Motor City Machine Guns vs. Beer Money - Genesis 1/9/11
Good tag match, didn't think it was great though. Felt more like an exhibition than an important title match to me. The execution was what you'd expect from these two teams but it took them a while to get going and even when things picked up they never really wow'd me. The finish wasn't smooth either. Still a good match just not very memorable.

WAY too high for Ray/Devon (though it was better than expected) and WAY too harsh on Mickie Vs. Madison.

Hardy Boys vs. Mr. Anderson/RVD - iMPACT! 01/13/11

Actually liked this one a lot more than I thought I would. Sure it seemed stupid blowing the Hardys reunion after 4 days, but I'm not complaining, more tag-wrestling pour moi. Hardys are heel here are its something fresh, whether it works or not is debatable.

Match itself started out pretty sloppy with the attack on the outside but once things moved into the ring they got pretty good. Solid enough back and forth action with Jeff avoiding RVD like a scolded dog. Eventually, things settle into RVD being the Hardys bitch and dying for a hot-tag to Anderson. Even Jeff finally made contact with RVD for a little while.

It's when Anderson gets the hot-tag that things get awkward. He does the whole 'cleaning house' shtick but looked awkward pushing the ref out of the ring and then he looked awkward sitting there, waiting for Beer Money to come out. Of course then there's the heel interference, heels pick up the win, yada yada yada.

Didn't appreciate Matt doing muscle poses, sure he's put on some muscle but he's still got that gut! Overall, solid TV tag-match going roughly 10 minutes, nothing to write home about but noteworthy since it's a Hardys reunion.

Genesis 2006 Review

Pre-Show Match:
Eric Young vs. Robert Rhoode

How do you not love the, "Don't Fire Eric Young" gimmick. It was hilarious and Eric Young was insanely over during it. Very short match that was a lot of fun and the perfect way to get the crowd going. Just fast back and forth in the ring for a few minutes before Rhoode got win the when he put his feet on the ropes during a pin. With convincing from the crowd Eric Young the ref found out that Rhoode cheated and restarted the match. About 30 seconds later Young got the pin when he put his feet on the ropes. The crowd didn't give him up. Nothing special but it did it's job.
*3/4

Johnny Devine, Kaz, and Matt Bentley vs. Voodoo Kin Mafia

VKM destroyed the soon to be crowned Serotonin. It was a pretty solid match. You saw the 3 man team use their numbers advantage early on to control the match but once BG James made the hot tag Kip James just took care of business. They had their whole anti-WWE gimmick going and it was pretty funny to see Kip hit the Pedigree and tease a Sweet Chin Music. Bentley almost let Kaz kill himself when he almost whiffed on catching him when he was thrown over the top rope to the floor. Pretty good match but not a good way to debut a new stable.
**

The Naturals w/Shane Douglas vs. Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt

I really liked the Naturals in this match. They were able to both wrestle as dominant heels and when the pace picked up they were able to go move for move with with Lethal and Dutt. Basically the match had 2 fast paced parts with some awesome back and forth action and a short slow paced control segment by the Naturals. So much of the stuff that they were doing looked good and the crowd was pretty hot during it as well.

I really wish that the Naturals had hit the last move in the match better. It was clearly botched and kind ended what had been a really good match on a sour note. It didn't ruin the match by any means but when you see the 4 guys in the match hitting all sorts of awesome high impact moves you would want the high risk finishing move to be done right. I would have rather seen this as the opener as it did a much better job of getting the crowd going. First time I can ever say that I was impressed with the Naturals.
**3/4

X-Division Championship

Christopher Daniels(c) vs. Chris Sabin

Fun to see Sabin wrestling as a pure heel. I love his cocky, sort of an asshole face thing he has going in MCMG but he pulled off the cocky young heel really well here. The whole thing was a battle of respect between Daniels and Sabin. To sum things up, Chris Sabin was just acting like a dick with everyone else in the X-Division. It showed in the match as so many of the moves he hit just made you think, "asshole." He started the match off by pie facing Daniels, after seeing these awesome sequences of moves in the ring he would do something like poke him in the eye or slap him in the face. Daniels seriously looked pissed off with some of these antics.

The match itself was amazing. They worked at such a fast pace and everything they did looked amazing. Sabin played his role perfectly, he would go move for move with Daniels but he would still try to cheat whenever possible. He didn't win the title but he put up an amazing fight and I really thought he would pull it off a few times. Loved the ending as well were it looked like Sabin would show some respect and just ended up taking another cheap shot and pissing everyone off. Great match.
***3/4

Ron "The Truth Killings" and Lance Hoyt vs. Alex Shelley and Austin Starr

I think R-Truth might be the only man that can say that he has the same music in both TNA and WWE. I have to say that Shelley and Aries have such great chemistry when it comes to pretending that they have no chemistry as a team. Their whole goal always seemed to be impressing Kevin Nash. They also were hilarious heels.

