Re-watched this match as well last night (TNA rush I guess) and Roode's psychology throughout the match working on Aries' ribs was great. You can tell how hard both men work to have a great wrestling match. I still prefer the Destination X match.

Also took another look at Roode/Styles from 5/24 and it is my TNA TV MOTY. The best match between these two by far imo. The missile dropkick AJ did in the finishing stretch and the way he sold it was immense. I like the finish too in how Daniels/Kaz were in his head without physically being there led to his downfall. Roode was great as well trying to put Styles down with everything he has. I agree with Shepard on this being considered for MOTY overall.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

I'd have to watch the match again, but I don't think I'd put it above the first Henry/Punk Raw match as far as TV MOTY goes. Definitely the TNA TV MOTY though. I'd probably put Sheamus/Bryan Raw match ahead of it too. Agree with the love of the story for the match with AJ clearly being affected by Kaz and Daniels and in the end the mind games get the better of him and they didn't even need to make an appearance to screw him.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

Actually Cal, I agree with you there. Sometimes it's hard remembering all the TV matches of the year from both companies with so much programming every week!

As for the World Title main event at BFG '12, again, I loved the character work Aries throughout the match playing with the crowd (he had two quality promos that evening too) and with Hardy but I also loved his focused attack on Hardy's back and neck throughout the match. It was on-point until the closing moments of the match. In the beginning Aries was getting into Hardy's head but in the end Hardy's resiliency got Aries frustrated and he slipped up trying to pull something off desperately and Hardy got his redemption. That was solid storytelling. Aries looked like a million bucks in this match and I'm sure he will hold the World Title again but they had a HOT crowd for the final stretch and deliver a great main event.

I kinda like that they went in a different direction than the usual "Enforcer gets involved and costs the heel the match" His reactions to the brutality was the point I think, like when Storm and Roode were beating each other with trash can lids and blood was flying everywhere. They did quick zoom of his face and him looking like " is this real life!?"

Speaking of Hardy vs. Aries(BFG), I loved how the crowd started to turn like halfway in the match. It was mostly pro Aries then it started to switch to a 50/50 split crowd then the crowd just started cheering regardless because the action started to pick up. Yeah I know Hardy did get some boos.

Another thing I liked about that feud is the fact that Hardy never talked down to Aries even though Aries is smaller than him. He never took him for granted, he always took him seriously. Aries looked really strong in both matches with Hardy, especially the BFG one with him throwing Hardy around the ring like a rag doll.

Both men busting out 'new' moves had me too. Like when Hardy hit the Alleyoop on Aries and when Aries hit that top rope Frankensteiner on Hardy. Then the ladder match was innovative too. Twist of Fate on the ladder on top of the turnbuckle, Hardy being wedged in between the ladder was cringe worthy and then Aries raising the belts up so Hardy couldn't reach them was a genius heel tactic. "YOU AIN'T NEVER GETTING THOSE FUCKING BELTS HARDY!"

You know you remember this.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

There are people that prefer the HJ Aries/Roode to DX? Surprising to me. The ref shenanigans in Roode/Aries brought it down from their DX match (which I thought was really a perfect match for a title switch), but the HJ match is still great.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

TNA iMPACT 2010.03.04:

MCMG vs Generation Me vs Beer Money vs Morgan/Hernandez - *3/4

Sean Morley vs Jeff Jarrett - N/R

Rob Terry vs Douglas Williams - DUD

Jeff Jarrett vs Tomko - Skipped.

TNA World Championship: Desomned Wolf vs AJ Styles vs The Pope vs Abyss - *1/2

So yeah, the wasn't good. There was like 10 segments with Hogan and Bischoff and four for the other wrestlers. The matches were nothing special. The opener looked great on paper but it was only three minutes so this couldn't be even good. The idea of Morley vs Jarrett is good (even if I have no idea why Bischoff hates Jarrett so much, I thought he's a face to be honest, can someone explain this to me?) but the match wasn't good or something because it was more about Morley sqaushing Jarrett.. I have no idea why Morley won if he got fired right after this show lol. Anderson's promo was great and so far I'm really enjoying his feud with Angle and I remember loving their match at Lockdown. Terry vs Williams wasn't a match but I gave it DUD because DOUGLAS WILLIAMS jobbed to ROB TERRY in one minute. Boy Tomko was fat as hell here. Main Event was another match that looked great on paper but due the booking it didn't. The match was only seven minutes of Styles working on Pope's leg. Meh. Overall show was pretty bad with so many segments with Hogan and his friends telling him to not wrestle at the next show. Eh, I hope the 03/08 show will be better since it's live and I think they'll bring the good stuff.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

Shows like that are perfect examples of when I tell people that TNA has improved substantially this year and they don't believe me. Storylines are far from perfect, but the in-ring aspect is so much more enjoyable in comparison to a 2007 - 2011. It's not even fair to compare.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

Another thing I dig about Roode/AJ is his limbwork. Clique mentioning Roode working Aries ribs made me think as to how he's constantly going over AJ's arm and not giving him a second to breath after nearfalls by going for the crossface/armbar. I wanna rewatch it now

I need to check this out. I think the BFG series put out another good-great Storm/Styles match (or it at least had one of them in for sure. Might have even been Storm/Ray)

***1/2. It's really good. Finish is a tad on the schmoz side. Although, I don't loathe it or anything. Destination X is the superior. In all aspects, imo.

As for the Slammiversary Tag Team Championship match, I'm at ***1/2 - ***3/4 on it. Kurt really is better in tag team matches I'd say. That hot tag sequences is perfect for the way he works matches.

Link me to Roode/Styles 5/24/12 if you got it, Shep. It might be on Dailymotion, but it sure isn't on youtube.

Am I the only one who's realized that TNA isn't even trying with the upcoming Final Resolution PPV? I mean what is there to look forward to now besides the (hopefully) FINAL Styles vs Daniels match where Daniels might actually win. This could be the most throwaway build for a PPV. At least from this year. And Victory Road was really bad too.
