Samoa Joe Vs Christopher Daniels - TNA Impact 13/04/2006

Not too pleased that the match starts in progress, with Joe smashing hit boot into the face of Daniels who is against the guard rail. Sure, they show highlights of what happened during the break or whatever, but its not the same. Ah well.

Daniels is bleeding like a pig (who apparently bleed like fuck), and Joe is strutting around like he's the baddest man alive, looking pleased with his work so far.

Joe isn't doing anything flashy here for the most part; he's just biting and ripping and tearing at the cut on Daniels' head, while Daniels refuses to give up and keeps trying to fight back. I miss this Joe . He even looks thin here lol, compared to now.

Daniels looks great any time he tries to come back, and Joe looks magnificent during the cut off spots too. Joe going from a Powerbomb to Boston crap to STF to crossface to... fuck knows what that last submission hold is lol... is totally fucking awesome. Occasionally jabbing at the cut while applying the submission holds is more of the awesome little things that hardly anyone does these days, and hell, didn't do much in 2006 either. More guys need to do that shit, and Joe sure as hell needs to be more like this now.

The big finishing stretch and Daniels comeback is tremendous. Daniels' offence is awesome, and Joe even looks great too as he's still being put over as a monster type wrestler by not going down even from 2 kicks to the head, and then still coming back on the offence after everything Daniels threw at him.

Finish is pretty fucking great too. A lot of the time guys fighting each other on the ropes can look really forced and shitty, but here it looked great.

So yeah, awesome match, especially for the time it gets on the air, and the fact probably half of it isn't shown due to damn commercial breaks. Would love to see a FULL version of this. Joe is an evil bastard trying to murder Daniels, and Daniels is the resilient fucker fighting for himself and his friend AJ after everything Joe has done to them, and for the honour of the X-Division after Joe dishonoured it by fucking everyone up on his rise to the top. Joe constantly going after the cut is something right out of the 80's (sucks that when I think of something like that in wrestling, its from 30 years ago...) and I fucking love it.

Rating: ****1/4

At one point, I had a full version of that match due to them releasing the beginning of it up through the "opening dive" on YouTube. It is tied among 2 other matches (AJ/Angle from October of 09, and Beer Money/Motor City from the Whole F'n Show) for my favorite match in Impact history.

I'm looking to get some TNA DVDs so what PPVs can you recommend for me?

I'm also looking for ones that have a documentary. I know Angle and Jarrett have theirs, but who else?

Thanks in advance.

Unbreakable '05 is pretty good. I like BFG '06 and '07 as well. Final Resolution '07 is actually a pretty good show too. I think Victory Road '07 was solid too if I remember.

I'm watching the first Impact of '08 and jesus it's started off a little questionable. Christian and Angle are fighting over AJ Styles so AJ decided to lock himself in his grandma's house or something.

4 gauntlet matches on this show apparently?

Devon has the X-Division title. Johnny Devine called him King Kong and he got fucking PISSED.

Tag gauntlet was good until they cut to a commercial when LAX, Rock n' Rave and Sabin were left. They come back and they're in the middle of the tag match portion with Rock n' Rave against MCMG. So strange.

AJ's 3rd grade teacher is trying to get him out of the room now.

Come on, this match is just great. First off Mike Tenay is burying Vince Russo on commentary, then the ring girl (who happens to be more over than the actual wrestlers) is put in an X-division title match. The match is a 2:30 squash with a low blow and three outside interferences/runs-in, and of course it's the ring girl who stands tall at the end. This is the TNA we love to hate, (minus) five stars.

Christian Cage: The Instant Classic - Documentary is alright, could have been better but the matches on the set are pretty badass.
Immortal Forever - Not seen it yet, heard it's all done in kayfabe but you get used to it and it turns out to be a really good DVD. Apparently.
Unstoppable: The Best of Samoa Joe - Ok, so it has a tiny, tiny, tiny documentary bit after every match but the matches on the set for the most part are pretty epic for Joe's early career in TNA. Some of the matches on the set are questionable though. Joe vs. Delirious & Joe vs. Amazing Red shouldn't have been on it imo.
TNA Ultimate Matches - For the most part, the matches are REALLY good. Got some X-Division, Hardcore, KOTM matches, so it caters to a lot of taste, I think. The set is actually pretty good. Worth a buy.

Bound For Glory 2007 - Actually feels like a BIG event and has the (only) good match between Angle & Sting. It's a tad overbooked but it's still worth buying.
Genesis 2005 - Christian Cage's debut and not a bad night either. Most of the matches were good if I remember correctly
Bound For Glory 2005 - Rhino's night and a fucking good one. Monsters Ball, Iron Man Match between Styles & Daniels, just a really good event all around imo.
Lockdown 2005 - I personally really enjoyed this event, the JEff Hardy vs. Raven 6 Sides of Steel/Tables match was really enjoyable and AJ Styles vs. Abyss in 6 Sides of Steel is to this day one of my favorite TNA matches of all time and quite possibly my fav 6 Sides of Steel TNA match.

There are plenty of other good TNA PPV's on DVD that are amazing. Plenty in 2005 & 2006.

I'll add one more DVD set to this list and suggest TNA Knocked Out. It gives people a decent look into the early stages of the knockout division. It is worth owning to me alone just for Gail Kim vs. Awesome Kong matches.