Shelley and Starr spent a lot of the match working the leg of Hoyt, which to his credit he sold well. Killings didn't sell that much but you have to remember that in TNA he is a former World Champion so he probably shouldn't have been flying around the the ring taking bumps for guys that were essentially comedy jobbers. Decent match and Nash on commentary made it a lot more entertaining.
**1/2

Christian Cage vs. AJ Styles

I liked how they went into the match with Christian taking AJ lightly and than proceeding to get his ass kicked by AJ. If AJ wasn't so good at playing sort of an underdog face I would be against anyone taking Styles lighly because he is basically the most successful guy the company has ever had as far as winning title goes. After Christian being thrown off his game early on he went on to control the match for a while. The classic "keep the high flier grounded: strategy was used here. What I really liked was that even though Christian was able to keep Styles grounded for a while he was able to work a really fast paced match with him when the time for that came.

For lack of a better term, they did a lot of cool stuff. I'm not sure that they did things that I've never seen before but they did a lot of stuff that you don't see that often. I have to say the inverted DDT off the ropes by Styles is one of the coolest looking moves in wrestling. I would have liked the match to have gone a little longer but it was still really good.
***1/4

NWA Tag Team Championship Match
America's Most Wanted w/Gail kim vs. LAX(c) w/Konan

Good to start to the match as they got all the hatred in this feud across right away. Hernandez almost managed to get Homicide killed when he did a rather terrible job at catching him. Another thing that I loved early on was when Storm distracted the ref when LAX was going for a pin. Don West pointed out that they were having to revert back to their old selves (basically heels) to keep up with LAX and I was impressed that we ended up seeing it happen so early on.

I would say that things broke down quickly but I don't think they ever wrestled this like a standard tag match. All 4 guys were pretty much in the ring the entire time and they went at a frantic pace. The match had the big fight atmosphere the way they went all out from start to finish. They couldn't have possibly kept up the pace that long so it was for the best that the match didn't last very long. What we got was an awesome fast paced brawl. Good stuff and a really fun change of pace.
***

NWA Championship Match
Sting(c) vs. Abyss w/James Mitchell

Really weird match, I found it really entertaining but the way that the match ended via a DQ really didn't make all that much sense. This was basically a hardcore match in that both guys just ignored all the rules and everything that the ref said to them. I liked that Sting pretty much just lost it in this match. They showed a promo where he said he would bring honor and respect to the NWA Championship but he ended up destroying Abyss, Mitchell, and the ref. It would have been a lot better if the title couldn't change hand, as Sting ended up getting DQed. had he kept his title he would have looked like a badass for destroying Abyss, instead he looked like an idiot for costing himself the title.

I want to point out that I loved the story that they told in this match. I mean right from the start you had Sting doing things that he just normally wouldn't do. It started with some dives from the top rope to the floor, moved up to attempting to use tacks, he hung Abyss upside down from the ceiling, and he finally sent Absys through two barbed wire covered tables. He just completely lost it and I really liked it. But from a booking standpoint I hated it. You have Abyss get his ass handed to him and yet he walks out with the title.

I'll give both guys credit for the bumps they took and I enjoyed myself while watching it. The ending just left me scratching my head though.
**3/4

Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe

Awesome. This was the first time they were in the ring together and while they've never had a bad match this one is a lot different than all the others. I don't think the atmosphere has ever been better in the Impact Zone. TNA built this up as the dream match of the decade and the people there believed it. From the opening bell it just felt right.

I loved how Joe dominated early on. He was just hitting some devastating looking moves on Angle, and since they happened so early in the match it really looked like a super human effort from Angle. It was just a really intense match and I don't think they ever let up. Surprised at how short it was, under 15 minutes, but it didn't need to go any longer. They hit all their moves and told a great story. It's one of those matches that you could go back and watch over and over.

The finishing sequence was done really well. Joe held out in the ankle lock for a while, not a laughably long time but a good length of tf time before he tapped. Some of the counters that they had to the rear naked choke hold and the ankle lock were really innovative. An amazing match, I watched it last night, went back and rewatched it this morning and I'm already tempted to try to watch it again.
****1/4

Overall this was an amazing card. One of the better TNA PPVs that I've ever seen.

And has anyone used TNA's on demand service they have. They have a ton of stuff that you can watch but the quality on the free videos they offer is just downright terrible. Is it as bad for the premium content?

I didn't sign up to the premium service but I did use TNAOnDemand to watch iMPACT since it's not being aired in the UK atm. Quality was flawless from what I could tell. Don't know what the quality would be like for their older shows but I'd imagine it's much the same as the Classic Matches stuff on their YouTube channel.

Nice review. Genesis '06 has to be one of my favorite TNA PPVs of all time. The Sting/Abyss ending was just dumb but the match is just awesome.

I might need to try it on another computer or something. I watched a few interviews on there and there were times when the scream would get so blurry for a few seconds that you couldn't see what was going on at all.

The match was awesome. But the whole premise of the match was flawed. In TNA when you're the champion you can't lose it like Sting did because it would cost you the title. If the title didn't change hands there would be nothing stopping him from going crazy and killing Abyss, but instead I was left thinking, "Sting, you're such an idiot. You just cost yourself the title." I probably would be in the ***1/2 star range for it the highest prize in TNA wasn't on the line.
