I know you were talking about Meltzer's flakes. The thing is: Joe vs. Anderson was better or at least equal to Devon vs. Park. The Joseph thing might have been much more entertaining, but the only decent in-ring action of Anderson/Joe still smashed it concerning the wrestling. It's just the hate for Anderson that makes all of you underrate the match and the love for everything Park does that makes you overrate his stuff on the other hand.

Austin Aries v Bully Ray - Sacrifice (5/13/12)
This was much more my speed and a legit great match. Easy to get into for someone who doesn't watch TNA (like myself) because of the clear gutsy babyface v powerful dickhead heel dynamic and the good in-ring character work from both guys. Beginning of the match is really good with Aries showing he's not gonna back down. Ray selling his balls and spitting at Aries earned my approval early on. The big boot that killed Aries was a sweet spot to transition into Bully's badass control period. Trash-talk, high impact back work and those awesome chops, I'm always gonna be a fan. Ray raking the eyes instead of nailing another chop when Aries got fired up was dickishly great. Brainbuster nearfall was great too. Thought it could've been over after the interference. Good example of an interference/distraction being used well as the catalyst for a babyface comeback. All in all this is quite super from bell to bell, I'd pimp it.

Yeah, right... And him being a useless sack of crap has nothing to do with it?

Against All Odds 2006-NWA World Heavyweight Championship: Christian Cage vs Jeff Jarrett (c) ☆★☆
Not a bad match, a little slow though. They probably could have worked on their chemistry a little more but it wasn't bad. I liked the top rope Stroke from Jarrett and the finishing sequence with the reversals into the Unprettier/Killswitch.

Agreed. Don't know what goes on in his mind nowadays. He legit loves the Angle vs Hardy No Surrender & Angle vs Jarrett Lockdown matches so yeah...

Good match but nothing to write home about. I'm sure I would've appreciated it more if it wasn't for the shitty atmosphere. Was this a bad crowd or are TNA events always like this? Best part of the match for me was Aries' missed suicide dive leading to Roode's control segment then coming full circle with Aries hitting the dive as the pivotal spot in his comeback. The finishing stretch had its moments but like the whole match was hindered by the crowd. No real complaints from an execution standpoint. The psychology was fine too from what I remember, it just didn't engage me all that much.
|
I actually remembered the crowd being a bit better than usual for the match. Or maybe it was only until the end that they really reacted. Mike Tenay showed life. I'm certain that helped draw me more into the bout. But long story short, yeah, the atmosphere for most TNA matches are usually shit. Even for some of the good years they are. It's the only negative about the company that seems to stand over the years. Not to say they can't create magic atmospheres, only it's more of a rarity tbhayley. I felt the match accomplished a lot regardless. I bought into all aspects. A great match by two great workers. It doesn't top Bully vs Aries for me however...

Glad you dug this. It's brilliant. On soooo many levels. What you said and what I've said on it is plenty. It's gold - TNA MOTY.

Agreed with the thoughts and the rating. The moment when Christian wins is the real payoff.

Samoa Joe vs Chris Sabin (TNA X Division Championship) - No Surrender 2005
Watching matches like this makes me sad seeing what the X division used to mean to TNA. Fantastic match with great psychology putting over Joe as the submission expert and Sabin as the never say die babyface. Standout moment for me was the transitions of Joe to different submissions to block off Sabin getting to the ropes. Fuck Sabin hits a mean drop kick while Joe is running at him , really summed up this his intensity clash between the two. Overaljust an awesome contest and a bit of an under viewed gem imo. ****

That powerbomb by Sabin on Joe. <3 One of my favorite TNA PPVs that I have gotten to attend.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Still the best TNA PPV they've ever produced if you ask me. Love it.
