TNA Slammiversary 2008 Review

1. X Division Champion Petey Williams vs Kaz
For the first time in two months, the X division gets a regular match instead of some type of caged cluster. They didn't do anything heavily fast paced or "spotty" like the typical X division match but concidering how each person is not at 100% going into this (Kaz's arm & Petey's eye), this was a good solid encounter between the two that wasn't the sterotypical "X division spotfest" but the moment to look out for was Kaz being busted open & the aftermath when The Monster Abyss returned & got his hands on everyone in the ring...including Rhaka Khan.

Rating: ***

2. Gail Kim, O.D.B., Roxxi vs Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, Moose
Just like how the X division match was the first time in two months where they didn't just just cram everyone in the division into one match, the same goes for the knockouts here & you get the same result. A solid match that was fun to watch with some nice storytelling & selling by The Beautiful People & Moose (again, please find better names for these girls) by working on Kim's injured knee throughout the match.

Rating: **

3. TNA Tag Team Champions L.A.X. vs Team 3D
Instead of this match being a brawling style that you have seen time & time again from their matches in the past, this was more of a traditional tag team match that went back & forth between both teams with old school storytelling like Team 3D double teaming & cutting off the ring building towards Homicide to get the hot tag. Another solid encounter.

Rating: ***

4. Womens Champion Awesome Kong's Open Challenge
This is a gimmick similar to how Kurt Angle used to do his gold medal challenge back in WWE where a "random fan" is picked, gets a match against Kong, and if the fan wins...she gets $25,000. Two girls were picked from the audience & Kong basically squashed them both & afterwards, did the same to Eric Young's special guest...Elvis. Unless your a heavy fan of Kong being a female version of "WCW's Vader" & killing people in the ring, skip this.

Rating: 1/2*

The Jay Lethal/So Cal Val Wedding
Holy SummerSlam '91 Batman! Seriously, this entire storyline has been done very similar to the Randy/Liz storyline from the proposal, "Oh Yeah!" acceptance by Val, and even Lethal dressing in the same type of outfit Savage did at the SummerSlam wedding. However, anyone who watched TNA over the past couple of months (including those who edit the video packages together) knew what was coming when the best man Sonjay Dutt stopped the wedding & turned heel on Lethal before getting his own beating by the groomsmen. The heel turn was great but for him to get laid out by the legends right afterwards killed it & turned this turned into a wrestlecrap segment. At least you got to see old school legends & names from the past like Kamala, Jake "The Snake" Roberts (complete with snake), Koko B. Ware, and George "The Animal" Steele who of course munched on his favorite snack...the turnbuckle.

5. Kurt Angle vs AJ Styles
This is without a doubt one of the best matches of this year as these two put on one hell of a wrestling match & their best PPV inring performance in months. They worked a great mat based match which is where Kurt is at his best & what Styles is very underrated at as well. Match of the night here & with everything that happened towards the end with Karen & Tomko afterwards, you will see a rematch & the feud will continue which nobody will mind one bit after seeing this match. Match of the night, no questions asked.

Rating: ****1/2

6. King Of The Mountain Match: TNA Champion Samoa Joe vs Christian Cage vs Rhino vs Robert Roode vs Booker T w/Kevin Nash As The Special Enforcer
Before I get started, I have to note how good each video package & interview was with each competitor throughout the entire night that are worth checking out as it heavily put over the main event & put over each person as not only wanting to win the match & become champion but also having something to prove as well.
Now for those who never seen a the King Of The Mountain match before, it's a ladder match in reverse with alot of stipulations. To win the match, you have to use the ladder hang the belt instead of using the ladder to pull it down like a normal ladder match. However before you can hang the belt, you have to qualify to do it by scoring a pinfall/submission over one of the other competitors...and the person who loses that fall goes into a penality box for 2 mins. Yeah, sounds real gimmicky but when you watch it come together...it's a real easy match to follow. Overall, this was more like a 5 way dance as oppossed to the previous KOTM matches that came off like a ladder match as there wasn't as many spots as the previous ones & there wasn't much of a story told here as everyone, with the exception of Booker T, qualified towards the end of the match before the finish happened with Samoa Joe becoming the first champion to retain his championship in the KOTM match. This match was a solid performance but didn't feel like a main event & should have switched places with the Angle/Styles match.

Rating: ***1/4

Overall Rating: 7/10
In the end, this was TNA's best PPV in a very long time as they fixed some of the problems that were making their PPV's suffer in by using the mentality of QUAILTY OVER QUANITY which they forgot when booking Lockdown & Sacrifice. Eventhough there was only 5 matches on here (6 if you want to count that Awesome Kong segment), they didn't overload the card by using the entire roster in bad pointless gimmick matches that just waste time & take time away from the other more important matches on the card which makes entire the PPV suffer as a whole. In the end, this PPV is a straight 4 star event (no being nice & rounding the rating up) as there wasn't a bad match on here & each one was given enough time. The Awesome Kong challenge & Wedding segments were the only real bad notes of this PPV so this is one event I do recommend for a viewing.

I'm bored again, so here's another top ten list!

Top Ten Best Christian Cage Matches in TNA:

10) Vs. Kaz: Fight for the Right Finals on Impact - This match is somewhat forgotten, but I thought it was an excellent encounter between an established star and somebody on the rise. Christian's cheating tactics caused his victory to be nullified and the more memorable rematch was set up for the upcoming PPV, but this was an excellent TV match, and a great set up for that rematch.

9) Vs. Kurt Angle: Final Resolution 2008 - These two kicked off the new year with a bang, and a main event that still ranks up as one of the better PPV main events that TNA has delivered this year. AJ's interference led to an Angle victory, but it was a strong effort by Cage nonetheless.

8) Vs. AJ Styles: Genesis 2006 - Its a shame these two never got to have a match with a ton of build up behind it because as this match showed, they definately have the ability to steal the show. This was a bit of a TNA dream match for me, and I was happy to see it take place. I just wish we had seen more of this pairing. Christian was victorious this time, but hopefully we get to see this match again.

7) Vs. Kurt Angle: Against All Odds 2008 - Christian got a second chance at Kurt's title after getting screwed at FR. This match had some entertainment value to it with Samoa Joe as guest enforcer and interference from Karen Angle, while Kurt & Christian delivered yet another excellent wrestling match. Christian was screwed yet again, this time by former associate Tomko.

6) Vs. Samoa Joe: Bound for Glory 2007 - Probably my favorite series of matches that TNA gave us in 2007 was Joe/Christian. They just have a very natural chesmtiry that worked and they gave us some of the best one on one matches that TNA has ever seen. Matt Morgan as enforcer ensured a stright up fair fight, and in the end, Christian would suffer his first submission defeat in TNA at the hands of Samoa Joe in what was arguably the best match on TNA's biggest show of the year.

5) Vs. Jeff Jarrett: Against All Odds 2006 - This was a great old school kind of match with a great atmosphere. The fans wanted Christian to win. Not only because they hated Jarrett, but because everybody wanted him to be a main eventer in the WWE and it didn't happen. Would it happen in TNA? Well after this grueling match, Christian Cage came out on top with a celebration that has to rank up there as one of the greatest moments in TNA history.

4) Vs. Kaz: Fight for the Right Finals Ladder Match from Genesis 2007 - Best Ladder Match in TNA history. Some of the spots they did with the ladder were just insane, and Kaz came off looking like a superstar here. The match was absolutely excellent and it was capped off by a move that shocked me: Kaz got the win and the title shot against Kurt Angle. A nice twist to end a fantastic match.

3) Vs. Rhino: Barbedwire Steel Cage Match from Impact 2006 - This has to be considered one of the most violent matches TNA has ever put on. The feud between these two had reached high levels of intensity, so this seemed like the perfect way to end it. After some amazing spots, brutality, and bloodloss, Christian scored the win, but at a price, as he escaped the cage when Rhino Gored him through the door. Christian won the match, but Rhino got the last laugh in this violent feud.

2) Vs. Abyss: Six Sides of Steel from Lockdown 2006 - Christian had been enjoying his run as World Champion until The Monster came into the picture. After a personal feud, the match delivered a violent spectacle and IMO the greatest match in Lockdown history. After thumbtacks, a top of the cage frog splash, and several death defying moves, Christian was finally able to secure the win with an Unprettier that drove the Monster face first into the tacks.

1) Vs. Samoa Joe: Destination X 2007 - By all rights, this should have been just a run of the mill World Title Match. No real build up. To me it was just Christian defending the title, and Joe getting his first World Title shot, so I knew I'd enjoy it, but I didn't expect anything epic. Boy was I wrong. This was one of the best matches in TNA history and probably the best World Title match in TNA history. Just an excellent match that showed off just how good both men are. Joe proved he could hang in a main event World title match, but Christian picked up the win in this amazing match up.

Once again, I tried to avoid Lethal Lockdown & King of the Mountain matches, and I also opted to leave off the amazing Angle vs. Rhino vs. Cage 3 Way. As great as it was, I felt like Angle & Rhino carried that match while Christian spent large parts of it outside the ring. It made sense given the storyline, but I don't see it as an amazing in ring performance for Christian as much as ANgle and especially Rhino (who knew he could go longer than 20min?!?!)

