Monsters Ball I-***1/4-***1/2
Monsters Ball II-****1/4
Monsters Ball III-***1/4-***1/2
Monsters Ball IV-**1/2

I'm thinking this year's edition will probably Abyss/Tomko/Morgan/Rhino and we won't see Abyss use any weapon violence until he finally cracks at BFG.

Monster's Ball Rankings:

1) Hardy vs. Abyss vs. Sabu vs. Rhino from 2005 - Just wild and insane. It had about as much ring psychology as an insanity ward, but for a hardcore spotfest, it was a lot of fun, and some of the spots were just nasty (how is Hardy not in a wheelchair after this match?)

2) Joe vs. Abyss vs. Raven vs. Runt w/Jake Roberts as Guest referee from 2006 - This one was very entertaining. It was cool to see Joe interact with Abyss and Roberts added some entertainment to it as well..

3) Monty vs. Abyss vs. Raven from 2004 - The original. Alot of people seemed surprised with how good it turned out originally, but I knew it would be fun to watch with these three involved. It's been surpassed since then, but it was the first real hardcore match of the Orlando-era for TNA and deserves special praise because of it.

4) Abyss vs. Rhino vs. Reign vs. Rsven from 2007 - For storyline purposes, it would have been better if Messias had been involved, and I also would have liked it if they included Harris & Storm since they were feuding with Reign & Rhino respectively. However, it was still fun for what it was. It lacked the significance of the other three. Leep in mind the other three played a role in heavyweight rankings with Monty, Rhino, & Joe getting big pushes after their wins, while this one was just thrown together. But definately good, and I was great for Abyss to FINALLY win a Monster's Ball.

Hard Justice (2006)

1.) Eric Young vs. Johnny Devine - **
This was literally a "Hot" opener as the roof caught fire during the match lol. Kind of hard to rate this one but it was a good contest considering the circumstances. EY was Way over.

2.) Chris Sabin vs. Alex Shelley - ***

Was really looking forward to this one and it didn't disappoint. Great X-style back and forth action. It was a bit too short but a great match while it lasted.

3. Abyss vs. Brother Runt - ***1/4
Really fun brawl with no dull moments whatsoever. Abyss gorilla press slams Runt into the crowd lol and takes all kinds of punishment in this one. There's this really sick spot where Abyss rubs Runt's face into the tacks and while he's hovering above it, delivers one of the most brutal looking curbstomps I've ever seen sending Runt face first into the tacks!!! There was a collective look of shock from almost everyone in the front row.

4.) Fall Count Anywhere - Joe vs Monty vs Rhino - ****
Wow what a Hardcore battle this was. This wasn't just a brawl it was an all out war. They fought all over the stands which some times I hate, but they never stopped killing each other and used weapons at every turn. Lots of suplexs and the like on the ramp and a missed Gore by Rhino sending him off said ramp onto two awaiting tables. Finish came when Joe hit an awesome looking STO off the side of the ramp onto another table getting the pinfall.

5.) Gail Kim vs. Sirelda - 1/2*
UGGGHGHGH This was just bad from the get go. Sirelda is completely horrible and looked like shit in the ring. Kim did her best but there was no saving this one. Maybe had the heel/face roles been reversed this might have been better.

6.) X Title - Senshi vs. Petey vs. Lethal - **3/4
Pretty good matchup between the three but there wasn't a good flow to this one. Some nice action in this though and Lethal was really good.

7.) NWA Tag Titles - AJ/Daniels vs. LAX - ***3/4
Great tag match as I had hoped for. There was some communication problems throughout causing some botches and awkward looking moments but besides that the action was solid. Some standard stuff in the beginning but once the action broke down there was all kinds of excellent stuff. Aj busting out a springboard SSP was great to see.

8.) NWA Title - Jeff Jarrett vs Sting - **1/2
How I missed these JJ overbooked ridiculous main events... Steiner was in Jarrett's corner while Cage was in Sting's and they both were heavily involved throughout. They brawled in the stands at first and unlike the Falls count anywhere match where it was great here it just consisted of Sting pulling Jarrett by the hair, throwing some punches and occasionally ramming him into a wall or two. Boring stuff for the most part. Then came the ref bumps and interference like usual. The one saving grace was the awesome unexpected heel turn By Christian. As Sting was coming off the top, Cage held Jarrett down all the while holding his guitar. As Sting flew down Cage unleashed a viscous looking guitar shot right on his head allowing JJ to get the pin.

Overall:
A decent ppv with some solid wrestling throughout. Just one real stinker in the Woman's match and a great hardcore brawl between Joe/Rhino/Monty.

