Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Not a bad list.
2005, I really wasn't a fan of Slammiversary that year. Very dull show outside of Raven's title win & Joe's debut. I've said this before, but I felt the Pre Show was actually more exciting and interesting than the PPV itself.
2006 was my favorite year for TNA PPVs. They were on fire most of the year, but I have to admit I wasn't a huge fan of Victory Road 2006 which was essentially Slammiversary Part II, and not in a good way with them following up most of the matches from that show with inferior tag matches. Other than that, 2006 pretty much kicked ass. Their 2nd weakest was probably HJ06, which was hurt by the fire incident, but TNA gets forgiven for that because that was out of their control.
Under 2007, I have to admit I didn't hate Lockdown or Destination X. If I had to throw any 2007 PPVs up there as the worst, I'd say Turning Point was definitely a mess, mainly because of the main event. I also say that I didn't hate Hard Justice either. That show was labeled as being the worst of 2007, so bad that people compared it to December to Dismember! But it only raises the question from me, how in the hell did AAO 07 escape the venom? I don't get that.
2008, I agree that FRII felt like a 3 Hour Impact rather than a real PPV. Sacrifice wasn't terrible, but way too cluttered (3 Round Tournament, Women's Battle Royal & Ladder Match, 3 Way World Title Match AND Steel Asylum) One of those needed to be left off, probably the World Title match or Steel Asylum. Other than that, I can't really think of any bad shows from this year.
2009 I already said it, but I hated Against All Odds. Sure Victory Road was bad, but at least that show had matches worth checking out on paper like Foley/Angle & Sting/Joe. Maybe they weren't the best, but AAO was a joke even before the PPV. I mean Sting, Angle, Ray , & Devon in a 4 Way for the World Title??? Fuck you! I'm sorry, but its just not a good idea to pass off 3D as singles guys. There were other problems, but the main event to AAO just really bugged me. I also feel like Destination X 2009 is probably the most two faced PPV ever: 1st half is a TRAINWRECK. Like seriously shitty. 2nd half is actually awesome! I would even throw Joe/Steiner into the awesome part because it was the first thing that happened that generated any kind of spark and was like "Oh man, that was kinda cool!". 3D/BMI, Ultimate X, AJ/Booker, & even Sting/Angle Part 500 were all really good too.
