Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

Much like his days in ECW, WCW, & WWF, Raven does know his way around a fun brawl or two. The majority of his TNA career is just that, fun & quite entertaining.

Oh forgot to mention the out of nowhere awesome Monster's Ball tag from Slammiversary 2009. Raven & Daffney vs Abyss & Taylor Wilde.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

Raven is the fucking man. One of the best storytellers (therefore - wrestlers) ever, he was THE fucking boss inside the ring. He was so fucking creative, just give him... anything. Sure, many of his stuff has that one stupid spot or detail that takes away from logic and match quality in star ratings state of mind, but from a pure entertainment value - it's timeless and pure gold.

If had a company, Raven would be a head booker and writer.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

I think the guy shined for the majority of his career all over. Granted his WWF run was his honest to science weakest (as Raven). TNA was no different in terms of him keeping his character, just about the same thing, fresh and good.

His debut in TNA owned. Stealing the NWA World Title? Talk about debuting big. TNA used their brains, once upon a time, and realized that he could/should be a main event level worker. Went from being banished to Heat, literally, in WWE to going to TNA and making all of those jobber months disappear. Looking at the timeline too he really didn't take very long to get the World Championship push. Hell, I am still surprised he got it. And got a nice go around with it at that. Tied up the loose ends from what should have been in a generally successful WCW run.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

Doing a Match of the Decade project with a few other people, and I'm a little rusty on what the hell to watch from TNA before 09 . So if anyone could help me out by posting matches I should check out (with dates please, makes it easier for me to find them and to make sure I watch certain matches in order ), I'd certainly appreciate it .

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

TNA Lockdown 2010

Rob Van Dam vs. James Storm - **3/4

XScape Match: Brian Kendrick vs. Homicide vs. Chris Sabin vs. Alex Shelly - **

Kevin Nash vs. Eric Young - *1/2

TNA KO & Tag Titles: Angelina Love & Tara vs. Madison Rayne & Velvet Sky - **

TNA X Division Title: Kazarian vs. Shannon Moore vs. Homicide - ***

Team 3D vs. Kevin Nash & Scott Hall - ***

Kurt Angle vs. Mr. Anderson - ****

TNA World Title: AJ Styles vs. The Pope - ***1/2

Lethal Lockdown: Team Hogan (Jeff Jarrett, Jeff Hardy, Rob Van Dam, Abyss) vs. Team Flair (Sting, Desmond Wolfe, Robert Roode, James Storm) - **1/2

To me, this is one of the most conflicting shows TNA ever produced. The buildup to this show was horrible. The Lockbox challenge, Styles and Pope seemingly not starting to feud until just a little bit before the show, and Pope's once-promising February push looking grim by April, the randomness of giving away Team 3D (& EY) vs. Hall, Nash, & XPac, only to have a ppv match where that one good-looking match got split into two feuds. I mean, if you give away 3D/Outsiders, why would the rematch be 3D/Hall & Pac?

Then there's the randomness of the show. The LL man advantage match is on the show (as opposed to Impact), which is ok I guess, Doug Williams is inexplicably stripped of the X Title because of the fuckin Volcano. Yes, that's right, TNA stripped a heel of his title because he couldn't make it to the show because of the volcano that left half the world stranded. Then, there's the fact that 3D/Outsiders is announced almost as an afterthought, since XPac no-shows. One of the biggest tag team matches of all time--The Dudley Boys vs. The Outsiers--is an afterthought.

On the other hand, the X Division title match, while random, is quite good. 3D/Outsiders is a blast. Angle/Anderson is a definite MOTYC, and Styles/Pope is damn good given what it's following. Considering what preceded it, and it got only 13 minutes, I think they put on a great world title match, and I actually love the ending.

But then the show goes right back to odd. LL is star-powered to be sure, but it's completely uneventful. It's just nothing but garbage can shots, kendo stick shots, punching, kicking, and waiting. There was a time when LL actually flowed nicely, namely in 2006 and 2007. This is pure garbage wrestling. The last few minutes comes down to Hogan and Flair, and Abyss getting the pin on Wolfe is, again, an afterthought. Someone here put it perfectly: "Oh, right, there's a match going on. Let me finish it."

Still an entertaining grab bag, but an absolute mess of a show. The best parts are in the middle.

Favorite Matches of All Time

1. Triple-Threat Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Benoit - WrestleMania XX

2. Career Threatening Match: Shawn Michaels vs. Ric Flair - WrestleMania XXIV

3. WWE Championship: John Cena vs. CM Punk - Money in the Bank 2011

4. No Holds Barred Match: The Undertaker vs. Triple H - WrestleMania XXVII

5. WWF Championship: Hulk Hogan vs. The Ultimate Warrior - WrestleMania VI

Cheers fella. Should give me a good starting point. Already got Joe/AJ on my list (and pretty high) and I know a couple others on that list will do well assuming they hold up on a re-watch .

This match isn't going anywhere near my list, however . And no way in HELL am I putting myself through another watch of it lol.

As for Desmond Wolfe matches... honestly don't think he did anything note worthy in terms of matches outside of his series with Angle. Gotta go back to his Nigel McGuinness days if you want great matches from him.

Well for DESMOND WOLFE (not Nigel), The only matches that spring to mind are the Wolfe/Pope series. Their two PPV matches were pretty good but nothing to ride home about, both fell in and around the *** mark for me. There were some short but neat TV matches with Styles and Daniels in late 2009 too but I wouldn't call them essential viewing or anything.

I'd recommend venturing back into his pre-TNA stuff if you're looking for quality, assuming you haven't already.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

I had a feeling I'd get that response RE: Wolfe. I'm familiar with (and highly enjoy) his work as Nigel and I've seen his Angle series but when he was on impact regularly I wasn't watching TNA that often so I was wondering if I'd missed anything noteworthy.

Also Cal I'd love to hear your thoughts on some of those matches if you get round to it. Any activity for this thread is good
