Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
TNA 2012 eh? I'll go month by month just so I can cover all bases, somewhat. My use of the "/" thing can get out of control at times, but whatever.
January was actually pretty good match-wise. On TV, Roode/Hardy (01/12), Storm/Angle(01/12) and Storm/Hardy(01/19) were all pretty good and got a decent amount of time. Nobody remember Storm/Hardy vs. Roode/Ray (01/26) in their tables match? Really liked it at the time. Genesis gave us okay versions of Roode/Hardy and Storm/Angle, but I recall them being no better or worse than the TV matches. I wasn't a fan of Monster's Ball.
February gave us the Wembley shows. Remember those? We got a rushed version of Roode/Storm (02/02), but I preferred Storm/Ray from the same show. Daniels/AJ (02/09) was decent, but was old then and is ancient now. Sting/Storm vs. Roode/Ray from 02/09 was memorable for the piping hot crowd, they fucking LOVED Sting. Roode/Hardy had another decent match on 02/16 but was done and dusted by then. AAO was pretty bleh, I loved Aries/Shelley when it happened but it's fallen down the pecking order with rewatches. Kaz/AJ was forgettable, and the only memorable thing about Roode/Storm/Hardy was the finish.
March was pretty shit. On TV, we got a really great 6-man in the form of Magnus/Joe/Storm vs. Aries/Roode/Ray (03/01), the match went like 17 minutes or something too, definitely worth re-watching. TV provided little else unfortunately, but there's an okay Aries/Storm vs. Roode/Ray tag from 03/29. Victory Road? Wasn't a huge fan. Aries/Ion was good but just that, Styles/Anderson vs. Kaz/Daniels was random as fuck, Angle/Hardy is their best work and Roode/Sting felt too wacky.
April was a big improvement. TV provided really good/great matches in Hardy/Angle (04/05), Storm/Styles (04/05), Ray/Devon (04/26) and Magnus/Joe vs. Hardy/Anderson (04/26). Lockdown was a bit of a letdown, I preferred Storm/Styles to anything on the PPV. Lethal Lockdown sucked. MCMG vs. Magnus/Joe was average enough, but better than Hardy/Angle. Roode/Storm was really good but was never going to meet anyone's expectations.
May? MAY! Fabulous month. TV gave us a MOTYC in Styles/Roode (05/24), Sting/Roode (05/31) was probably Sting's best match in years, Angle/Joe (05/17) and Daniels/AJ (05/31) were up there too. Sacrifice was a definite thumbs up with a MOTYC in Aries/Ray, which has been praised plentifully here, and plenty of good in Angle/Styles, RVD/Roode and WTTCOTW vs. Magnus/Joe.
June wasn't as good, but TV was all live, so I guess that's a big plus. WTTCOTW vs. Angle/Styles (06/28) and Joe/Ray from the same show were the highlights as far as Impact goes. Slammiversary was the hottest PPV of the year, it's been covered in enough detail, erry'body knows what's good and what's bad about it. Aries/Joe is pushing for my TNA MOTY at present.
July was much improved as the BFG Series was in full swing. TV gave us plenty of real good matches literally on a weekly basis with decent time like Hardy/Storm (07/05), Angle/Anderson (07/12), Anderson/Styles (07/19), Roode/Aries (07/19), Styles/Storm (07/26) and Angle/Ray (07/26). Destination X had a lot of filler, but there was quality to be found in Styles/Daniels, Joe/Angle and certainly in Aries/Roode.
August kept the trend of good TV matches going strong. Aries/King vs. Roode/Ion (08/02) kicked the month off nicely. Angle/Styles (08/09) was one of their better encounters but ultimately will be forgotten. Styles/Daniels (08/16) felt unnecessary but was still plenty good. Joe/Styles (08/30) was short, snappy and full of quality, I miss this pairing. Hardcore Justice wasn't that great, especially in comparison to the previous two months, but Roode/Aries was awesome and the Ladder match had a nice mesh of action and comedy.
September concluded the BFG Series, and things kinda cooled down after that. Hardy/Joe (09/06) felt fresh, WTTCOTW vs. LAX 3.0 (09/06) got plenty of time was ended up being one of the better TV ME's this year. Ray/Aries (09/20) was decent, but doesn't hold a candle to their Sacrifice match. Aries/Hardy vs. Roode/Ray (09/27) should've been so much better given who's involved. Oh well. No Surrender wasn't too good. Hardy/Joe and Ray/Storm felt like TV matches with a touch of a little extra time. WTTCOTW vs. Angle/Styles was forgettable which is a shame considering it wasn't even bad, it just felt out of date. Hardy/Ray was a joke.
October was like an opposite of the previous month in that this time, the PPV outshone the TV. TV was mostly average and below in the build-up to BFG. Matches like Aries/Ray/Hardy (10/04) and Angle/Styles/Daniels (10/18) sounded better on paper than they actually were. However, BFG provided Storm/Roode and Hardy/Aries, two matches that I'm a lot higher on that most. Joe/Magnus and RVD/Ion were also really nice opening matches.
November hasn't been too eventful, unless something great happened on Impact last night since I haven't seen the show yet. Roode/Styles (11/08) and Roode/Storm (11/15) were both decent contests, but nothing more. Turning Point provided a whole bunch of 'average' apart from Hardy/Aries which tickled my fancy.
