Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Finished up my reverse BFG watchings
BFG 05
Shelley/Dutt/Strong/Aries-**** (Such a great match, this is what the X division should be all about)
Joe/Liger-*** (Short but still good, with more time I'm sure they could've put on a classic)
Diamonds In The Rough/Sharky & Apolo & Siaki-** (Filler tag, couple of good moments tho)
Hoyt/Monty-**1/2 (Solid big man match, once again kinda short. Hoyt was over as hell back then)
3LK/Team Canada-*1/2 (I guess this had more buildup probably, but it still feels like filler)
Petey/Bentley/Sabin-Ultimate X-***1/4 (Even with the X falling and everything, this was a great match before that. Without the problems I'd say it would've been atleast 1/2* higher)
AMW/Naturals-*** (A good solid tag title match, nothing earth shattering but the wrestling is on point)
Abyss/Hardy/Sabu/Rhino-Monsters Ball I-****1/4 (This will probably never be topped as far as MB goes, everybody knows how great this match is pretty much. Hardy's swanton still amazes me, one of the best spots in TNA history. As far as straight hardcore matches go, they don't get much better than this)
AJ/Daniels-Ironman Match-****1/4 (Ok I feel this match is highly underappreciated due to the predecessor being the better match, I could even go to ****1/2 on this possibly. It's a match that has grown on me over time, just brilliant brilliant stuff IMO. Such a great contrast to the previous match, but their both just as great in their own ways.)
10 Man No.1 Contender Gauntlet(Joe, Kip, AJ, Abyss, Rhino, Killings, Sabu, Hardy, Monty, and Hoyt)-** (I think this match is enjoyable at first and the crowd seems to like it, but at one point they just go totally dead. Everyone was trying to sell being hurt from their earlier matches and it kinda made the match seem slow and not in sync. Crowd was all for Joe)
Rhino/Jarrett-** (Now this is the biggest flaw of the show, the main event is essentially non existent. I figure it deserves the same rating tho atleast as the gauntlet, the crowd did pop pretty hard for Rhino winning just cause Jarrett lost essentially. Match tells an ok story actually, but there's just not enought there)
Bonus Match
Petey/Sabin/Bentley-Ultimate X Rematch from 11/3/05-***3/4 (Great match, this is what the original match would've been without the X falling. Not one of the best UX matches of all time, but it's very very good)
Overall I feel like BFG 05 is one of the most mixed bag type of PPV's I've ever seen, but I would still recommend it. It's the weakest of the 3 BFG shows due to the lack of a main event and just too much filler for the biggest show of the year.
But the top matches on this show stack up well against the other 2 BFG's. A great hardcore match, brilliant technical wrestling counter, and an X division showcase are the standouts of the show.
6 ***+ matches is nothing to sneeze at either, plus a 7th as a bonus match.
