Wasn't this the match that included Daniels saying something along the lines of "If AJ's wife and kids are watching this I'd advise them to leave the room because I'm about to kill him." mid match? If so I marked out for that part when I was watching it live. Always thought that was really awesome. I haven't watched it since and don't remember anything except that part.

Finally watched it. TNA hit on all cylinders with this one. The questions were answered, matches that were expected to deliver did, and it gave you a good bit of everything. More importantly, nothing was a flat out train-wreck on this and that helped the flow come nicely. Sure the knockouts match was nothing worth seeing, but it was small potatoes compared to all the other stuff that was much more important. That opener might be the best one in TNA history. Bound For Glory 2005's opener finally got stiff competition.

Hailcody.

I finally got round to watching a bunch of stuff today which I'd been putting off:

Lockdown 2010: Kurt Angle vs. Mr. Anderson

I think I've only ever seen this once and that would've been sometime in 2010 but iirc I remember being a fan. Wonder how that holds up. Laughed at Angle coming out and his titantron saying "GREATEST WRESTLER IN THE WORLD" though, don't ever remember that.
Match starts out fun, Anderson has the key and tries to cheap shot Kurt and go for the escape quickly, and then when Kurt turns it around he wants to stay locked in. Kurt kinda gets busted open out of nowhere though and Anderson moves up the punishment. Then there's probably my favourite bit of work in the whole match where Kurt manages to knock down Anderson in desperation and just crawls over to the door to try and escape instead of his earlier strategy. Anderson gets busted open too, although I totally missed it. Finishing stretch is kinda meh, Anderson goes for the mic check too much, only ONE Angle slam was a nice surprise though, cancelled out by SIX germans. Legit cringed at the moonsault, looked awful imo. Angle throws away the key too only to brandish one of his own soon after (idk) and it finishes after he chokes Kennedy out as revenge for Kennedy doing the same earlier on. Okay match, certainly nothing spectacular or worthy of being "The Best Cage Match Ever" which I've heard mentioned. Think I had this @ 4 stars before but I'm gonna knock it down a half.

***1/2

AJ Styles vs Doug Williams, TV Title - Final Resolution 2010

Solid match from solid workers, based around finishers and stuff (which was nice as their respective finishers tend to actually yknow, finish a match). Didn't really feel it had enough in it for me to give it 4 stars but nevertheless was a fun time killer.

***3/4

Final Resolution 2005: The Ultimate X - Petey Williams vs AJ Styles vs Chris Sabin

Petey OWNS in this. There's a stretch after D'Amore gets thrown out where everything Petey does is just incredibly crisp and awesome to see and you can tell how hard he's trying to keep holding onto his longest reigning record. D'Amore was pretty great for what little he was in, always liked Team Canada. I totally forgot about AJ's frontflip bump in this too, so that was nice to see. AJ took a few nasty hits, really liked his arm being worked over by Petey and Sabin since I'm a sucker for limbwork and little touches like that. Finishing stretch is pretty brutal for all guys involved, and the finish was nice. Probably my favourite Ultimate X

Yep... Daniels was fucking hilarious.

I'm working my way to Final Resolution 2010 atm. With Williams vs Styles dream match being the one I got to see.

Never saw Angle/Anderson cage yet. Hate Anderson so i'm lukewarm going in.

I think Anderson probably puts in the better performance of the two in the match tbh. I mean it's a pretty basic heel dominance performance but his reactions and expressions to Angle are pretty solid and it does a decent enough job of putting Kurt over as a legit tough guy. Plus he tells a decent enough story of starting out desperate to get out before slowly building in confidence and not leaving when he could which ultimately leads to his downfall. He's 10x better than Anderson of today, which is hardly difficult I suppose but still.

I'm gonna work through Aries' 2012 work hopefully this week. Really excited to see how the Roode matches and the Ray match from Sacrifice hold up. iirc he's yet to have a really bad match that I've seen (didn't catch No Surrender though).

Wouldn't really call that a match, just a brawl. So yeah, done nothing bad this year.

On the topic of Angle/Anderson, their cage match was fucking epic watching it live when it aired. Haven't seen it since then but I was amazed at the storytelling and they had some big time spots in there. Think I went I went at least **** 1/4 on it. Lockdown 2010 as a whole was pretty damn entertaining, even that Team 3D/Outsiders match.

The biggest problem with Angle/Anus (aside from Taz and Tenay) was that fucking key(?!), I mean, Angle threw it away, then he pulled it out of his trunks... I mean, was there just one key, or two, idk... But yeah, it was a damn epic match. Anderson's heel run was excellent then.

^Haven't seen the match in a while but I thought Angle only pretended to throw the key away.

Yeah the key thing got me. Rickey's explanation probably makes sense but judging by how excited Tenay got I assumed the throw was legit. It's not like they couldn't have just had him climb over the cage anyway.

And oh god, Taz and Tenay. They were abysmal. Just no reaction to anything, at all. Going from that to Don West in the 05 Ultimate X probably made it even worse. Give me JB over Taz anyday.

Anyhoo:

Against All Odds 2012 : Austin Aries vs Alex Shelley

This was awesome. Really fun and really quick paced all the way through without feeling that spotty. There was just lots of little things I noticed which were great, like Aries being a dick coming back to bite him on the ass, mocking Shelley's groggy punches or milking the pendulum elbow (liked the touch of him going for it quickly the second time). The under the ring spot was fun and I rarely see that kind of thing which was a bonus. Shelley was a great babyface counterpart too and the fact they only had one singles PPV match this year is criminal. Finishing stretch was the highlight though, all the nearfalls were pretty believable, especially since I forgot the finish leading into this and there was definitely one where I thought it was done. Probably Aries' best title defense.