My 2008 TNA Match of the Year
Jeff Jarrett vs. Kurt Angle

One man, fueled by two years of pain, two years of agony, two years of tears, Jeff Jarrett is able to defeat Kurt Angle. And I’ve got to send this shout out to Nashville, Tennessee: Jocelyn, Jaclyn, Jaryn, this one was dedicated to you.

- Mike Tenay
This was Jarrett’s first match in 17 months. To call it emotional would be an understatement. Mick Foley is the special enforcer.

The buildup to this match was intense to say the least. Angle had become very personal in the weeks leading up to the match. Jarrett’s counter attack was clear. How do you get personal with Kurt Angle? You beat him at his own game. Mat wrestling. But, while Jarrett had the right idea, he was totally overmatched in the beginning of the match. Angle dominates on the ground and paint brushes Jarrett’s head to let him know that he’s in a different world now. He’s not wrestling Raven, or AJ or Sting…he’s wrestling a machine. The “paint brushing” might as well have been Angle brushing what rust Jarrett had off, because at this point Jarrett takes control on the mat. He’s able to hang with everything Kurt throws as Jeff throws Angle over the top. Jarrett even vaults himself over the top rope, showing that he's going all out tonight. You can tell he’s feeling it. He starts to string together his patented offense and even gets in a classic “Jarrett Strut,” but he forgot one thing…he’s in the ring with Kurt Angle.

Angle hits a huge clothesline and takes back control. Kurt dominates Jeff with a sleeper, the very move that Jeff is known for using so effectively. This isn't so much used as a resthold as much as it's Kurt's way of slowing down a very emotional Jeff Jarrett. It begins to work as Jeff starts to wear down. He hasn’t been in the ring in well over a year and he’s going up against the best in the world. Perhaps this is too soon. Perhaps he should have gone up against a lower caliber of opponent. Perhaps…but he’s not falling…not tonight.

Jarrett uses the biggest advantage he has over Kurt, his veteran instincts. Angle gets too aggressive and runs into the post. Jarrett capitalizes with a DDT. Jeff gets desperate and hits a move I’ve never seen him use, the Blue Thunder Bomb. It’s not enough to put Angle away though as Angle recovers with some patented Angle offense, The belly to belly suplex. Angle’s had more than enough of Jarrett so he goes for his Angle Slam, but Jarrett has it scouted. They battle on the top rope and Jarrett gets his biggest move of the match with a Superplex. He knows he doesn’t have much time so he locks in the Figure Four. Angle sells it like it’s the end, but just manages to reach the ropes. Ankle lock out of no where and Jarrett’s in trouble. He thinks about tapping but he just can’t…not tonight. Not after 17 months of Hell. He barely manages to escape, but by that time he’s too worn down emotionally and psychically to recover. Angle Slam and it’s all but over. At least on any other night…but not tonight. Angle is more than frustrated so he gets desperate. Very desperate. He goes up for a Moonsault and gets nothing on the way down. It’s anyone’s match now.

Jarrett sits up and starts talking to himself. He knows that this is his last chance. The ref gets knocked out but Jarrett doesn’t hesitate. He can’t against Kurt Angle. Stroke from JJ but there’s no one to count the 3. At that moment, outside enforcer Mick Foley slides into the ring to make the pin attempt but only gets 2. Angle knows he was nearly beat, so he gets even more desperate and hits a low blow behind Foley’s back. It’s time to end this. He grabs a chair but Foley won’t have that. Angle has lost it and annihilates Foley with the weapon. He’ll do anything to win and destroy whatever lies in his path to do it. Chair shot on Jarrrett. He’s done. He has nothing left to give. Perhaps Jeff deserves it. After all, he’s made a living doing what ever it takes to win. Maybe tonight was never his night to begin with…

But it was. Not even God himself can stop this man...not tonight. Mick Foley has stopped the pinfall from taking place. As Foley gains vengeance on Angle, Jarrett knows that it’s now or never. One final bullet in the chamber. He grabs the guitar that has been by his side for years, and with all his might he destroys Angle with it. Even the best in the world can’t rise from that.

Redemption at last…

The Best Of AJ Styles Volume 1 (Disc 1)

AJ Styles vs Psicosis vs Jerry Lynn vs Low Ki-6/26/02-Double Elimination Match to crown the 1st ever X division champion

I had seen this match many times before this viewing but I appreciated it here more than ever. The performances by both Lynn and AJ are simply remarkable and considering this was their 2nd show ever they really hit a homerun with the X division here. The action never lets up and it certainly set a standard in the X division that they're still trying to live up to today. One of the top 5 X division matches of all time and right there with the Unbreakable match as the most historical match in X division history.

Rating: ****3/4

Low Ki vs Jerry Lynn vs AJ Styles-8/7/02

This match is a forgotten gem. These 3 guys had such unreal chemistry in the ring that it's scary, some of the best chemistry I've seen seen to be quite honest. The only thing that really takes away slightly from the match is the horrible finish where Low Ki gets Spiraled Tapped by AJ and clearly comes off of Lynn but the ref still counts the 3. Nonetheless a remarkable performance and another benchmark in their epic series.

Rating: ****1/4

AJ Styles vs Low Ki vs Jerry Lynn-8/21/02-Triangle Ladder Match

Another match I had seen before so I knew what to expect, and of course this is another great match. I'd say it's the best straight ladder match in TNA history just ahead of Kaz/Christian from 2007. The finish to this match is absolute perfection and this really culminated their feud with the 3rd man Lynn finally getting his title victory after Ki and AJ had already accomplished it. Pretty innovative match as well, I know all the TLC and 3 way tag team stuff had been done but this was the 1st 3 way singles ladder match that I can think of off the top of my head. (I could easily just be forgetting something though) Anyway, just a great match but that was to be expected.

Rating: ****1/4

AJ Styles vs Syxx-Pac-10/23/02-No DQ Match

I never realized how well these 2 guys work in the ring together, this match wasn't quite as good as their No Surrender 05 encounter but this is still a very good match. The cocky heel AJ back then really seemed to work well and his versatility is certainly on display in this match and really on this collection as a whole. This was AJ's 2nd X title win and so far the weakest match on this disc. (Which is saying something cause this was still great)

Rating: ***1/4

AJ Styles vs The Amazing Red-10/30/02

Wow, what a match. Red's offense is something to behold, not that AJ is any slouch either here. But the exchanges and fluidity in this match are among some of the best I've seen in any X division contest. Red plays the underdog to perfection and everytime he almost had AJ beat is simply a sensational nearfall. They just never skip a beat and put on a match that is representative of what the X division should be all about.

Rating: ****

AJ Styles/D'Lo Brown vs XXX-5/25/03

This was on here to highlight AJ's success in the tag division after all the X division goodness and while still a good match this is the weakest on the 1st disc. AJ and Low Ki work so well toghether and really together are the life of the match pretty much. There are some really great moments and the finish is actually incredible. That's one thing about watching this disc, it makes me yearn for the days when TNA had fabolous finishes to their matches. Nowadays you see so many great TNA matches marred by suspect finishes and it does take away something from the match overall, really hope they can change that in the near future. Anyway, still a good match and a pretty good choice to be on here.

Rating: ***

Overall I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this and how much more I really respect those early days even more. One thing I'll say too that some people might not agree with, TNA should go back to the 4 sided ring. I just think after watching this that it does them more justice and is just more visually appealing and condusive to great free flowing wrestling. Not that I hate the 6 sided ring or anything but it's just something that crossed my mind while watching this.

Disc 1 Rating: 9/10

They need to release an AJ Volume 3 this year with a full documentary and all, I'd pick it up guaranteed. Be back soon with Disc 2 thoughts.

Destination X 2008

1. LAX vs. MCMG vs. RNR Infection for the #1 Contendership for the TNA Tag Team Championship
If I remember correctly this match wasn't even announced on Impact and just kind of appeared on the website's PPV card, kind of ironic as this ended up being the MOTN IMO. This match was everything you could want in an opener and more with its fast pace and good spots. All 6 men did a good job making this match exciting and showing the world what a great opener is all about. LAX picked up the win after the epic last few moments where everybody was hitting a big move. ****

2. Petey Williams vs. Jay Lethal for the X Division Championship
Really good match here, about what you'd expect from these two. The match kept up a great pace and each wrestler taking turns showing off their signature moves. The ending was pretty unexpected with Co Cal getting involved, there was no way I saw that coming. I honestly thought that Petey had won when he hit the Destroyer but I was wrong. Still, a good match with an ending I thought was nice because I didn't expect it and helped further the Lethal/Sonjay/Val storyline. ***1/4

3. Kaz and Eric Young vs. Black Reign and Rellik
On paper this match looks like rubbish but it ended up being quite watchable. Kaz worked his ass off in this match to make the others look good and Rellik doing most of the wrestling for his team instead of Black Reign helped alot. This match also saw the birth of Super Eric that proceeded to annoy us for the next several months. But putting that aside the match itself was solid, nothing more nothing less. **1/2

4. ODB vs. Gail Kim vs. Awesome Kong for the TNA Knockouts Championship
I was looking forward to this match more than any other on the card tbh because the Knockouts Division was probably at its peak at this point. All three women did a good job at helping make this match great! It had a fast pace, made Kong look strong and had a good story of Gail and ODB trying to topple the monster. The match was going great and ended with a confrontation between ODB and Kong that was imo better than their match at Against All Odds. The ended seemed just a little off because it seemed to come out of nowhere, I remember thinking "Where the hell was Gail" as she was out the last few minutes. But that didn't take much away from this very good match. ***1/4

