I've finally gotten around to catching the good shit from last year's Turning Point.

Enjoyed the opener of Amazing Red vs. Homicide, which had a decent story going that Homicide is a ...., and then he gets embarrassed in a very surprising and visually pleasing finish. ***

Kurt Angle vs. Desmond Wolfe, while not perfect, and certainly there's potential for even better out of the two, was a major surprise to me. Obviously when you have Kurt Angle colliding with Nigel McGuinness, you're gonna have a hot match, but what surprised me was the psychology which led to the excellent finish. I cannot explain just how much I adored that finish, and it was a hell of an introduction for Desmond Wolfe. And some TNA marks will say "Well, he went against Angle, of course he looked great and that's why he fizzled out." Except that he as Nigel McGuinness had a proven track record. This is the match you get when you just two great wrestlers get in the ring and have a great professional wrestling match. ****, and if TNA will quit pussyfooting around with Wolfe, there's potential for these two to have the greatest match in the history of the company, even better than AJ vs. Joe.

AJ vs. Joe vs. Daniels felt very new yet familiar compared to there 2005 spotfest. It was still a spotfest, but I could feel more meaning and intensity behind every move in the match. It also helped that the choreography was almost on Dragon Gate level pacing, and none of the moves felt forced into the match. Everything just flowed so smoothly. Sorry Cena and DX, but TNA outdid you this time in the threeway department. ****1/2

Turning Point 2005 - Monty Brown vs Christian

Highly underrated Christian's TNA debut. Great action, fast pace and intense rhytm combined with good story telling, and it was one hell of a match. Monty Brown was particularly great heel in this match. His actions and mannerisms were so cool. It's a damn shame TNA dropped the ball with him, beuasce he could be their John Cena or something like that. excellent 12 min match.

Good list, although I don't agree with Joe/Angle (Lockdown) being so high.
Looking forward to reviews.

I am probably one of the biggest fans of this match on ths forum. I think very highly of it. I loved how stiff they were with each other and how real the match seemed. Every move they did made sense and mattered. they didnt hit a million moves but they made the crowd go crazy for every move they did. I loved the mix between MMA and Pro wrestling. It was just a one of a kind match that not a lot of wrestlers could pull of in my opinion.

As for Joe/kobashi. Yea the match does involve a lot of chops but it is probably one of the easiest matches ever to sit through. The crowd was just amazing. The whole time they were on their feet and chanting for both men. Both men beat the hell out of each other with some of the stiffest shots I have ever seen. It really looked like they wanted to kill each other. The bruises on Joe after the match show just that. It had a lot of chops but it also did have some sick wrestling moves in it. Everything they did had extra power to it. I am not saying this match is on the level of Kobashi/Misawa, but the amazing crowd, and the super killer stiff shots make me give this the full 5. Both things really helped a lot. Even though Joe lost, he really got put over by Kopbashi in this match as a monster.

Samoa Joe: TOP TEN

10.

Samoa Joe vs Kurt Angle (Turning Point 2006) - ****1/4

This was the feud of the year in 2006 for TNA. It was a dream match for a lot of fans. I was one of them. The unstopable Samoa Joe against Kurt Angle. I think that they pushed their feud a little fast and should have built it up more but I am just glad that we got some classic matches out of them.

So in my opinion this is a top ten match for Samoa Joe and the TNA MOTY for 2006. Before this match Angle had defeated Joe in a fun fast paced little match at Genesis. He ended Joe's long undefeated streak and now Joe wanted payback.

So the match starts of and the crowd is not going as crazy right away as they did with their first match. Samoa Joe dominates for a few minutes and then Angle takes over. For 10 minutes straight he dominates Samoa Joe with Joe only getting in a couple of shots in before Angle again gets the edge.

I didnt like this too much. In their first match Joe kills Angle but over here Angle somehow has become super human and is dominating Joe easily. Angle hits a lot of germans and suplexes for the ten minutes that he dominates. The crowd also starts getting in the match.

Samoa Joe makes his comback and the crowd loves it. It does not last long though. I think this was the first time where Samoa Joe was destroyed like this in a match actually. Before this he was a monster in the X division and didnt have too much trouble with anyone except for Scott Steiner a little bit.

Now they exchange some signature moves and we see a couple of finishers and then the submissions come out. For more then 5 minutes straight we see the rear naked choke countered into the Ankle lock, and the Ankle lock countered into the rear naked choke. The crowd goes crazy as they were just doing their submsision finishers and reversing them in some nice unique ways. It was just counter after counter.

Angle sees that this time he can not beat Samoa Joe clean and he gets out of the ring to get a chair. I think this was the start of the heel Kurt Angle. He tries to hit Joe with the Chair but Joe ducks and Angle ends up missing and hitting himself in the face with it when the chair bounces of the ropes. Angle is dazed and Samoa Joe ends up putting him in the rear naked choke one more time. Angle tries to survive but cant and finally ends up tapping out.

After this match they had another one at Final Resolution which was an ironman match, one at Hard Justice which had all the titles on the line, and one at Lockdown which was their last ppv match together. I think this is their second best match that they have had together. Every match brought something different though, so they are all fun to watch.

Anyways, the match is probably best remembered for the submision counters towards the end of the match. The match had a good crowd, a nice first half but not anything too amazing and an awesome second part. If you were watching this live you probably would have no idea when the match would end during the last ten minutes of the match.

Just in case anybody has not seen this match or if anybody just wants to rewatch it again, here is the link for the match.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6ft6r0jaQI

Anyways. Both men got a little stiff with each other at a few points in the match and they played their characters well. You really felt that both men would do whatever it took to win this match, even go as far as cheating. The intensity was there and the match just had a little bit of everything in it. Submsisions, finishers, high flying, near falls, the crowd, atmosphere, brawling.

It had a couple of things I did not like, like Angle dominating too much after we have seen Samoa Joe almost squash him in their last match together and we saw Angle go crazy with throwing his signature moves around like he has been known to do. Still though, those are not really that big and the match has far more good points then bad points.
