone who's a fan, so I'm sure we've all seen them. XXX/AMW is a classic loaded with blood and crazy spots, AJ/Abyss is essentially the same with AJ taking a huge amount of punishment and pulling off the big win, but Christian/Abyss is the one that took me by surprise. Seen it before but REALLY enjoyed it this time around. It's essentially structured the same as the AJ match, in fact the spot with the ref bump and the sunset flip into the tacs is EXACTLY the same, but I felt like this one had a better comeback from Christian and some seriously close & believable nearfalls. Really awesome stuff.

- Full Metal Mayhem matches fuckin sucked. Hardy/Abyss is awful as we all know & Cage/Abyss is a huge letdown coming off their Lockdown classic. There's probably two spots that came off well & were surprising, everything else took a while to set up and looked poor. The ending was pretty predictable as well with no drama whatsoever down the stretch. Cool spot with Mitchell though.

- Monster's Ball matches are a ton of fun. The '05 edition is pure insanity for 12 minutes. Huge performances from Rhino & Sabu, plus what's probably the 2nd best spot in company history. The '06 edition has some awesome moments but was never able to maintain steam all the way through due to Raven being pretty awful & Roberts bein a pretty awkward ref. I think Runt disappeared completely for the last 5 minutes, too.

- Oh man, Christian/Kaz is fantastic. Sort of a forgotten match when you think about the other big matches from '07, but this is right up there with the rest (KOTM & Texas Death Match). Really brutal stuff with some big time spots and a great moment for Kaz. Christian looked like hell with that cut over his eye.

Overall Set Score: 9.5/10

- Can't say enough good things about this release. One of the smartest things TNA has ever done, give us a collection of all their best gimmick matches. The only thing that could've made it better was to combine Ladder matches & Full Metal Mayhem, drop Hardy/Abyss, and throw in another ladder match. Maybe 3D/Guns & Lethal or a Styles/Kaz match they showed clips from. Huge thumbs up for this regardless. I have 8 matches at ****+. Incredible.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

Yep, Christian vs Abyss Full Metal Mayhem was weak when compared to their previous encounter at Lockdown. Although, I am a touch surprised you thought so highly of Christian/Abyss Steel Cage after seeing Styles/Abyss in the Cage. So many moments were recycled from the previous match into the 2006 affair.

Triple X vs America's Most Wanted - *****.

Best match in TNA history. Nothing beats it for me.

Yeah, Abyss/Cage is really good, but Abyss/AJ is a masterpiece.

Certainly.

Styles always brought out the best in Abyss. Fantastic chemistry among the two.

Used to have XXX/AMW at **** 3/4, but idk, guess it kinda lost its luster after seeing it 3 or 4 times now. The Abyss cage matches are on the same level for me I'd say, ya know, since they're basically the same match. Styles takes a lot more punishment and there's more spots but the Christian match seemed to be put together better, the sunset flip looked better, and fuck me at that blackhole slam nearfall. I'm probably in the minority, but whatevs.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

Maybe it's a bit of a personal gripe for myself. I'm the same way with TLC II from WM 17 after a few of those spots were recycled from the original bout at Summerslam. Doesn't hinder any love. Only part of me can't deem it better than the prior thanks to it, you know? Idk. Possible it's weird. Nothing major at the end of the day - they're both great. (the Abyss cage matches)

Pretty fun little match, wish it happened on Impact.

Shepard, Storm and Park together would great. Park is just great all around.

You know you remember this.

Oh right forgot about that. Going to watch soon.

Seemed a tad bit pointless when the end result was given to us last week on Impact.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

NWA-TNA Weekly PPV - July 14, 2004

AJ Styles vs. Michael Shane - ***

Abyss & Alex Shelley vs. Sabu & Sonjay Dutt - ** 1/4

8-Man Tag Team Match
Team Canada (Petey Williams, Eric Young, Bobby Roode, & Johnny Devine) vs. Triple X, Chris Sabin, & Amazing Red - ** 3/4

10-Man Tag Team Guitar On A Pole Match
Jeff Jarrett, Ken Shamrock, & The Elite Guard vs. 3 Live Kru, Dusty Rhodes, & Larry Zbyszko - DUD

AJ Styles vs. Frankie Kazarian - ***

Double Ladder Match
The Naturals vs. America's Most Wanted - *** 1/4

- So the big storyline coming into this show was that basically Shane & Kazarian are jealous of AJ's success, so they think he should be kicked out of the x division. AJ says he can beat them both in one night. The stipulation in both of their matches were that if Shane and/or Kazarian won, they'd get X Division Title shots. If AJ won, the losing guy would be kicked out of the X division. Interesting enough. Now onto the opener. Talk about killing some momentum. AJ & Shane were having a really well structured, enjoyable match. Shane was scouting all of AJ's signature stuff and staying on the offensive with high impact moves, and right when AJ starts to make a comeback, he hits the flip dive to the outside and "injures" his knee on the barricade. He hit his leg on it but he was completely protected by boots and pads, yet Tenay sells THE FUCK out of it. You know, he's all like "OH MY GOD! OH GOD..." All the trainers, Jerry Lynn, & Vince Russo come out and check on him, and they award the match to Michael Shane via forfeit. I mean, it's somewhat smart booking and I can understand why they'd do it, but it still ruined the flow big time.

- Sabu & Raven were feuding (I guess?) at the time, idk. They showed a video package for some reason but none of it made sense to me. Raven keeps yelling The Sheik is dead and attacks Sonjay Dutt while Sabu refuses to hit him & just keeps doing his pose. The actual tag match on this show is fun if you turn your brain off and watch the action, cause they should've been DQed about 4 times. Still a couple awesome spots, it's all about Alex fuckin Shelley people.

- 8 man tag had soooooo much potential, but they decided to just have one of those matches where they isolate one guy for a while, then everyone runs in and hits a signature move & does a bunch of dives to the outside. Not saying that's a bad thing, it's definitely a fun match, but it could've been excellent. Double pin for the finish was confusing more than anything, and once again hurt the flow of a match.

- Are you serious? A 10 MAN guitar on a pole match, ridiculous. No reason for you to watch this unless you wanna see 4 guys trying to boost a fat old guy to the top rope while he stands there, shrugs his shoulders, and points up. Best part of the whole thing comes outta nowhere. In the middle of the action, Shamrock goes over to the announcer's table and yells "I should be champ!" So random. Oh and btw for anyone curious, The Elite Guard comprises of Hernandez, Onyx, & Chad Collyer.

- AJ/Kazarian was (again) a totally fine match but the flow was destroyed by some ridiculous overbooking for the finish. AJ's knee was heavily taped but Kazarian NEVER went after it and I have no idea why. Took ass tons of interference for AJ to actually be pinned.

- Here's the backstory to the main event. The week prior, The Naturals won the tag straps by beating AMW in cheating fashion, then stole their ring gear. So hanging at the top of the ladder was a bag full of AMW's ring gear and a contract for a Tag Title match at next week's ppv. If AMW lost, they'd be out of title contention. Pretty good match, only complaint was that the middle portion was really slow and just kind of 'there.' Couple nice, out of nowhere spots & they managed to make into more of a TLC match, which is always welcome.
