No Surrender. AAO had Aries vs Shelley. Which blew away every match at No Surrender.

Both were pretty meh, probably put No Surrender over AAO but I'd say these were the best matches from the 2 shows.

Daniels/Kaz vs. AJ/Angle from No Surrender
Zema Ion vs. Sonjay Dutt from No Surrender
Aries vs. Shelley from Against All Odds(best match out of the three)

You know you remember this.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

I agree with the opinions on Aries/Shelley being the single best match of both shows but I think No Surrender overall was a bit stronger than AAO. Even though it was fuckery at least I got good laughs at Hogan LOCKING DOWN THE IMPACT ZONE with the cops and all. I'm also not sour on Hardy's matches that even, particularly the main event with Bully. The Styles/Angle vs. Daniels/Kaz match was really good as always too. I really didn't enjoy much from AAO. It was a meh so for me. Maybe the weakest PPV offering from TNA this year.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

I think this is why both events are the first to be officially cut for next year.

Really disliked No Surrender. I know part of that is due to it being around a slew of good/entertaining/decent PPVs pumped out by TNA in the late spring/summer time of this year. You watch the 4 prior to it then that PPV comes around and completely misses the boat. Wasn't a fan.

Not to say Against All Odds was much better. It was a one match show. Rest was nothing worth discussing. Not even Styles vs Kazarian. Show started off with such a horrible omen too.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

1. X Championship: Austin Aries © vs. Kid Kash vs. Zema Ion vs. Jesse Sorensen

This was nice. We need to get more of these, like in good old days, but the X Division is almost dead, unfortunately. There was a lot of character work here, so this was not your generic cruiserweight sprint. Kash's heel schtick never gets old, and Aries was in his BOSS mode, of course, this is where his great year begun. Zema had his funny moments, and Jesse was just there, but not in a negative way. Too bad the show almost fell apart after this.

***

2. Devon vs. The Pope

Borderline garbage. Hopefully Devon's sons never turn pro wrestlers, and hopefully Dinero falls in a bottomless pit.

*1/2

3. RVD vs. Gunner

**

4. Knockouts Championship: Gail Kim © vs. Mickie James

**

5. MONSTER'S BALL: Abyss vs. Bully Ray

Didn't really like this. Disappointing. The match never peaked, and it had few too campy moments, not fitting into this kind of a match. The beginning was cool, with nice mind games, but it fell apart down the road. Not good, not even solid.

*1/2

6. World Tag Team Championship: Matt Morgan & Crimson © vs. Samoa Joe & Magnus

This is much better than I recall, Joe and Magnus showed their team potential here, and they displayed the mutual chemistry, despite being just a wild card team. They were better oiled up than Morgan and Crimson. Can't really complain about the Champs, because they were solid here, especially Morgan. I'm so happy the feud did not end here. Damn, Joe & Magnus ended their tag team adventure too quickly, TNA really rushed their break up.

***

7. Kurt Angle vs. James Storm

Solid, but nothing special. The opening minutes were really good, tbh, with Angle being scared to death from the LCS. That was good storytelling. But of course, the things turned into mediocrity down the road, nothing memorable there, and the ending was awkward. Their Impact blow-off was much better, IIRC.

**1/2

8. World Heavyweight Championship: Bobby Roode © vs. Jeff Hardy

The MOTN. I would go over three stars, but the finish really irked me, for ovious reasons. They overprotected Hardy, and Roode looked like a bitch yet again, plus we got another dusty finish that needs to be settled on TV. Overall, this was a really good main event, both guys worked hard, Hardy showed he can go far when he's motivated and ready, and Roode found his comfort zone for these matches. His control segments were compelling. The finishing stretch was really exciting, and the Hardy ringside fanboys were losing it, lol.

***

Solid show, saved by good main event. The opening 4-Way was good, but after that we got a big pile of painfully bad or mediocre at best wrestling. Then the last hour managed to display some decent 'rassling. The crowd almost completely sucked, the lack of energy was painful sometimes, only few matches got the people cheering and chanting.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

Fun. I was peaked to revisit Genesis myself. Now that it's a hot topic atm, I should get on it asap so we can discuss and COMPARE~! So, yeah I'll see what I can do. That is unless the mass order of TNA dvds don't come soon. Then idk what the hell is in store for me to watch. So much TNA, so little time.