5. Curry Man and Shark Boy vs. Team 3D in a Fish Market Street Fight
WAY better than I expected it to be. Going into this match I didn't expect a match at all, I expected a pointless meaningless brawl which in a way it was but still it was better than expected. As far as comedy matches go they don't get much better than this, it involved Brother Ray french kissing a dead fish, low-blows using fish and DW showing off his fish knowledge. Aside from the comedy stuff there was some good wrestling action in this match. I'll give it some extra points for actually making me laugh at a couple points.
**3/4

6. Booker T vs. Robert Roode in a "Stand by Your Man" Strap Match
The stip going into this match was that the winner's valet would get to whip the loser's valet 10 times with the leather strap. I found the Strap stip to be good but the added stip was pretty pointless if you ask me. That and the match itself was a huge disappointment, both men can do way better. The was some good back and forth action but it didn't last long and didn't live up to the good build-up this match had. Watchable I guess but not what you'd expect from these guys. **

7. James Storm vs. Rhino in an Elevation X Match
Honestly I don't know how to rate this match, all I know is that it does what its suppose to and keep you on the edge of your seat. It wasn't as good as last years match probably because it didn't have an athlete the caliber of AJ in it. For my last comment I'll say thumbs up for doing its job but please TNA never have this match again, it's too much of a hazard. N/A

8. The Unlikely Alliance (Samoa Joe, Christian Cage and Kevin Nash) vs. The Angle Alliance (Kurt Angle, AJ Styles and Tomko)
I'm sure like most people going into this PPV I was thinking wtf? Another 6-man tag main event on PPV? But atleast this match made some sense with Joe wanting to take care of the alliance before meeting Angle for the World Title. Another thing is this match actually delivered, in fact it ended up being a great match and a great main event. All 6 men hit great moves and helped move the match along nicely. The back and forth action and the build for the next month's PPV was done very well here as Joe looked like a beast. Great match one that I would recommend checking out if you have some time. ***1/2

Conclusion: This was another good PPV from TNA! While not as good of a wrestling show as AAO (8/10) it was still a good watch. The first half of the show was brilliant and some matches were way better than expected (Kaz and Young vs. Reign and Rellik, Fish Market Street Fight). But the problem was that two of the big matches didn't deliver (Roode vs. Booker, Rhino vs. Storm) and that hurt that PPV a bit. But the main event ended the show on a high note and made this a good DVD to pick up if you want to keep up with TNA's releases. I'd give this show...

7.5/10

Victory Road 2008

12-man Elimination X
Incredible match. Fast-paced, non-stop action for almost 30 minutes. Never a dull moment and it even got better near the end. I’m glad to see Shelley shone in this match. It’s a kinda match you won’t see often with all these different styles, but it worked well and I enjoyed every second of it. The only bad thing I can say is that the match lacked some big spots like in the U-X or FMM match. If I had 2-3 of those, my rating would be higher. ****1/4

Gail vs Angelina:
Decent showcase of both girl’s wrestling abilities. Kim needs a better finisher though.**

Lethal vs Dutt
Solid match for as long it lasted, but it had more potential. There was too much focus on Val during the match and I’m not really into this feud tbh. Probably their HJ will be better.
**1/2

LAX vs Beer Money INC
Like always LAX was way over in this match. I’m not a huge fan of lumberjack matches, but this one was fun to watch. The focus was on the wrestling inside the ring where all 4 delivered a fun and strong match. Beer Money is just pure gold both out and in the ring. ***

Taylor vs Kong
Once again perfectly booked match with Kong looking like and undefeatable force in the Knockouts division. The match was too short to shine, but it was very good. I liked the post-match beatdown, too bad Abyss came in to help. **

Ultimate X
Not as fast-paced as other U-X matches and certainly not as fast-paced as the opener. Still a solid match which I enjoyed very much. Kaz once again put his body on the line with an incredible leg drop. Some other nice spots made it a fun match to watch actually.***1/2

FMM 6-man tag:
From the opening belt, a brawl started and it never ended actually. AJ’s summersault dive in the opening minute set the tone. Very good match overall, highlighted by an amazing cross body from Christian. Near the end it kinda slowed down tho. ***3/4

Booker vs Joe
Crowd was really into this match as they booed Joe and cheered for Booker. Joe played the crowd very well and dominated most of this match. Near the end he totally destroyed Booker. I still don’t know why the refs tried to stop Joe because he did nothing wrong.. Sting’s interference was a great segment. I hoped Joe laid out Sting actually. Strange ending to say at least… left you with a strange taste. ***1/2

Overall: 8,5/10
TNA’s best PPV of the year for me. Some people were complaining about the booking, but I thought it was booked perfectly and the wrestling we got was awesome.

'The Phenomenal' AJ Styles (c) vs 'The Samoan Submission Machine' Samoa Joe

TNA X-Division Title Match

TNA Turning Point 2005
December 11, 2005
Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida

Before we go into the match, here’s a quick rundown of the buildup. Like many TNA fans will remember, at last month’s PPV Samoa Joe went a little too far. After he won the 8-man Elimination Tag match, he attacked his tag partner Christopher Daniels and gave him two Muscle Busters on a chair. Afterwards AJ Styles, the X-division champ, came in to protect the injured Fallen Angel. AJ was upset and called Joe a coward with no respect for the X-division he built. He challenged Joe for the belt. Joe, never been pinned or never been submitted before, accepted the challenge.
Get ready for a brutal ‘title vs streak’ match.

“Is he human?”

From the moment the belt rang, AJ jumped on Joe and gave him some forearms and knees. He was mad. We’re still in the first minute when AJ gives Joe an impressive suplex. He throws Joe in the ropes, jumps over him, rolls under him and plants his boots to Joe’s face. What a Phenomenal Dropkick. Joe slowly gets up, takes a look at AJ and goes after him. Five or six brutal kicks followed by a running kick which knocked AJ out to the outside. That was Joe, unstoppable.

AJ tries to come back with a high flying move, but Joe takes his feet away and AJ lands awkwardly on the apron. It really becomes brutal now as Joe takes AJ’s feet, he swings AJ around like a toy and nails him head first into the steel guardrail. AJ slowly gets up, but the fans were chanting ‘Olé, Olé’ and then you know what’s coming… The Olé Kick, how brutal.

Joe rolls AJ back in the ring and goes for his signature combo: chop to the back, kick to the chest and a knee in the face. He stares at him and follows with a senton back splash for a nearfall. The Machine is in total control while AJ’s gasping for air. He throws AJ in the turnbuckle now and delivers a high knee. AJ tries to block the face wash, but Joe answers with a stiff kick to the ribs. He does the face wash followed by a running kick to the head. It’s a one man show as Joe’s toying around with AJ.

Suddenly AJ hits a Pelé Kick from the apron. He goes for the Flying Forearm, but Joe counters into a brutal powerbomb. No pin attempt, but he rolls him over in the Boston Crab. AJ manages to escape with a kick to Joe’s head. When Joe tries to finish him, AJ rolls him over the top rope. AJ takes a moment to rest now and then he flys. Shooting Styles Press. That’s why he’s simply phenomenal. He has turned the momentum now and delivers a Flying Forearm to Joe’s head. Joe tries to stop AJ with a belly-to-belly suplex, but AJ blocks it and delivers a Stylin’ DDT for a 2 count. Out of nowhere Joe hits him with the Snap Slam for another 2 count. Crowd is on their feet and they’re chanting ‘This is Awesome’.

AJ is still not done and he puts Joe in the Styles Clash. Surprisingly he lifts Joe up and delivers a devastating powerbomb. How did he do that? Both men are back on their feet and Joe delivers a clothesline from hell. It was so brutal, JBL was made ridiculous. AJ kicks out at 1... Double underhook face buster from Joe. Once again not even a 2 count. AJ screams, he’s trying to send Joe a message and turns thing around with a second Pelé Kick. It’s not enough for him and he nails another powerbomb. Instead of a pin attempt he lifts him up again… STYLES CLASH. He rolls him over.. 1, 2,.. NO. Joe kicks out! Is he human? AJ tries a roll-up, but Joe blocks it and puts him in the Coquina Clutch. Nobody has ever escaped this one and AJ is in the middle of the ring, but he rolls over and comes very close to the ropes. Not close enough because shortly after he’s already unconscious. Joe does it again and remains undefeated.

Winner: ‘The Samoan Submission Machine’ Samoa Joe via submission after 19 minutes

Joe takes the belt and helps AJ to get up, only to hit him with the belt. He takes a chair and tries to finish him like he did with Daniels, but the Fallen Angel interrupts and goes after Joe. Shot after shot, but Joe stops him with two headbutts. Officials try to stop Joe, but he cleans house and leaves. What a segment, perfectly booked.

Overall: What a damn great match. I love how brutal and vicious it was. The kicks and punches from Joe were so unbelievable stiff. The storytelling was brilliant as well. Joe was just incredible in those days, no whining, just kicking ass. Everyone who crossed his path, got destroyed. I miss the tweener, psycho Joe.

The Ladder match and the ME were fucking awesome though. So many innovative spots in dutt/lethal great stuff.

