Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

Yeah, looking back Aries probably shouldn't have won the title. Was great at the time, but he was completely overshadowed for the most part with the Aces & Eights stuff. Could have had A&8 screw him out of the win at D-X, so he could have still got a rematch with Roode at HJ and then feuded with A&8 at the same time and having the same match with Gallows (was him, right?) at... whatever that PPV was between HJ and BFG or something .

I'll be happy when Storm wins the belt but I still disagree with Aries getting the belt. It was an awesome moment and it's absolutely propelled him up so I don't hate it, but the booking was bad. Yeah it was a surprise but they obviously had the plans for Storm and it kinda left him in limbo. Could've just had Aries work extended programs with Ray or Joe or Hardy or AJ so that he was always around the upper midcard before pulling the trigger, maybe even against Storm. At the time I couldn't disagree but with hindsight it totally sucked.
Only mentioned Kurt b/c I know he'll pop back up in there eventually. It's sad but true. Tags are the best case scenario for him. His role right now is fitting.

I really don't know what they had planned for Aries once the program vs Roode ended. All I can think of is:

~ TNA wanted to legitimize Aries so they made him champion and run with the championship.
~ TNA was gunning for Roode vs Storm at BFG all along, but decided to not have it be over the championship b/c Hardy's redemption was also already planned, ergo Aries as champ and eventual quick heel turn following the fresh face run that only fully began in about April.

It's all I can piece together. Plus, the company never having any desire to make Storm lead guy. Only a credible upper midcarder for whatever reason.

Posted my Unbreakable thread btw. Wrote a bit. Read it if you'd like, my fellow posters. Be kind with the flaming.

It wasn't an official match. Just a brawl. Meh. Aries brainbustered Knox. It owned. (spoilers, my bad.)

I posted the match in my thread...

Pft, youtube links. Like I wouldn't have that match on my hard drive.

But yeah, *****. I really struggled with giving it this time as opposed to the easy choice it used to be. I mean its great and I think it's better than something like Punk/Bryan OTL which is ****3/4. idk star ratings are iffy sometimes.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

I'd need to watch the triple threat again before commentating on it. Its on the Joe DVD, right? Always loved it, never thought it was ***** though and I'd absolutely put AJ/Joe TP 05 ahead of it as far as TNA matches go. Never was too fond of the tag cage match though. Haven't seen it in years. I recall them having a cage match before that too, back when they were still 4 sides, and I enjoyed that one more than the 6SOS.

It was a shameless plug.

Even if I remained at *****, I know I'd still take a match like Punker vs Danielson over it. That's purely on a personal level instead of a projected snowflakes assessment. I can say some matches get a higher rating, but I'll still take one that's lower over it. Make sense? Maybe not. It is me, after all.

First cage is great too. I HATE to sound nitpicky, but I think it was fair. I was going to give it ****1/2 till Harris fell off the top of the cage and nearly botched the finish of the match. He had to climb back up and hit the leg drop a second time. It's still really really good. I'll gladly take Turning Point '04 over it, of course.

STARZ

Triple X vs AMW Cage I ~ ****1/4
Triple X vs AMW Cage II ~ *****
AJ Styles vs Christopher Daniels vs Samoa Joe I ~ ***

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

Nah I get you. I'd take Joe Park vs Bully Ray over something like Aries vs Joe but I wouldn't rate it higher.

Speaking of Joe Park:

AJ Styles vs Abyss - Lockdown 05

This is my kind of match. David v Goliath goodness. Opening is top notch, AJ goes straight for Abyss since his speed is what he has to utilise over anything else. Busts out some awesome innovative offense going into the crowd and everything which I dig. Then goes to the well one too many times and Abyss begins to dominate. Holy shit @ the bumps AJ takes from the cage door btw, felt like I was watching Ziggler get nailed with a ladder. The way he just RAGDOLLS the black hole slam too. Abyss uses the cage really well in his offense and I think the timing in this is spot on with how he always blocks AJ's comebacks. Commentary annoyed me on the black hole slam nearfall since they just don't sell it and I didn't buy it as a possible finish when I usually should. Styles Clash is legit though. Would've preferred that to be the finish but the finish was still fun. V good cage match

****1/4

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

I don't know which of those I'd prefer. I guess it would depend on the mood I was in. I'd pick Park vs Bully over the fun tag championship match on the same show.

YES. Same rating on Styles vs Abyss. AJ's bumps from the cage door are legendary. Another infamous match from TNA. It's so special, Christian & Abyss recycled 50% of the match to create their own for Lockdown the following year.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

I'll take anything story driven over anything FUN I think. Well for now, it depends on my mood but it definitely swung that way some time last year. Thats probably why I dig things like Roode/Styles, Roode/Aries or Ray/Aries over that slammy tag. Although if you can combine the two like some Jericho/Eddie WCW match I caught last night then I'm all over it

Yeah I've got Christian/Abyss on my to-do list. It took me about 2 months after I actually bookmarked it to watch AJ/Abyss though so don't hold your breath
