Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
I don't remember much about TNA 08 other than I really started to hate the company at the time lol. Wasn't watching it on a regular basis by 08, and completely stopped before the end of the year .

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
This point they still had lots of wrestlers that I liked but I think the storylines started really going downhill.
Kevin Nash was Joe's manager. Can't say I remember this.
Edit: Cide and Hernandez were AWESOME back then.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Sacrifice 2012
Joe/Magnus vs Kaz/Daniels - Missed the first half of this, gonna rewatch. Seemed like a good opener though.
Brooke vs Gail - *3/4
Devon vs Robbie E vs Robbie Y - **
Anderson vs Hardy - **1/4
Crimson vs EY - Dud. (I honestly didn't pay that much attention to it)
Aries vs Bully Ray - ***1/2-***3/4
Angle vs AJ - ***
Roode vs RVD - ***
Enjoyable B ppv overall though, last three matches did well. AJ Angle started well but towards the end it just descended into a usual Angle match of finishers and moonsaults and an ankle lock despite him working AJ's back all match. Roode/RVD was okay too, Roode did well I thought. I'll probably give the show a rewatch though and see how it all holds up. Particularly the tag match and Aries/Ray.

you rated aj vs angle the same as roode vs rvd? Odd, that botch was just ugly looking. Normally i can deal with a few botches, but the RVD ladder thing was horrendous.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
eh, it might change on a rewatch but im not that high on Angle in the first place and I was enjoying the ladder match up until the finish. The botch was bad but they managed to recover. Van Dam taking that chair shot was just nasty though, and they kept replaying it for some reason

I heard Aries took a nasty bump against Bully. Gonna give this show a look tomorrow. Angle/AJ, the opener and Bully/Aries interest me.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
I've been in late Ric Flair mood recently, so I decided to watch his (as of this date) last PPV match, against Jay Lethal at Victory Road '10.
All things considered, it's quite entertaining. I was obviously pissed when Flair broke his retirement to wrestle in TNA, but my rationale is that in comparison to WWE, TNA is like a house show. I can look at his match against Michaels as his "Retirement" match, even though a few follow after.
Of all the WWE/WCW cast-offs to go to TNA, Flair really has had a great run. He's gone back to being an old-fashioned heel, which works well for him.
The buildup to this match was just a blast. Lethal doing a dead-on impersonation of Flair, the classic "woo" off, so much fun.
The match itself is simple but entertaining. Flair is still in amazing shape, kept his hair shorter so it didn't get too messy, and can perform better than anyone ever could at 60. He takes bumps amazingly well.
The match never lets up. Lethal flies around, Flair chops away. The ending is simple but effective. Would I have rather Flair stayed retired? Absolutely. But if he's going to wrestle, it's a good thing his last PPV match was as much fun as this one.

Austin Aries vs. Bully Ray - Sacrifice 2012
Great match, I was expecting good things from these two, and they delivered. That bump that Aries took into the guard-rail early on was fucking mental. It was actually cringe-worthy seeing the bruises and cuts on his back. Wackiest bump of the night, probably. Ray's back work looked good, Aries' selling was believable, especially with his mangled spine. Bully Ray really does just have his character down to a tee, you get the sense that he's just like this in real life. I could've done without the Joseph Parks stuff but thankfully it didn't last long. Aries comeback was a real feel-good moment, especially when he hit the Brainbuster since it'd been built up as to whether or not he could actually hit it. Honestly, a few years ago, who would've thought that Bully Ray would be having matches like this? Not me anyway. Best TNA match this year? Maybe. Top 5 anyway.
A.J Styles vs. Kurt Angle - Sacrifice 2012
This match was weird. Normally with these two, they're both going a million miles a minute. But this one was slower, a lot slower (by AJ/Angle standards), I don't want to say more methodical because it wasn't. Better paced maybe? At first, it certainly seemed like that but the crowd didn't really know how to react to it, and neither did I really. The opening with all the amateur-y shtick was cool, I'm a mark for that stuff. There was one stiff as fuck powerbomb from AJ, a couple of nice counters, but everything else was just 'there'. Oh yeah, TNA really need to sort out their camera angles. I lost count of the amount of times they zoomed in on Angle's face when he was talking to AJ. Things like that just take me completely out of a match. It's like why should I bother suspending belief after that? There's much worse and much better matches between these two, it's a real middle of the road match.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
X Championship
Doug Williams © vs. Brian Kendrick **1/2
Brother Ray vs. Jesse Neal vs. Brother Devon *
Knockout's Championship
Madison Rayne © vs. Angelina Love *1/4
AJ Styles & Frankie Kazarian vs. Samoa Joe & Rob Terry ***
Cage Match
Hernandez vs. Matt Morgan ***1/2
Ric Flair vs. Jay Lethal ***1/4
World Tag Team Championship (vacant)
The MCMG vs. Beer Money ***1/4
Kurt Angle vs. The Pope **1/2
World Heavyweight Championship
RVD © vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Mr. Anderson vs. Abyss ***
Pretty decent PPV overall. It's better now on a re-watch. Hernandez/Morgan was the MOTN, it was a perfectly booked Escape The Cage clash. The Fortune tag, Flair/Lethal, The Guns/Money and the main event were all great matches, but there were two huge stinkers (3-Way and the KO's match) and two solid but mediocre matches in Doug/Kendrick and Angle/Pope. The Ultimate X gimmick was totally unnecessary, and the match would've been miles better with the Submission Only gimmick.
Anyway, thumbs up.