Great list dude, the streetfight from AAO most definitely owns. (***3/4 after a recent watch) The story of Lethal fighting through to save the X division was awesome, shame they didn't play that one up more afterwards cause it really was a great moment.

AAO in general is actually awesome, that event has something for everyone pretty much. I will do a review soon hopefully.

Thanks. I love the street fight. How could you not root for Lethal, :p. It's a shame that the aftermath wasn't better. A definite ***3/4.

AAO was pretty awesome from I remember. Thinking about it makes me want to give EY/Storm and Abyss/Judas another watch as I remember them both being really good matches when they happened.

TNA Ultimate matches review part 2! - Ultimate X

A few interviews again from stars like Styles, Lethal, Dutt, Jarrett and Kaz.

Match 1: Sabin vs Petey williams vs Aj styles - Turning point 2005.

This is the match I've been waiting for! I seen this before on youtube and had it at ****3/4 but now it's time to see if it gets the ***** rating. Some nice action early is followed with Scott Da'more getting kicked out for interference. Petey then dominates with some cool moves before it basically breaks down for the rest of the match. Everyone gets there time to shine with some awesome moves involving the cables such as an Hurricarana from petey to sabin who was in an electric chair hold from AJ. My faveourite spot of the match is when Aj gets dropkicked by Sabin which flips him inside out. The 3 men hit there finishers to try and get an opportunity as Aj has an injured arm from Petey. The end comes when Sabin and Petey are fighting for the belt but Aj springboards his way up there and snatches it from them.

*****! 6th ***** match in TNA for me now

Ultimate X challenge Destination X 05

This starts as a tag match with Daniels and Killings taking on Skipper and Styles. Nothing much to write home about here but the action was decent as was Daniels teaming with his former XXX partner skipper even though they weren't on the same team. It leads to killings getting pinned making this match a triple threat match although it's basically a 2-1 handicap match. Styles does his best for a while to fight off the former XXX members but it's eventually to much for him. The tide turns however when Daniels does the BME off the cables and it connects with both men! skipper and Daniels argue which leads to them fighting it out. Back and forth action between the 3 men follows until Skipper is rolled up by Daniels after hitting his finisher on Styles. The final fall is an ultimate X match and it's basically Daniels and Styles making repeated attempts to climb the cable, Good action. Daniels wins when Aj grabs the title belt while the ref is down but Daniels snatches it from styles after an Angels wings.

***1/2

Lax vs Aj styles and Christopher Daniels - No surrender 06 (I think?)

I hope there steel cage match is on this DVD as I haven't seen it and I heard it's awesome. Anyway, On to the match. I'm so glad they put this on the DVD as this is probably the second best Ultimate X match ever. The spots using the cables weren't as innovative as other matches but the action in the ring was awesome. LAX did a great job in the first Ultimate X and Daniels and styles never disapoint. The ending is awesome as Aj hits a styles clash on Homicide off the ring apron through the table before Konnan knocks him out. Daniels then climbs to the top of the tower to jump to the middle while Konnan and Hernandez are standing in the ring. Great match!

****1/2

Victory road 2007 Ultimate X gauntlet.

Can anyone say Spotfest? This is exactly what this match was and what a way to open the show. The pace of this match never let up and the booking was great (keeping the right ammount of people in the Ultimate X part of the match). This match was done on the elvation X set so the climbing wasn't as fast but it led to some interesting moves. Kaz was probably the stand out with his famous Diamond cutter on daniels who was hanging off the Elevation X and his Flux capicitor. Daniels wins after Skipper pulls Lethal (I think) down. After the match XXX reunite.

****1/4

XXX vs Lax BFG 07

This was for a shot at the tag titles. Pretty good action all the way throughout and another opener, Ultimate X is good at that. There's 2 big spots in this match which stand out and that's the super super cross body from Skipper off the top of the Steel structure and a Super neckbreaker involving Skipper and Homicide from the cables. As I said, the action never let up and it was great all through out. LAX after Hernandez climbs up the cables to grab the X.

****

Disc rating: 9/10!

Well let's see, 1 ***** match, 2 matches in the ***-***3/4 range and the rest above ****. Yep, Thats awesome.

Disc 2 Matches:

5) Kurt Angle vs Samoa Joe - Winner Take All Match- TNA Hard Justice 2007

Okay, according to the recap and build to this match TNA took the Days of Our lives approach with Karen Angle in the mix.

A ton of gold on the line here.

It's pretty clear these guys have chemistry.

Joe cuts a good promo before the match that we get to see.

Fourth match against on the dvd, five if you count Slam 07 against other participants.

Angle drops one of his belts during his entrance. Funny stuff.

The match is on!

You had to think Angle had the upperhand on Joe from their series alone, just barely and neither man forgot it going into this war.

Angle and Joe tie-up and are backed to the corner, Angle hits a side headlock takeover.

Joe takes him out of the ring.

Out walks Karen "Angle" and the new man in her life and Angl now has this on his mind.

I think what's interesting is this could take Angle off his game or fire him up. In the first disc documentary we learned Angle works better when something bad happens to a personal life.

Angle goes for an overhead armbar. Joe forces him out of the ring again and takes a moment. Angle circles around the ring. Angle in a side headlock now. Joe again mixed with Karen kissing her new man is throwing Angle off. Angle with a top wristlock and then is thrown down to the mat.

Fans in favor of Joe. Joe sizing Angle up waiting for an oppurtunity, again off the ropes Joe blocks an Angle shot and maintains his grip in a side headlock, and off the ropes they repeat that same scenerio until Angle backs off and takes off his straps.

This is good, really good.

I love this wrestling style, sunset flip from Angle and he makes an ASS out of himself. Angle finally takes off to Karen who poors alcohol in his face and Angle is rolled back in the ring after Joe slaps him.

Back inside Joe lands down on Angle and got a two count. Joe reversed into the corner but he side-stepped Angle sending him shoulder first into the ring-post. Joe delivers shots to Angle inthe corner. Joe chokes him out in the corner. Angle out of no where catches a break and hits a belly to belly suplex followed by a European uppercut.

Angle furious stared at Karen and began to use his anger for motivation to stomp on Joe relentlessly in the corner before gaining a nearfall on suplex. Angle with a big choke to Joe.

A lets go Angle, lets go Joe chant fills the TNA arena. Angle with a German.

A second one hanging onto a near three hundred pounder. Before the third one, Joe countered the third having it scouted and flipped Angle over to the mat. Tossed him overhead, released suplex. Great stuff.

Angle and Joe release right's, punch for punch. Off the ropes Joe lands a clothesline and Angle irishwhipped Joe to the ropes and he hit a hiplock. Angle to the corner elbows Joe but Samoa Joe gets up high with an incredible kick, amazing agility and that move gets a long two.

Great stuff here.

Joe up, Angle down. Samoa Joe's eyes are raked and a release or RANDOM suplex by Angle. Joe slapped an amazing suplex out of the corner on Angle and got another two. Fans chant for Joe.

Joe tried a Muscle Buster but Angle gets an Ankle lock. Joe reverses with a clutch out of the corner, then an ankle lock, Joe out and then off the ropes a roll-up, and a two. Amazing sequence.

Joe then hit with an Olympic Slam and manages to kickout!

Angle another European uppercut in the corner. Angle with a big shot to Joe but his headbutts off the top and Angle goes down to the mat.

Joe took a little bit long and Angle jumps up and suplexes him from the top. Nearfall. Fans chant for Joe and Angle uses the chants and Karen as motivation, Angle hits a moonsault up top and misses. Joe chops Angle up high. Joe hits a muscle buster and Angle barely kicked out.

THIS IS how you book a climax!

Angle up and now Joe from behind with a rear choke into his clutch, dead cnter of the ring, Angle in trouble. Kurt bites the hand and gets the Ankle Lock applied. Angle rolled through back into the choke.

Yes, we've seen this before but it's still great.

Fans chant that this is awesome, after a break of the hold the referee goes down. Joe chokes out Angle and he taps, no ref. Angle with a lowblow and Joe goes down. Karen grabs a chair and Joe crawls towards it. Karen pulled it away and the swerve takes place.

Karen handed it to Angle!

In the end at 18:30 TNA World Heavyweight and IWGP Third Belt Champion Kurt Angle defeated Samoa Joe to win the TNA X Division and World Tag Team Championship by hitting Joe in the head via chairshot.

This is one of the greatest TNA matches I've ever seen.

Everything was booked tremendously. It had everything you need.

**** 1/4

6) Kurt Angle (c) vs Jay Lethal - X-Division Title Match- TNA No Surrender 2007

I feel the Madness.

Blaaaack Machismo!

Ahhh, Jay Lethal one of my favourites, I dig it.

Angle and him had a contrast in style's which will make this one interesting.

Angle said his favourite match was with Lethal and elevating stars like him is what made TNA what it's all about, Jarrett agreed.

Jay Lethal and Angle go toe to toe quickly in a quality match.

Black Machismo comes out to Macho's theme and attire and I love it.

Angle shakes his head.

Lets go Lethal is chanted and Angle is shocked Lethal out-wrestles him with chain-wrestling on the armbar. Lethal with a headlock off the ropes and applies a shoulder block, off the ropes Angle hits a standard hiplock and smiled in cocky fashion.