Other Stuff: The fire incident was really weird to see. The crowd chanting "THE ROOF IS ON FIRE!" was downright hilarious and then they followed it up with an equally funny "YOU CAN'T SEE US!" chant lol. They scraped the 4 way number 1 contenders tag match because of it and that one had some promise. During the evacuation they played some hype videos and then they went outside to DW and Tenay who kept the audience updated. Monty Brown even came out and did a funny ass promo with them calling Joe a Hippophant, half hippo half elephant lol.

Great review man. Hard Justice 2006 had a great card and could have been one of the better PPVs of the year, but the fire incident just kind of sucked the life out of the show a little bit. That said the way the fans reacted to it was just priceless, and the show ended up being good despite what happened.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's the worst match, I think the Harris/Storm Blindfold match has something to say about that dubious honor. But you're right the match sucked plain and simple. Sometimes JJ overbooked main events added some entertainment to an otherwise bad match, like against Nash but here it just killed any momentum it could've gained. The Cage stuff at the end was great though.

Just watched these 2 PPV opening matches, maybe the 2 best TNA PPV openers ever..

12-man Elimination X (Victory Road): **** - ****1/4
30 minutes of non-stop back and forth action. A very entertaining match, but I missed some crazy high risk spots. Overall great opener. I will finish VR later today and post all my ratings.

xXx vs LAX (Ultimate X, BFG 07) ***3/4 - ****
Another awesome opener. The match lasted only 10 minutes or so, but it was fast-paced with lots of crazy spots. They used the Ultimate X structure very well, unlike other Ultimate X matches. This was the match where Hernandez really exploded. He was truly the mvp of the match after giving cracker jacks, backbreakers and other power moves to xXx. The border toss over the top rope was vicious.

Top 5 PPV Openers:
1. 12-Man Elimination Tag - Victory Road '08
2. Sabin/Lethal/Dutt - Sacrifice '07
3. LAX/XXX - UX - Bound For Glory '07
4. Xcape - Lockdown '07
5. UX Gauntlet - Victory Road '07

Runner-ups go to Lethal&Dutt/XXX/MCMG from Hard Justice '07 and LAX/MCMG/RNR from Destination X '08. It's kinda weird how all these matches are either from '07 or '08...

05 had its share of good openers. Some of them invovled 3LK, Sonny Siaki, or Apolo, which aint good, but we got Barbedwire Massacre which I completely forgot about when I was making my list. If nothing else, its the best opener of 2005. I also really liked Joe/Liger from BFG.

From 06, we had some solid ones. An X Gauntlet from BFG, and Multi Man X Match from TP, Naturals vs. Aries/Strong from AGA, Shelley vs. Lethal from DX, The World X Cup Preview from LD. And while it wasn't a great match, who'll forget that EY/Devine match where the Impact Zone caught fire!

By my personal favorites from 06 are the Liger vs. Petey match from Sacrifice (too bad the PPV cut out because the match was awesome) and I can't believe I'm saying this, but Team 3D vs. The James Gang in the Bingo Hall Brawl was great. Do you believe that a great New Age Outlaws match Post 2000 doesn't exist? Watch this match and you'll be proven wrong.

2007 was probably the best year for openers though. Loved the Xscape match from LD, Sabin/Dutt/Lethal from Sac, the X Gauntlet from VR, and of course that awesome Ultimate X from BFG. But there were other really good ones as well. AJ vs. Rhino LMS from FR, LAX vs. Team 3D from DX (by far their best match together), XXX vs. Lethal/Dutt vs. MCMG from HJ. And believe it or not I would even throw Rhino/Senshi vs. LAX from Slammy up there as a great opener, and I even really liked Abyss vs. Black Reign from Gen too. Didn't think I would but meh.

2008 has given some really good ones. People loved LAX vs. RNR from FR despite it being short, which is good. Short match does not equal bad match. As long as its good, then its good. Of course the upped it by adding the Guns to the mix in a really good match at DX. LD opened up again with Xscape and it was once again pretty good, and of course we got that outstanding tag team elimination match from VR that everyone is raving about.

But where's the love for Petey vs. Kaz from Slammiversary? Hell even I forgot it while I was making my list. That was an outstanding opener as well.

I'd say BWM I is about ****, kinda hard to rate a match like that.

I also agree about the Lockdown 06 opener, I love that match and have it around ***3/4 or so.

Did the X Gauntlet open up the 1st TNA monthly PPV Victory Road 04? If so, that would definitely have to be in the discussion as well.
