Im new to TNA (only seen a few bits and bobs) the stupid gimmicks put me off, but some sheer quality shines through imo e.g. during the Team Angle Vs Team Cage match (don't know when that was).

Like Taroostyles said, the main reason to pick up D-X07 is the phenomenal Joe vs. Cage title match, and there are some other really good matches sprinkled in as well. Senshi vs. Starr, Sabin vs. Lynn, The Double Bullrope match, Team 3D vs. LAX, and AJ/Rhino: Elevation X all delivered on some level for different reasons. The only matches that kind of floundered were Steiner vs. Angle which was really off to me; Sting vs. Abyss which was not the wrestlers faults, but rather the sillyness of the gimmick; and VKM vs. The Heart Throbs which may have been the worst match for TNA in 2007. But the good far outweigh the bad with this show.
Team Angle vs. Team Cage took place at Lockdown 2007, which overall was a solid show, but was hurt by two really really REALLY bad matches. But the rest of the card was pretty good, and like you said, Lehtal Lockdown was quality, so if you want that on DVD, by all means get Lockdown 2007.
But as far as a better show, for 2007 I would recommend Sacrifice, Slammiversary, No Surrender, and Bound for Glory.
Sacrifice was a really stacked card from top to bottom with great wrestling throughout. The match of the night is Harris vs. Storm in a Texas Deathmatch. The second best was the opening three way between Sabin, Sonjay, & Lethal for the X Title, while Roode vs. Jarrett, AJ vs. Joe, and Sting vs. Angle vs. Christian for the World title were all really good as well. Most everything else was pretty solid (X 4 Way, Tag Team Title 3 Way, Daniels vs. Rhino). The only match that sucked was Kip vs. The Basham Brothers in a Handicap match, but it was just a filler. Sacrifice has never been one of the bigger shows for TNA, so no big angles ended or anything, but wrestling wise, this show is pretty stacked.
Slammiversary was one of the most fun PPVs TNA put on last year. I've heard people knock it because, aside from the main event, none of the matches were that long. Well, most of the matches were good, the crowd was hot, and all around it was just a really fun and entertaining show. I thought Young & Roode almost stole the show with their match (most disagree with me, but oh well) Rhino/Senshi vs. LAX, Lethal vs. Sabin, Abyss vs. Tomko, and Sting vs. Daniels were all pretty good matches. I felt Sting/Daniels is the only match that suffered due to lack of time, but they did the best they could with the time they got. The Tag Title Match was supposed to be The Steiners vs. Team 3D, but with Scott injured, we got Road Warrior Animal as a replacement, and that was cool to see. ANd then of course, The King of the Mountain match was awesome. To me, it is definately the best KOTM TNA has done. I also recommend picking up this DVD because a bonus feature is the Harris/Storm KOTM Qualifying match which rivals their match from Sacrifice.
No Surrender was a great show because of the theme of Angle's three title defenses. That gave the show a nice theme and a selling point, and it led to some pretty damn good things. Sting/Angle vs. Team Pacman was ok, but purely story driven as it set up Sting/Angle for BFG. His other two title defenses were much better as he pretty much stole the show with Jay Lethal for the X Title and had a really good main event with Abyss for the World Title to close the show. Other matches to look out for here are the Tag Team Gauntlet, Kaz vs. Robert Roode, Rhino vs. James Storm, & yet another awesome Christian vs. Joe match up. All of those matches were pretty damn good, and I actually thought Joe/Christian may have been MOTN. The weakest match was Harris vs. Black Reign. It was decent, but it was also obvious that they weren't going to do anything with Harris which still makes me mad, but oh well.
And of course Bound for Glory 2007 was the best PPV of the year. Sting vs. Angle, Joe vs. Christian III, Daniels vs. Lethal, LAX vs. XXX: Ultimate X, & Steiners vs. Team 3D: Tables were not just good matches, but GREAT matches. This was one of the most stacked shows I had seen in a long while, and all of those matches were just awesome. MOTN goes to either Sting/Angle or Joe/Christian. The rest of the card turned out really well too. Monster's Ball & Fight for the Right were entertaining, while the Women's Gauntlet proved to be historic as it was the birth of TNA's women's division, and for that its special. Even the tag title match of AJ/Tomko vs. Team Pacman, which should have sucked, turned out really well. IMO, there was nothing bad on this show save for a few dumb backstage segments involving Nash, Sting, & The Angles. Well, its not that they were bad. There were just too many of them. But for the most part, Bound for Glory was pretty amazing, and any TNA fan should definately check it out!