I love this start.

Another vicious tie-up, Angle has the confidence and experience as the veteran making him the favourite grounding Lethal to the ground with a side headlock. Angle leap over Lethal this time and now the tables turn, Lethal hit a hiplock and a flip over into a dropkick into Angle's face.

Lethal hits a drop axehandle and then Angle throws Lethal's body into the corner rapid fire. Angle stomps on Lethal. Angle with a backbreaker. Angle the aggressor with a front facelock into a vertical suplex and he gets a two.

Angle with a half body scissors wrapping his legs around Lethal's body executing his fortay, the mat game. Soona full body scissors, textbook offense by the Champ.

Lethal elbows out but Angle catches him in mid-air hitting a back breaker. Angle picks up Lethal and slams him to the mat. Kurt drives his knee into the back of Lethal and hits an uppercut to Lethal. Angle with a back suplex and now the frustration by Angle sets in as he pulls the neck of Lethal.

Angle hits a suplex on Lethal after he elbows out of a headlock again and a suplex takes both men down. Lethal up first and uses his quickness to duck under Angle and apply a headscissors.

Machismo with a Inziguri and a two!

Lethal lays shots on Angle and then Angle with a waist-lock go behind releases suplex tossing him all the way over and another two.

Angle stomps on the mat waiting for Jay and he scooped him up and Angle falls back, Lethal goes for a desperation count. Lethal points up high and signals for an elbow while still selling the back fromthe suplex.

Angle caught him up high and hit a belly to belly.

Angle gets a two. An Ankle Lock now. Kicked to the corner and Machismo with a quick roll-up and he got a two. Angle with a German. Angle still with the grip and number three is hit. Lethal kicks out!

Angle mad. Fans chant Lethal's awesome. Angle goes for the suplex and Lethal hits the Lethal combination and A MACHO Elbow. Just a two.

Lethal in position for a piledriver and series of counters and nearfalls don't go over and a release German by Angle takes down Lethal. Angle takes off his straps and goes for an Angle Slam but Lethal counters it into a roll-up, Angle counters it into an Ankle Lock.

Lethal counters into a roll-up and the place goes crazy!

So in the end Lethal pinned Angle by reversing an Ankle Lock into a roll-up at 12:19 to become the X-Division Champion.

This match is a lot like Angle versus Mysterio at Summerslam 02 with the length, the quality, the aerial skill, they both include Angle and I have them at the same rating.

Fun stuff.

****

7) Kurt Angle (c) vs Sting - TNA Title Match -Bound For Glory 2007

Angle and Sting.

A dream match.

Kurt Angle and Sting go to tie up and the fans are of course as loud as ever for these two.

Angle with a waistlock go-behind, Sting reverses it and Angle holds onto the top rope. Angle swings the arm of Sting and works over his wrist on the mat.

Sting realizes with veteran instinct he is better on his vertical base and applies an arm-ringer and then a side headlock take-over. Angle with a leg-scissors as the standard counter hold on the mat.

Both men up and get the usual applaud from the crowd. Angle hits a shoulder block and runs into a hiptoss by Sting. Angle takes a moment on the outside. Angle and Sting exchange chops inside the ring until Sting recieved a European Uppercut.

Angle goes for the Ankle Lock but Sting will have none of that countering his hold and then finally clotheslining him over the top rope to the floor. Sting throws Angle to the Steel. Sting grabs Angle and face-first he goes into the Steel. Sting slams Angle onto the table, he breaks the count and he tosses him in the ring.

Angle charged at Sting and ran shoulder first into the ring-post. Sting was going to go for the deathlock but Angle immediately counters into a suplex. Angle is up. Kurt hits a back-breaker on Sting and a two only. Kurt hits a European uppercut on Sting. Angle chokes out Sting and now hits a snapshot veritcal suplex.

Angle relentless in pin attempts, vertical suplex into a bodyscissors. Angle in mid-match desperately tried to weardown Sting from Angle's fortay, the mat game. Sting elbowed out and both men level one another down with a clothesline.

Both men up at the count of eight and it is a slugfest. Angle missed with a boot, hit a chop then a clothesline. Angle off the ropes into Sting who hits a spinebuster.

Sting has gotten even more aggressive over the years.

Angle in the corner and Sting hits the Stinger splash. Sting in control now. Angle suplexed Sting down from the top and got a nearfall.

Amazing action.

Angle went for a Angle Slam, Sting rolls through and got a two with a roll-up. A german by Angle, he maintains his grip and got two. He goes for the full three and he got him. Angle got a two count.

Angle takes off the straps. Angle slaps on the Ankle Lock but Sting uses his leg-strength to counter into the Scorpion Deathlock! He has him.

Karen Angle runs to the ring and distracts Sting, Nash came in and clotheslined Sting. Angle hit an Olympic Slam on Sting. Angle distracted now because he wanted an official and Sting kicks out!

Angle can't believe it!

Angle has Sting up high and the two clobber at one another until Sting has Angle down. Sting leaps from the top but Angle has his knees up and got a two. Angle to his feet hits a front powerslam to Sting.

Now Angle goes to the top rope and hit a moonsault but still Sting kicks out! Angle and Nash can't believe it as the fans roar.

Angle slaps on the Ankle Lock.

It's in the middle of the ring. Sting stares at Nash pitting in the face. The official is down, Sting hits a side drop to Angle and no official while Sting counts. Nash pulls the official out of the ring.

No pinfall.

Nash comes in and he drives elbows into Sting. Somehow Sting ducks the punishment and double clotheslines both men. Sting hit with a lowblow by Angle. Angle grabs a bat and Sting blocks it. Sting takes care of business the way he knows how with a bat.

A Scorpion Deathdrop to Angle who is bleeding.

In the end at 18:29 Sting is champion after he pinned Angle.

The fans go crazy!

This was a bit over-booked during the climax but that doesen't take away from how great of a match it really was.

This match was just as good as I expected.

A borderline classic from two of the all time greats!

****

8) Kurt Angle (w/Karen Angle) vs Sting (c) - TNA Title Match -TNA Impact! 10/28/07

Kurt Angle is the challenger here.

Huge match on Impact! here and the first and only one on the DVD.

Sting-Angle 2, the Re-Match.

Tenay really put over how huge this was for live television.

Both men a bit hesitant to get it going. Angle with a shoulder block but a two count. Sting keeps exploding off the ropes putting the shoulder into Angle again to show him up and the fans love it.

Sting in an overhead arm-bar into a switch, Sting tried to get methodical but Angle suplexes him and telling him he sucks.

TNA chants.

A European uppercut to Sting in the corner with kick after kick and then Sting off the ropes levelled Kurt with a Spinebuster. Sting stomps on Angle down on the mat. Sting snaps Angle with a suplex. Sting drops a bunch of blows to Angle.

Nash comes out.

Commercial break.

Sting looked to be in control going for a hiplock but Angle hit a belly to belly. They showed us Angle roughed up Sting during the break. Sting out of no where connects with a desperation tornado ddt. Angle can't clothesline Sting because he is dropping Angle with a running clothesline.

Sting grabs Angle outside the ring throwing him chestfirst into the steel steps. Angle rakes his face. Sting levelled Nash outside the ring.

Sting hits the Stinger Splash in the corner. Angle hits a suplex out of the corner.

Nash on the outside is the X-Factor.

Angle scooped up Sting for a Tombstone Piledriver but both men counter Angle goes into the lock, Sting counters, Angle goes for a slam, Sting counters!

Same formula!

Sting has the deathlock set in until Nash tries to interupt the action. Nash is knocked off the apron. Angle hits the Olympic Slam and calls for an official and Hebner counts the three for Angle.

This was okay for a TV match. Definitely some good spots, the climax was a bit sloppy, the worst match on the DVD up to this point but I can see why it was placed here.

** 1/2

9) Kurt Angle (c) vs Yuji Nagata - IWGP Title Match- Global Impact from Japan

A nice-unique addition here.

30, 000 apparently here according to Tenay.

Going to be a great atmosphere here.

Yuji Nagata attacked right away from Angle with righthands. Yuji fought back and the crowd cheer.

Angle hits a suplex to boo's.

Nagata hits suplexes to cheers.

Nagata and Angle reversing arm-ringer's. Angle reverses the side headlock with a leg-scissors. Nagata with a drop toehold into a crossface and Angle gets to the rope and comes back in the ring.

Both men exchange waistlock go-behinds. Angle unleashed with forearm shots and then Nagata used kicks, which was his fortay.

Nagata missed a kick as Angle had it scouted. Angle hit a suplex but Yuji Nagata got back up and kicked Angle down and slapped ona headlock. Nagata with a forearm shot, then Angle targetted the legs of Nagata since that is his power.

Nagata goes to the outside of the ring. Angle kicked Nagata in the leg on the outside then grapevine's the leg. Angle with a leglock to take the power game. Nagata uses the free leg on Angle slapped on with a leglock.

Angle pulled on a figure four down on the mat.

Angle relentless driving the elbow into Nagata twice and then he went for another leg-lock, Nagata uses his good leg and he has an armbar! Fans go crazy.

After a commercial break, Nagata is caught in German Suplexes.

Unfortunately we don't get this match in full but during the break Angle caught the ropes breaking the arm-bar and he caught kicks from Nagata's leg.

