Pretty decent PPV overall. It's better now on a re-watch. Hernandez/Morgan was the MOTN, it was a perfectly booked Escape The Cage clash. The Fortune tag, Flair/Lethal, The Guns/Money and the main event were all great matches, but there were two huge stinkers (3-Way and the KO's match) and two solid but mediocre matches in Doug/Kendrick and Angle/Pope. The Ultimate X gimmick was totally unnecessary, and the match would've been miles better with the Submission Only gimmick.
Anyway, thumbs up.
Granted I have not seen the show since attending, but I thought that match was beyond awful. Those two had horrendous chemistry, much like Morgan vs. almost anybody.

What did people think of Styles/Roode from Impact Thursday? I liked it more than their two PPV ME's from November/December last year.

Styles/Roode-Impact 5/24/12-****

Spectacular TV main event and probably better than PPV main event TNA has had all year. Also might be Roode's best title defense to date as well, it's right there with the match with Storm from Lockdown.

It was an awesome match. A perfect playing of "Escape" gimmick and great character work from Morgan. Hernandez did good with his SuperMex gimmick. ***1/2, MOTN.

I'll just chime in with my thoughts...

AJ Styles vs. Bobby Roode - iMPACT 05/24/12
This was really good actually, a lot better than I'd expected for some reason. I wasn't a big fan of their two PPV matches at the tail end of last year but this one felt a lot different. You've got the really neat dynamic of Roode needing to win to be crowned the longest reigning champion in TNA history and then you've got AJ who currently holds that record, takes pride in it, and would love to have the title back. So yeah, great little setting. It's executed nicely too and they play up both guys knowing eachother so well from the Fortune days. Couple of nice counters here and there, tidy armwork, can't complain really. I thought it was a great little touch that Roode clamped on a crossface a second after getting a nearfall, not giving AJ any time to breathe. Little things like that always tick my boxes. In an ideal world, I'd love to have seen the match without the two commercial breaks but whatever. Roode's celebration afterwards with his confetti flown in from Canada and bottles of champers was top notch.

I'm with Rickeey on Roode/AJ, maybe slightly higher. **** and a really fun match. Roode's armwork was great, AJ made it look even better and the psychology of Daniels/Kazarian getting into his head after Sacrifice was played really well and ultimately lead to his downfall. In a way I'm almost sad something this fun for a TV main event didn't get to be on the first live impact.

Went back and watched Kurt Angle vs Jeff Hardy at Victory Road this year again. Keeping my rating at ***1/4. I tried to like this, I really did. But from the get go where Taz mentioned on commentary Angle might go for the legs to ground Hardy I had my doubts. The opening bit is a fun little collection of exchanges right until Jeff takes a bump on the guard rail. I saw Kurt take a couple shots on Jeff's legs and ankle but I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up. Still it was a better than usual match. Then the finish just lost me. Twist of Fate, goes for a Swanton and Kurt miraculously jumps up and belly to bellys Jeff. Kurt then takes another two twist of fates (which are both met by mild reactions from Tenay and Taz as well, adding even less to the nearfalls) before Jeff finally hits the swanton but Kurt rolls him up for the screwy finish going into Lockdown. I think I had this on par with the Lockdown match, maybe slightly behind. I'm not really in any hurry to catch it though to double check. I might go watch Aries/Bully and Aries/Shelley again and put some proper ratings on them.

AJ/Daniels-Impact 5/31-***1/4

Very good TV main event, not as good as Roode/AJ from last week but still some great stuff. These two obviously have tremendous chemistry and they've had better matches for sure, but I thought it was a really fun little match with a great finish.

Random re-watch:

Bully Ray vs. Austin Aries (TNA, Sacrifice 2012)

Story. Characters. Structure. Mind games. This match had all of those elements in high quantity, combine it with some great and stiff action, and you get a MOTYC, easily. This was perfect for 13 minutes only, and it's a shame their feud ended here, because with 4-5 more minutes, these two could reach five stars, IMO. Both guys played their characters to perfection. This is TNA's MOTY so far, it's slightly better than Angle/Hardy from Victory Road.
Rating: ****

Top 5 in 2012:

1. Bully Ray vs. Austin Aries (Sacrifice) ****
2. Kurt Angle vs. Jeff Hardy (Victory Road) ****
3. James Storm vs. AJ Styles (Impact, 4/5/2012) ***1/2
4. Austin Aries vs. Alex Shelley (AAO) ***1/2
5. Bobby Roode vs. AJ Styles (Impact, 5/24/2012) ***1/2

All the talk of Sabin probably leaving got me wanting to check some of his stuff out, so I chucked this on.

Chris Sabin vs. Christopher Daniels - Genesis 2006
God, I do love heel Sabin. He's one of those heels that can do all the crowd-pleasers but simply doesn't just to spite them. But then, he'll break some of it out when he needs to. Daniels is Daniels, he's pretty much always good-great. Sabin works the head really well, Daniels breaks out a curb-stomp and some crazy dive, AJ Styles interferes because everyone in the X-Division hates Sabin. There's tonnes of sweet-looking althetic-y stuff and the match works well forwarding the "Sabin's a disrespectful arse" storyline" but I don't think the storyline had any matches better than this. By this stage, the division was dwindling down in significance and this was probably the last really good X-Division match for a year at least, unless I'm forgetting something, but it feels like that anyway.

****

I don't know if I posted this here or not but whatever, on the subject of Aries/Ray;

Austin Aries vs. Bully Ray - Sacrifice 2012
Great match, I was expecting good things from these two, and they delivered. That bump that Aries took into the guard-rail early on was fucking mental. It was actually cringe-worthy seeing the bruises and cuts on his back. Wackiest bump of the night, probably. Ray's back work looked good, Aries' selling was believable, especially with his mangled spine. Bully Ray really does just have his character down to a tee, you get the sense that he's just like this in real life. I could've done without the Joseph Parks stuff but thankfully it didn't last long. Aries comeback was a real feel-good moment, especially when he hit the Brainbuster since it'd been built up as to whether or not he could actually hit it. Honestly, a few years ago, who would've thought that Bully Ray would be having matches like this? Not me anyway. Best TNA match this year? Maybe. Top 5 anyway.

Hey guys got a question.
Now I know that all the TNA dvd's in Europe and the United States are region free. Is that the same in Australia or are they really region 4 there? Need to know since I want to order something of a Australian website.