(I say this as I had a massive WWE cram session today.)

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

AAO and NS were as bad as each other. They were both just really mediocre shows with a decent match or two. When it first happened, I had Aries/Shelley at ****1/4. Definitely wouldn't have it that high now, it's probably a ***1/2 match in my eyes now.

Speaking of Aries, I was watching some shizz from the beginning of his current TNA tenure earlier today.

Austin Aries vs. Jimmy Rave vs. Kid Kash - 06/13/11
So, this was the first of those qualifying matches for the match at DX where one could earn a contract in TNA and it's so refreshing that none of the other qualifying matches could live up to it. When you've got 3 properly talented guys in the ring like you do here, it's hard to come up with crap. But for a mere 5 minutes, it's completely balls to the wall action, in a good way too. Before this, the X-Division was lacking a spark, and this is the match that lit the fire in the X-Division again, albeit just for a few months until Aries moved on to bigger and better things. Kash looked so impressive here that he actually gained himself a contract regardless of any outcomes. Rave definitely looked the weaker of the 3, and I feel that he should've ditched his Rock'N'Rock-Guitar Hero persona for this. Aries was the standout star here, by a million miles. He looked motivated, in-gear and ready to make an impression and that's exactly what he did.

Austin Aries vs. Shannon Moore - 07/11/11
This was Aries' first match officially under contract since DX. It doesn't even reach the 4 minute mark but for what it is, it's still fun. Nothing amazing quality wise, just popcorn wrestling more than anything, short and sweet, know what I mean? Moore looked impressive here, for once, if he'd pulled out performances like this throughout his entire TNA tenure, he might still have a contact. This was pretty much just a match to show that Aries' could compete with the official X-Division roster and establish his heel character. Get him over with the TV crowd and such. Once again, he's elegant and entertaining to watch, it just feels like this sort of moves-y match doesn't suit him the best. A slower pace with some more time, and this would've been a whole lot better.

Austin Aries vs. Alex Shelley - 07/26/11 (Aired 08/03/11)
Another short and sweet match pitting the two challengers for Kendrick's X-Title against each other. Shelley wasn't pleased about Aries' antics against Moore, using the chain, and that leads to this. You'd think they could've come up with something a little better than that. Either way, these two have great chemistry and it's easy to see why TNA paired them up so many times in 06/07 and again in 11/12. Once again, this was to establish Aries' to the audience more than anything and Shelley is a much better opponent to earn a rep against than Moore. The action is like you'd expect, moves-y but it's not as bad for it as the Moore match. There's some comedy here with Aries' trying to use the spikes on Shelley's jacket to attack him with and Hebner falls on his ass in a little kerfuffle. The low blow in the finishing sequence had a great sound to it, love the way Aries' kicks come across so well. Shelley takes a brainbuster like a champ, everybody hates Aries but loves him at the same time. Even here, there was aura surrounding him of being a potentially big deal in the future.

I re-watched the Aries/Hardy ladder match too. It might be my favourite Hardy match in TNA. Those 20 minutes just flew by. ***3/4? idk

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

I'd agree w/ ***3/4. I think I bumped down the BFG match to something like ***1/4 on a second watch. AAO Aries/Shelley was still awesome for me, ****1/4.

Cal/Cody since you're both not that keen on Roode/Storm BFG would you say you prefer the Lockdown match? Iirc I think Cal was a fan of it back when it first went down. I think I like it more than most, probably ***3/4

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

I preferred their Lockdown match for sure. Had some awkward moments and an absolutely dead crowd, but there was plenty of great stuff. Finish was awesome too. ***3/4 for it as well.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

Anyone ever see the Angle/Cage/Rhino 3-Way that went like 40 minutes and took up an entire episode of Impact? I've an interest in watching it but can't find it online.