They switch over to Japanese commentary for a few seconds. Nagata with kicks and vertical suplexes.

Great match here.

Angle puts Nagata down to the mat but Nagata puts him in the crossface on Angle. Kurt has been in this place by a real killer so we'll assume he can get out of this hold.

Kurt somehow puts on an Ankle Lock in mid-ring, Nagata turns it around, a reverse into a crossface.

Nagata almost won but Angle reversed into an Ankle Lock. Right away Yuji Nagata reversed Angle's charged into a crossface.

Nagata in control but Angle uses his weight to roll over. Olympic Slam by Angle and Yuji Nagata got up at the last second. Angle misses a moonsault and Nagata drives a big knee into Kurt's jaw.

Up top Nagata drops down on Angle and gets a two. It seemed as if Nagata wanted an Angle Slam but Kurt pushed him off and the two exchange some Japanese stiffness.

Shot after shot. Nagata with a high knee then a boot to the face but Angle fired back with a clothesline.

Great stuff.

A beautiful belly to belly by Nagata but a two and Angle rakes the eyes. Angle down and finally up slaps on a desperaion Ankle Lock. Nagata in the middle of the ring taps out at a tv time of 16:08.

Good for Angle.

Nice to see the pace change for awhile.

This match wasn't boring throughout, never slow and the back and forth pacing was quite brilliant.

Both men shake and hug afterwards.

10) Kurt Angle (c) vs Samoa Joe in a Six Sides of Steel match for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship- :If Joe had loses, he would have to retire from professional wrestling forever -TNA Lockdown 2008

A nice choice to close this DVD, against Joe once again. This one had a different feel and that's a good thing.

Samoa Joe and Angle have delivered many memorable bouts over the years, here we go with the final one on the DVD, the bell rings.

Samoa Joe with everything on the line here.

The Cage surrounding the ring.

Kurt Angle and Joe! It's on.

Both guys taped palms, Angle with some jabs until Joe used his weight to turn it around on him. Angle kicks at Joe. Angle hops around smiling so we see the mouthguard.

Angle and Joe both have there fans like most matches in there series. Joe goes for kicks and Angle tries for a single leg takedown but Joe reverses it grabbing the ankle. Angle then grabbed the rope.

Angle then took Joe down with both LEGS and Angle on top of him stuffed his own punches and was told to break apart. Angle took down Joe and he blocked his face.

Kurt then goes for another takedown but Joe caught him with a kick and now Joe utilized his weight difference backing Angle to the mat.

They want to make this MMA-like apparently. I guess going with what's in is not a bad idea.

A lot of Joe chants while Joe hit a huge hiptoss flipping Angle over, he kicked him off. Joe ties up with Angle again. Angle with an explosive suplex. Kurt then chokes out Joe down on the mat. Angle on the side of Joe while choking him out.

Angle with a front facelock. Joe fights out but off the ropes, 300 pounds flip over as Angle hits a belly to belly. Samoa Joe reached for the ropes to break the ankle lock attempt. A European uppercut by Kurt Angle. Angle wasin a choke until he revered it into a figure four.

Joe tried to roll over but he was obviously in a lot of pain.

A mat based match, Angle let go with a suplex but Joe fought back with a clothesline and a high knee. Angle with an elbow into Joe. Joe caught Angle witha kick, both men go for a roll-up but Angle has the Ankle Lock set in.

Angle gets kicked out and charged into Joe in the corner but was press slammed, nearfall. Joe kicks Angle and hits him with a huge powerbomb with a bridge forwards, nearfall.

Joe with a Boston Crab!

Angle reverses into an Ankle Lock dragging Joe to the center of the ring. Joe goes into STF. They call it a crossface.

Both guys manage to reverse the crossface and ankle lock back and forth. A rear choke and Angle gets out, back into the Ankle Lock.

Joe in pain choked out Angle, and Angle came from behind Joe sent Angle into the cage and hit him with a big kick.

Joe from the corner elevated Angle.

In the end at 17:34 Joe became the New Champion defeating the "wrestling machine" by a Muscle Buster.

This match definitely had the goods.

It ranks up there.

I really digged the style.

Great choice to end a great dvd.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Final Rating for Kurt Angle TNA DVD = 8/10

This was different for me but I went into this one with an open mind, Dixie Carter calls Kurt Angle the greatest of all time. Okay, I'll ignore that comment and pay attention to the greatness on the DVD.

The Documentay inbetween the matches was an interesting way to go about it. Perhaps a little too much of Joe but it was understandable why it was the way it was.

This set featured a great Documentary and Ten great matches. For what they gave us it was mostly quality so certainly no complaints there. I'd suggest picking it up, no complaints here, I enjoyed this one!

Starting a new series of reviews kicking off with BFG 2005 and continuing on as well as my DVD collection will allow. I think this review might be a little lengthy so I’m gonna work on that for future reviews.

Opening Match, Four Corners Bout: Alex Shelley vs. Austin Aries vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Roderick Strong
This is actually on the pre-show to the PPV and West puts over just how stacked the card is considering that a match of this calibre is on the pre-show. Strong’s theme song is painfully generic, which is kind of fitting for him. Nice touch as the match kicks off with some rock-paper-scissors to determine the two to start the match off. Nevertheless this is a tremendous match considering its place on the card as they just let all four go balls to the wall for a little under 15 minutes. Everybody gets a chance to look good and the moves executed look crisp, unique and generally awesome. They hit some complicated stuff and I didn’t notice a single botch which is impressive too. The tag rules are eventually thrown out the window after a cool looking four-way submission hold and Dutt finishes Strong off with a great looking Dragonrana. A lot of fun and an excellent way to get the Impact Zone heated up for the show.

Rest of the pre-show featured an AMW interview and an angle where Raven confronted Larry Zbyszko over being screwed out of the World Title by Jeff Jarrett and AMW the previous month, nothing worth seeing really. Joe gets the Samoan dancers for his entrance but Liger wins with streamers and his really cool theme song. The story told in this match is one of Liger having to work quicker and smarter than Joe to try and combat his brute force and strength, and while it works the match never really gets out of second gear and it’s too short to be anything special. Joe picks up a clean win with the Muscle Buster/Coquina clutch combo, where Liger’s arm falls three times to show he can’t continue in a nice touch. That finish doesn’t get used enough.

Diamonds In The Rough vs. Shark Boy, Apollo & Sonny Siaki
The Diamonds are Simon Diamond, Elix Skipper and David Young. Simon provides a pep talk before the match to try and stop the Diamonds losing streak. Apollo and Siaki get booed during their entrance but Sharky’s there to get the crowd back on side. This bout is literally just there, it’s fine wrestling but nothing memorable or exciting. Only surprising part comes when Apollo and Young hit sweet suicide dives to the outside. A Skipper assisted spinebuster by Young finishes off Siaki. Fine for what it was.
**

Monty Brown vs. Lance Hoyt
Surprisingly good match alert. The match starts a little slow but from the moment Monty makes some fans move out of their seats only to not throw Hoyt into the guardrail (what a heel) is where it picks up, with Hoyt hitting a sweet dive once Monty’s done taunting the fans. Both these guys are really fired up and hit some sweet moves such as when Hoyt jumps off the top rope and gets caught in a fallaway slam position before being thrown up into the air and then hit with a sick Alphabomb by Brown. Hoyt fires back with a Rock Bottom style move that West calls a Chokeslam and a great looking Moonsault but it’s not enough to keep Brown down who hits the Pounce (period!) for the clean pin. Both guys worked hard and put on a fast-paced hard hitting bout. Good stuff!

3 Live Kru vs. Team Canada (w/ Scott D’Amore)
The Kru is Konnan, Ron “The Truth” Killings and BG James. Team Canada is represented by Bobby Roode, Eric Young and A-1. One of those is not like the others. Konnan kicks it off and as always throws his shoe at his opponent, Young in this case who beautifully oversells it by flying out of the ring. Never really got how that’s not a DQ but then Truth leg drops Roode right in the balls and the ref doesn’t seem to give a fuck about that either so I guess it’s all fair play. Crowd chant for the New Age Outlaws (Kip James/Billy Gunn is on the ramp watching). Be careful what you wish for guys. Match is basically Truth kicking ass, Canadians cheat to gain advantage, Truth gets worked over, makes hot tag to BG, D’Amore distracts the ref, Canadians cheat to win via hockey stick shot. Nothing special, nothing to see here. Could of easily been on Impact instead of their biggest PPV of the year.

Ultimate X Match: Petey Williams (w/ Scott D’Amore) vs. Chris Sabin vs. Matt Bentley (w/ Traci)
The plastic red X is hanging, first to capture it is #1 contender for the X Title. Some good spots in the opening minutes as Traci distracts Petey by plunging his head into her ample bosom while Bentley goes for the X, only to have Sabin dropkick Petey and then pull Bentley down, crashing an elbow onto Petey. Sabin also recreates the Final Resolution 2005 spot where he does a running across the ring powerbomb into the corner, except this time Petey hits Bentley instead of the turnbuckles. Dueling chants for Sabin and Petey throughout this one, not much love for Bentley. As I type that Bentley hits a nice neckbreaker/cutter combo on both men earning a “Bentley!” chant. Touché Impact Zone. Sick powerbomb by Sabin to Bentley while they’re both on the UX ropes earns a holy shit chant. Sabin goes for the X but Bentley spears him down and the X falls and has to be re-hung above the ring. Crowd aren’t exactly thrilled, they chant “use the ladder!” but I’m sure Tenay would yell that that’s against the “X division code”. As soon as the X is back in place Sabin and Bentley go for it but kick each other down and in a rather awesome moment Petey waits underneath it hoping for the X to fall, which it does seconds later giving him the victory as Tenay cries that it doesn’t count. Messy ending, which the wrestlers and crowd weren’t happy with (Sabin storms off immediately, Bentley is clearly pissed and Petey doesn’t celebrate at all), but it was still a good bout beforehand.

