TNA IMPACT 2010.03.08:

Ric Flair and AJ Styles vs Abyss and Hulk Hogan - N/R

X Division Title: Dougles Williams vs Kazarian vs Christopher Daniels - ***

Sting vs Rob Van Dam - DUD

Eric Young vs Sean Waltman - **

Beer Money vs Jeff Jarrett - **1/4

Hulk Hogan and Abyss vs Ric Flair and AJ Styles - *1/2

The opening segment was fine and served the purpose well. The X Divison match was lots of fun, really good match, Doug was great champ back then. It's funny that Kaz got his big push after all the story with the porno chick and Traci Brooks. So yeah, Sting vs RVD wasn't really a match and ended after 10 seconds but I HATED IT. First of all, why the fuck Sting lost so quickly in his return match? secondly Sting killed RVD for like four mins after the match. What an awesome way to bring back and debut your future world champion and challenger.

The Band/Young segment was hilarious. Not sure if it was a good thing. The match between Young and Waltman was fun, they really could've make Young looks like big deal after the feud but instead he came back to his old gimmick, gone, came back and now he's no longer there. Angle/Andesron segment was boring until Angle stopped sucking to the US army in Cena-type promo, so far I'm really enjoying their feud and Anderson's awesome. Beer Money vs Jeff Jarrett was maybe one of the best handicap matches I've seen, boy the Beer Money's reuinon (in my opinion this'll happen at BFG 2013 when they'll have nothing to do with them anymore) will be huge and mark out moment for me, they're so awesome.

To be honest, I didn't hated the Main Event. Sure it wasn't close to be call good or even decent, but they did what the needed to do to make this watchable. So yeah, the show was okay but didn't felt like it was the biggest night in TNA history as Hogan kept saying during the show.

Cal/Cody since you're both not that keen on Roode/Storm BFG would you say you prefer the Lockdown match? Iirc I think Cal was a fan of it back when it first went down. I think I like it more than most, probably ***3/4
***1/2 - Steel Cage
***3/4 - Street Fight

Only seen the Cage once though. I still have BFG downloaded so I've been able to revisit the Street Fight more times over.

@ the 3 Aries TV matches Rickey plugged. Got all 3 on DVD and they're really fun. Especially the singles vs Shelley. Their chemistry is so damn superb. 5 minute sprints or 15+ minute battles. They are always worth a watch.

Vaguely remember it. Think it was for the World Title? Recall it being a lot of fun with a bunch of interference of course. Kinda wish I could find it myself now...

It doesn't ring any bells for me. Only lengthy matches I remember that took up big chunks of time are the Styles vs Joe vs Sabin 3 way for the first ever Turkey Bowl in 2007 & the Steel Cage gauntlet match from 2009.

I'll take that with a grain of salt.

Getting the vibe that 3 way is awesome much like how someone would claim Chris Harris vs James Storm from Impact 6/7/07 is.

Turning Point 2012

Joe/Magnus was a neat little match, certainly good as an opener. I'm enjoying Joe's current reign although anything would be enjoyable after a year of Devon, EY and Robbie E holding the belt. I'm not quite sure what's going on with Joe's ring-gear, he looks like a fat action figure and there was nothing wrong with his classic gear. The MagDaddy put in a great effort here, his feud with Joe is probably his best singles work bar none. I love his elbow. That sounds weird. For a No DQ match, I appreciated them not going crazy with weapons like one might expect from the stipulation. Use a chair, simple and sweet. Joe...can do better but this was fine. Some new moves wouldn't hurt him at this point, and he shouldn't roll his eyes behind his head whilst choking, he's not Taker.

Jesse & Tara/EY & ODB was horrible. I hate mixed tags, and always will. EY isn't funny anymore, and I can't take him seriously in any role at this point. I'd rather if he just left TNA and stuck to his new show. Seemingly, that's what's happened now with A&8's, but knowing EY, he'll probably pop up again. Tara/Jesse look like they go to the same ring gear guy as Joe. There's so much RED in this PPV. The ropes, the attires, the title sequence, even the Knockout Tag-Titles (remember those?). It's all too much. Either way, the match sucked.

RVD/Joey Ryan wasn't half-bad. It felt more like a TV match. I'm not a huge Ryan fan going off what I've seen of him so far in TNA. The sleazy Ron Burgundy gimmick just doesn't appeal to me. Granted, he does take a good Frog-Splash, but other than that, nah. There's some sloppiness here and there in this match but it's nothing major. I'm liking RVD in the X-Division, it's a nice change. One more RVD/Anderson match and I think I'd die. The post match Morgan attack was cringeworthy, you'd think he'd get the message that nobody wants him as a champion of any sorts and just fuck off.

DOC/Joseph Park was your typical Joe Park affair. Nothing special in terms of match quality, but serious popcorn fun to watch. THAT chain whip at the start! I love the way he can pull a match off as if he's never taken a bump before in his life, I wonder if we'll ever get any progression in the 'Where the fuck is Abyss?' storyline. DOC looks beastly on his own, using that plastic-y looking hammer makes him look more like a pussy more than anything. Get rid of it, NOAW. DOC/Bully some time down the road should be awesome.

Kaz & Daniels/Chavo & Hernandez had too many bald people. I'll always be apathetic towards watching a Chavo match, what'dya know, there's the 3 amigoes AGAIN! Chavo & Hernandez float up shit creek. Kaz/Daniels deserve so much better. Gangnam Style skit was funny, but I don't want to become a permanent thing. Hernandez is gonna injure someone again, soon. I can feel it. The match was okay, but entirely forgettable. Their ME on Impact a while back was much better.

Storm/Roode/Styles wasn't what it should've been. Too much of the usual 2 in the ring, 1 on the wing formula. Roode/AJ have great chemistry all of a sudden, why couldn't they have been this good in their ME's last year?! I found it obvious from the beginning that Storm was winning, but I'm bored of him as a babyface now, he's missing that spark he had at the beginning of the year. I wish the match wasn't all moves and had a bit more story to it. Roode was the star here. AJ should use this storyline to take a break, he looks like he needs it.

Devon/Angle was dogshit. Angle needs someone to tame him, and clearly in no way, shape or form is Devon the guy to do that. There is no chemistry here, at all. It's like they just went out with the idea of taking turns with big moves. Best part of the match was DEVON'S SPEAR. I got a good laugh at the ending whenever Angle's celebrating and 5 members of A&8's are just standing there, looking somewhat wary. Vicious biker gang? I think not.

Aries/Hardy was easily MOTN. In an age where it feels like everything has been done in ladder matches, they managed to find some new material and I loved it. Aries has brought the best out of Hardy, who's starting to find his groove after a fairly mediocre year. Loads of nice spots, well-paced and it never reaches that stage that you get in some matches like this where everything comes across as a motion solely to set up the next spot. Probably the only match on this show that I can see myself rewatching for pleasure down the line.

It's odd. I really enjoyed Hardy vs Aries although I don't see myself rating it past where I have it now: ***. Maybe b/c I thought it was fitting of the term "popcorn match" more than I felt it was anything "omg this rules" kind of material that Aries has been used to getting all year. Another strong performance for him of course. I simply don't place it high on the snowflake meter is all.
