**3/4. It's solid. Hate to be nit-picky, but I really really could have done without Monty Brown trying to get involved. Other than that, solid work from both. Almost certain they had better matches on the Weekly PPVs though. I have to relive them of course. Their match from Impact in early 2010 was (Y) too.
Jarrett vs DDP from Destination X 2005 is another one that's a lot of fun. Interference in it isn't too bad since it actually played into the stipulation.
Bound For Glory Series Semi-Final Match
Jeff Hardy vs. Samoa Joe
I would have preferred to see Joe win here to continue my dream of seeing the Aries/Joe feud renewed in TNA, but the match itself was hot stuff with bot guys working hard and busting out all the swank counters you expect. Great kick-start to the show. ***1/2
Bound For Glory Series Semi-Finals Match
Bully Ray vs. James Storm
There was a solid match here mostly, but the beginning and end dragged it down a bit. Lots of stalling followed by a cliched ref-crazy finish, but the middle portion of the match was quite good. ** 1/2
Tara helped carry the load for most of the match but Tessmacher didn't look terrible either, and the "teacher vs. student" trope is a classic story that's hard to mess up. **1/4
This was actually even better than their first encounter as we had the added backstory and more time to develop things here and god damn did they deliver in spades as all four men were busting out new and innovative double-team moves everywhere. This was absolutely fantastic, the best American tag team match I've seen in 2012 certainly. ****
Bound For Glory Series Finals Match
Bully Ray vs. Jeff Hardy
This one took a bit to get going and it started off giving you the implication that Bully would win quickly but begrudgingly and earn the fans respect in a way, but instead they did a total 360 mid-match and had Jeff make the whole babyface comeback and win the BFG series clean to justify his redemption story. Solid story told in the match and though it was a bit finisher-heavy, it served it's purpose well and ended the show on a high note. ***
Final thoughts:
When I have seen it live, id didn't look so good, but I have rewatched it yesterday and it was highly entertaining. No Surrender was always for me, only a filler for BFG, complete with a last-minute announced card and all. But this was a very good show, Thumb Up for TNA. My final rating is : 8.5/10
And why are the Aces & Eights getting shit on in general? I mean come on, the storyline has taken some directions recently that are bad, but overall the gimmick had some steam early on and I thought there was some interesting ideas put into it.
AJ & Lynch was much much worse than anything else TNA did this year, so no doubt that should be it. Hell, if Aces & Eights 2 was 2 and AJ/Lynch is as low as 6, then what the hell was one and what the hell were the feuds that came 3-5?
Cena and Kane got #1. Cena/Johnny ace, Kane/Ryder, and Vickie/aj all beat AJ/Claire.
Don't see how anyone could say AJ/Claire is worse than Aces & 8's. Between Daniels and Kazarian being fantastic, some good-great matches stemming from that feud and provided some unintentionally hilarious acting.
Aces & 8'a has provided zero good matches, has dominanted TV time, has seen them be the biggest group of losers imaginable and has made Devon a "top heel."
Claire Lynch was brutal. Aces have brought in some new talent. I'm judging it off of that. TNA knew how bad Lynch was which is why they axed it in the fashion that they did.
Besides, the angle was such a total mindfuck that it easily takes the cake of being the worst thing of the year. AJ & Dixie wanted to randomly help a pregnant crackhead? Fuck that crap.
Who cares if it brought in new talent if none of them are used well? IE: The Invasion. Plus this story has now been going on for eight months in the usual TNA go-to of a top heel stable dominating everything, only this time there is not even good matches to go with it. Granted it's comparing shit to shit, but I will take the zaniness and two month stupidity that is Claire as well as the good matches that came out of it over this lame group that is still dominating television since it came around.
Agree with both of these posts. A&8 WOULD have redeeming qualities with the whole new talent being brought it like sabin said, BUT they've completely fucked them over at every opportunity pretty much.
hey i have those london impacts too. maybe ill get round to also watching them.
TNA was the best consistently for a period last year. Sacrifice through to Hardcore Justice had very few low points. Poor start and end hampered it though. Probably better than Raw on the whole. Their best wasn't as good but they were more well rounded.
1) TNA Knockouts Championship
Tara(c) vs Velvet Sky ~ DUD
2) Rob Van Dam & Christian York vs Kenny King & Zema Ion ~ 1/2*
3) Robert Roode vs Shawn Hernandez ~ 3/4*
4) TNA World Championship
Jeff Hardy(c) vs Christopher Daniels ~ ***
A mixed bag of a show with a quality main event. Usual bunch was awesome. I found it harder than usual to work through the entire show though. Normally it flies on by. Tonight it was a bit tough to stomach a few segments. Mostly the ones with Aces & Eights. In fact, I think that's all that got me. Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to the upcoming shows in the UK.