NWA World Tag Team Titles: America’s Most Wanted (w/ Gail Kim) vs. The Naturals
AMW recently turned heel and aligned themselves with Jeff Jarrett, destroyed Team 3D and then beat and bloodied the Naturals en route to capturing the Tag titles the night before on Impact. The Naturals are all business in the early going and charge down the ramp and lay a beating on the champs. Storm gets taken out of the equation quickly when Chase Stevens catches him trying to skin the cat and powerbombs him into the guardrail. Both Naturals then spend minutes beating on Harris while the referee begs for them to have a normal wrestling match, with tags and everything. Eventually Gail Kim proves to be the difference maker, distracting Andy Douglas so Storm can come back to life and throw him into the UX steel pillar, busting him open. Storm then throws Douglas onto the commentators table and West complains that Douglas’ blood is on his shirt in a classic moment. I miss you, Don. Harris attempts to use some powder but it’s kicked into his face, resulting in him hitting the Catatonic on Storm. The Naturals then hit the Death Sentence on Harris for a great near fall. Douglas gives chases to an interfering Gail Kim and ends up being blindsided and handcuffed to the guardrail by Harris in an inventive move which the referee is shockingly fine with. Storm busts Chase over the head with the beer bottle and then AMW make Douglas watch his buddy get the Death Sentence to finish it. Entertaining, spirited brawl here that was a lot more fun than I expected it to be going in. Bit of a shame this was the end of The Naturals as a properly featured team in TNA outside of the Shane Douglas manager mini-push they got in ’06.

Monster’s Ball Match: Jeff Hardy vs. Rhino vs. Abyss (w/ James Mitchell) vs. Sabu
Mitchell cuts a great pre-match promo, but that’s really par for the course with him. Jeff gets a mixed reaction on his entrance. He won’t by the end as this match rocks. The stipulations to this Monster’s Ball are a little different to later ones as for this the four participants have supposedly been locked in a room without food, water and sunlight for the past 24 hours. It’s not a bad idea in theory but it doesn’t make a difference in terms of how the match goes so it’s easy to see why they dropped it. Sabu gets badly busted open around the eye in the very early going, not sure how though as the camera was focused on Jeff and Abyss instead. I’m not gonna just recap all the crazy spots in this but rest assured this is a crazy, wild, fast-paced brawl with not a moment of down time. No rest holds to be found here that’s for sure. Jeff’s Swanton Bomb off the TNA structure putting Abyss through two tables on the floor level is an insane spot. The action continues after that and a bloodied Rhino picks up the win with a sick Rhino Driver off the middle rope to Jeff. If you like multi-man hardcore matches then this is one you gotta check out.

30-Minute Iron Man Match, X-Division Title: AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels
This is the rematch to their first Iron Man at Against All Odds 2005 which AJ won in sudden death overtime. Spirited start as AJ does a running jump off the ring steps, over the guard rail to clothesline Daniels down. It’s made even better by the camera angle and girls screaming. Match starts slow naturally so the crowd amuse themselves with a “your both awesome” chant. AJ controls nearly the entire first ten minutes with slow, methodical, but still interesting offense. AJ finally goes for a high-risk move with a top-rope clothesline attempt and ends up getting caught and blasted with a suplex. Daniels then takes control and, like AJ in the ten minutes before, decides to work over the head and neck area. AJ manages to get back into it with his springboard reverse DDT, which looks especially smooth tonight. Match goes back and forth for a few minutes before a Daniels flying knee knocks AJ through the ropes and he lands really awkwardly on the steps with his thigh/knee. He’s clearly in pain but that doesn’t stop Daniels hitting a sick suicide dive. Daniels throws AJ back in but drilled with the Pele! Turnabouts fairplay so AJ hits an awesome flip dive over the top to Daniels. The Fallen Angel then back suplexs AJ over the top rope right to the floor, with a nasty thud, for a “holy shit” chant. We’re still 0-0 as we enter 5 minutes remaining. AJ goes for a headstand but bounces right into a German suplex, before then no-selling and taking Daniels’ head off with a discus clothesline. Both men regroup as by now Styles’ leg that hit the steps has already started to swell and bruise up. In a great callback to the Unbreakable triple threat the month before AJ counters an Angel’s Wings attempt into a northern lights suplex with a bridge that this time doesn’t do the job. AJ manages to battle on and connects with the Styles Clash and gets the pinfall to make this 1-0 at 2 seconds remaining, to naturally pick up the victory. This match is not an all-time classic but is certainly still worth checking out, a very well-paced Iron Man match.

10-Man Gauntlet Match, Winner Earns an NWA Title Shot Tonight
NWA champ Jeff Jarrett is supposed to be facing Kevin Nash tonight, but Nash had some sort of chest pains the weekend of the show and called 911 and went to the hospital. We kick it off with Samoa Joe and Ron Killings. Entrants every 2 minutes in this one. Truth mocks the haka from Joe’s entrance and as you can guess, gets a vicious beating in return. A broken looking Sabu is entry #3 and he introduces his steel chair to Truth and Joe. Entrants every minute now, just Joe and Truth had to face each other for an initial 2 minute period. Seems pointless but there we go. Joe throws the chair into Sabu’s knees to take him down as Lance Hoyt is our next entrant. Hoyt is fired up, guess a big PPV loss will do that to you. Hoyt gets the early flurry of offense but it comes back to Joe kicking ass by the time the next entrant, Abyss, comes in. Abyss is favouring his hand and goes straight to battling Joe in a heavyweight clash the fans are super into. Truth manages to take them both out though as Jeff Hardy is here for entry #6. Jeff takes his time to enter, not really by choice, but it’s still a good tactic. Not much happens until Monty Brown comes down for #7 and hits a nice Pounce on Sabu. In a botch-tastic moment Brown throws Hardy over, and then blatantly throws himself over, to eliminate both of them. Don West tries to cover but nobody’s buying it. Rhino is entry #8 and quickly takes out Hoyt. Nothing going on for 50 seconds and Kip James, the only fresh man, comes in at #9 as Sabu gets dumped out. Tenay and West have no idea if Sabu is out or not. West assumes Raven is the natural tenth entrant, but instead it’s AJ Styles! Talk about an iron man. It eventually boils down to Rhino and Abyss and one Gore later, The War Machine has himself a World Title shot. Entertaining enough.

NWA World Heavyweight Title Match, Special Referee: Tito Ortiz: Jeff Jarrett vs. Rhino
Tito’s entrance allows Rhino to recover just a little. Jarrett takes his sweet time on the entrance, and why wouldn’t he considering Rhino’s condition? Jarrett brings a casket down to ringside as Jarrett had vowed to make sure someone left the show in a casket. Seems like a strange thing for Jeff to want to do but whatever. Jarrett owns Rhino for a while, Gail Kim distracts Tito and Rhino gores a guitar for a close two count. AMW come down and slide in a second guitar, Tito knocks out both of the tag champs and this time Rhino catches the Gore to win the title! A nice moment for Rhino, who I’ve always felt is underrated, but in terms of the main event of your first ever Wrestlemania-level PPV (in TNA’s eyes) it’s not really much. Planet Jarrett destroy Rhino and 3LK in the aftermath until Team 3D make the save to finish the show on a high note.

Overall A very strong show, like most of TNA’s PPV offerings in 2005. Highly recommended, especially for the Iron Man and Monster’s Ball matches. The pre-show match and Tag Team Title match are also worth checking out.

TNA 2012 eh? I'll go month by month just so I can cover all bases, somewhat. My use of the "/" thing can get out of control at times, but whatever.

January was actually pretty good match-wise. On TV, Roode/Hardy (01/12), Storm/Angle(01/12) and Storm/Hardy(01/19) were all pretty good and got a decent amount of time. Nobody remember Storm/Hardy vs. Roode/Ray (01/26) in their tables match? Really liked it at the time. Genesis gave us okay versions of Roode/Hardy and Storm/Angle, but I recall them being no better or worse than the TV matches. I wasn't a fan of Monster's Ball.

February gave us the Wembley shows. Remember those? We got a rushed version of Roode/Storm (02/02), but I preferred Storm/Ray from the same show. Daniels/AJ (02/09) was decent, but was old then and is ancient now. Sting/Storm vs. Roode/Ray from 02/09 was memorable for the piping hot crowd, they fucking LOVED Sting. Roode/Hardy had another decent match on 02/16 but was done and dusted by then. AAO was pretty bleh, I loved Aries/Shelley when it happened but it's fallen down the pecking order with rewatches. Kaz/AJ was forgettable, and the only memorable thing about Roode/Storm/Hardy was the finish.

March was pretty shit. On TV, we got a really great 6-man in the form of Magnus/Joe/Storm vs. Aries/Roode/Ray (03/01), the match went like 17 minutes or something too, definitely worth re-watching. TV provided little else unfortunately, but there's an okay Aries/Storm vs. Roode/Ray tag from 03/29. Victory Road? Wasn't a huge fan. Aries/Ion was good but just that, Styles/Anderson vs. Kaz/Daniels was random as fuck, Angle/Hardy is their best work and Roode/Sting felt too wacky.

April was a big improvement. TV provided really good/great matches in Hardy/Angle (04/05), Storm/Styles (04/05), Ray/Devon (04/26) and Magnus/Joe vs. Hardy/Anderson (04/26). Lockdown was a bit of a letdown, I preferred Storm/Styles to anything on the PPV. Lethal Lockdown sucked. MCMG vs. Magnus/Joe was average enough, but better than Hardy/Angle. Roode/Storm was really good but was never going to meet anyone's expectations.

May? MAY! Fabulous month. TV gave us a MOTYC in Styles/Roode (05/24), Sting/Roode (05/31) was probably Sting's best match in years, Angle/Joe (05/17) and Daniels/AJ (05/31) were up there too. Sacrifice was a definite thumbs up with a MOTYC in Aries/Ray, which has been praised plentifully here, and plenty of good in Angle/Styles, RVD/Roode and WTTCOTW vs. Magnus/Joe.

June wasn't as good, but TV was all live, so I guess that's a big plus. WTTCOTW vs. Angle/Styles (06/28) and Joe/Ray from the same show were the highlights as far as Impact goes. Slammiversary was the hottest PPV of the year, it's been covered in enough detail, erry'body knows what's good and what's bad about it. Aries/Joe is pushing for my TNA MOTY at present.

July was much improved as the BFG Series was in full swing. TV gave us plenty of real good matches literally on a weekly basis with decent time like Hardy/Storm (07/05), Angle/Anderson (07/12), Anderson/Styles (07/19), Roode/Aries (07/19), Styles/Storm (07/26) and Angle/Ray (07/26). Destination X had a lot of filler, but there was quality to be found in Styles/Daniels, Joe/Angle and certainly in Aries/Roode.

August kept the trend of good TV matches going strong. Aries/King vs. Roode/Ion (08/02) kicked the month off nicely. Angle/Styles (08/09) was one of their better encounters but ultimately will be forgotten. Styles/Daniels (08/16) felt unnecessary but was still plenty good. Joe/Styles (08/30) was short, snappy and full of quality, I miss this pairing. Hardcore Justice wasn't that great, especially in comparison to the previous two months, but Roode/Aries was awesome and the Ladder match had a nice mesh of action and comedy.

September concluded the BFG Series, and things kinda cooled down after that. Hardy/Joe (09/06) felt fresh, WTTCOTW vs. LAX 3.0 (09/06) got plenty of time was ended up being one of the better TV ME's this year. Ray/Aries (09/20) was decent, but doesn't hold a candle to their Sacrifice match. Aries/Hardy vs. Roode/Ray (09/27) should've been so much better given who's involved. Oh well. No Surrender wasn't too good. Hardy/Joe and Ray/Storm felt like TV matches with a touch of a little extra time. WTTCOTW vs. Angle/Styles was forgettable which is a shame considering it wasn't even bad, it just felt out of date. Hardy/Ray was a joke.

October was like an opposite of the previous month in that this time, the PPV outshone the TV. TV was mostly average and below in the build-up to BFG. Matches like Aries/Ray/Hardy (10/04) and Angle/Styles/Daniels (10/18) sounded better on paper than they actually were. However, BFG provided Storm/Roode and Hardy/Aries, two matches that I'm a lot higher on that most. Joe/Magnus and RVD/Ion were also really nice opening matches.

November hasn't been too eventful, unless something great happened on Impact last night since I haven't seen the show yet. Roode/Styles (11/08) and Roode/Storm (11/15) were both decent contests, but nothing more. Turning Point provided a whole bunch of 'average' apart from Hardy/Aries which tickled my fancy.

Re: Instant Classic: The Best Of Christian Cage DVD...Any good?

Nah no WWE footage, or WWE names or anything, but I think he talks about his friendship with Edge and how he got in to wrestling and everything, plus he just chats about other random stuff, there's a tour of his house, and then there's just a few bonus matches of him in TNA, 4 or 5 I think. Goes for 3 hours altogether. Might be some interviews of other guys too. So yeah I know a fair bit about what's on it, but I still wanna know if it's any good. Oh and I have never seen it in Australia, bet it's here somewhere though lol, but I would just get it on Ebay.

Thanks for the FR 06 review mate. I was thinking of buying the DVD, but it looks like the only highlights of that Pay-Per-View were Joe/Daniels and Sting/Christian vs Jarrett/Brown, so I'll just download those two matches. Much appreciated buddy.

You should watch and review Final Resolution 2005, it's one of the best PPVs TNA's ever produced.

Sacrifice 2007

Match 1: X-Title: Chris Sabin (c) vs Sonjay Dutt vs Jay Lethal
Tremendous Opener, and tons of cool spots. Sonjay was real star
Rating - ***3/4

Match 2: Robert Roode vs Jeff Jarrett
The heat for the match was really off the charts and this is the match that made Roode IMO.
Rating - ***1/4

Match 3: Christopher Daniels vs Rhino
Disappointing match, but Daniels proved why he is a ring general by dominating Rhino with smart strategy by attacking Rhino's injured arm. Finish was weak too, since they were building Daniels to a huge feud with Sting. I'm really pissed where this headed to because this was Daniels' last meaningful win
Rating - **

Match 4: Basham & Damaja vs VKM

Skip
Rating - DUD

Match 5: Texas Death: James Storm vs Chris Harris
Absolute show stealer. When was the last time you heard AJ Syles vs Samoa Joe wasn't the MOTN? Sick innovative spots and lot of blood and an epic ending to an epic feud. Both men were looked like superstars in this match, but TNA really screwed the huge push of Storm by feuding him with Black Reign, while Storm continues his nice slow push by improving his personality
Rating: ****1/2

Match 6: Alex Shelley vs Tiger Mask vs Senshi vs Jerry Lynn
Fast paced match with cool spots like Butterfly Superplex and sunset flip-German combo.
Rating: ***1/2

Match 7: NWA Tag Titles: Team 3D(c) vs LAX vs Steiner & Tomko
Surprisingly good. Steiner still got it. Stiff as hell match and it also showed that 3D's act has gotten stale with the fans.
Rating: ***

Match 8: AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe

Probably the worst PPV match between the two, but it was very good too. Just shows you how great these two guys are. AJ surprisngly dominated Joe for most of the match. BUt the finish was just out of nowhere since Joe hasnt used the Crossface Suplex since
Rating: ***1/2

Match 9: NWA World Title: Christian Cage (c) vs Sting vs Kurt Angle
Another good match with good phsyocology by Angle. Finish was absolute Russo and a bad ending to a great ppv
Rating: ***1/2

Conclusion: AWESOME PPV. It has everything. It has two spotfests, two technical matches (AJ/Joe, Daniels/Rhino), 3 Very good title matches, a match that had incredible crowd heat and a match that this PPV a must watch. Top to bottom, the best PPV of 2007 and quite simply the best in Russo's charge.

Slammiversary (2005)

1.) Shark Boy vs. Zach Gowen vs. Jerrelle Clark vs. Amazing Red vs. Elix Skipper vs. Delirious - **1/2
Insanely fast paced, spotty goodness. Clark was actually the most impressive out of the bunch. Great opener that got the crowd going.

2.) Shocker vs. Alex Shelley - ***
Nice technical wrestling match.

3.) Ron Killings vs. Kip James - *

Jeez, did the New age outlaws EVER have a good match since joining Tna...

4.)Tag titles - The Naturals vs. Team Canada - **1/2
Good tag action but a little on the average side. Great surprise at the end though.

5.) Dutt vs Joe - **3/4
Very significant moment in that this was Joe's debut. Good showcase and an above average debut for the current champ.

6.) Hoyt vs Roode - **1/2
A fine match but the show stealer was the after match antics of D'amore getting his pants pulled down and Tenay and Dw's reaction to it. "Children all around the world are scarred for life!" lol. Hoyt was over as hell on a ODB type of scale.

7.) AMW vs. 3Live Kru - *1/2
Read match #3...

8.) X division three way elimination - Sabin vs Daniels vs Bentley - ***3/4
Bentley kind of dragged down the quality a bit and you could really notice this as the action was alot better when it was Sabin vs Daniels. Started off spotty but got really good toward the end. The finish was a little abrupt but other than that a great x-division match.

9.) KOTM World title - Styles vs Monty vs Waltman vs Raven vs Abyss - ***3/4
Lots of memorable and amazing spots in this such as Aj doing a spiral tap to the outside through a table on Abyss, Waltman hitting an X-factor off the top of the ladder, Abyss getting pounced off the ladder into a table etc. Really fun chaotic match. I didn't really like the whole "making deals" thing that Aj and Waltman did, made the champ look like an idiot but a great ME regardless.

Overall a pretty good ppv, some duds (mostly involving 3live crew/NAO) but also some solid wrestling and 2 great matches towards the end.
