Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Well comparing BFG 07 to what we think will be 08
Sting/Joe - Sting/Angle = Both matches are dream match main event. Sting/Angle was built very well, but so has Joe/Sting, and Joe/Sting has been building since July. Sting/Angle was great & I think Sting/Joe could potentially match it.
Joe/Christian - Jarrett/Angle = Joe/Christian was the big nontitle heavyweight grudge match and I think Jarrett/Angle will be the same for 08. Joe/Christian had a great feud, and Angle/Jarrett has a great situation with Jarrett making his return. Joe/Christian is hard to surpass, but Jarrett/Angle has a lot going for it energy wise, so it'll be interesting to see how it goes.
BMI/LAX - 3D/Steiners = I know 3D/Steiners wasn't for the tag titles, but that was the biggest tag match on the show, and had the best build up. Both feuds have been great tag team feuds. I loved most of the BMI/LAX matches, and I really enjoyed the Tables Match last year. 3D/Steiners might be better from a nostalgic standpoint, but I think LAX/BMI could deliver a great match that may steal the show.
And then you had AJ/Tomko vs. Team Pacman for the tag titles which was a nice added attraction to the show, and ended up being surprisingly good. But going into it, I don't think too many of us net nerds were overly interested in it.
Bashir/Creed - Lethal/Daniels = Lethal/Daniels didn't have much of a build outside of Daniels getting a nontitle win over Lethal. Creed/Bashir has some good promos building it up and making it interesting. Will it top Lethal/Daniels? Hard to say. Lethal/Daniels was actually a great match, but we'll see how Daivari & Creed do. They've proven to me at least that they are at lesat capable.
KO Multi Woman Match - KO Gauntlet - Not entirely sure what the KO title match will be at the PPV. I'm expecting either a 4 way (Taylor/Love/ODB/Kong) or a 6 way (Roxxi & Velvet added in) We'll see. The KO Gauntlet's major selling point was that the first Women's Champ would be crowned, and it delivered an entertaining match up with Gail & Kong being the standouts. This new title match won't have that same benefit, but I think it could have potential to be really good with alot of the same girls involved and Kong doing her thing in there.
Steel Asylum - Ultimate X = The LAX/XXX Ultimate X match opened up the show and delivered a great & exciting spotfesty kind of match. I expect the same thing from Steel Asylum. They are going to open the PPV and just let the guys go nuts, which will be fun, and could potentially top the UX from last year (hard to do though)
Tag Team Invitational - Monster's Ball = With Team 3D & Abyss involved, expect that TTI to turn hardcore. Last year's Monster's Ball was good for what it was, but was largely used as a filler inbetween Joe/Christian & Angle/Sting. I expect the Tag Team Invitational to be longer, especially if they do the Tag Team Turmoil format that I suggested. I think the TII could be much better than last year's Monster's Ball.
AJ/Christian/Booker - Fight for the Right = Now everybody is predicting AJ/Christian/Booker in a match that grants the winner a title match. If that is the case, I think we can all agree that this would be better than doing the Reverse Battle Royal again, or any Battle Royal period.
So overall, assuming I am right on where they seem to be heading for BFG 2008, I'd say the card is about as good as last year's show on paper. Whether or not it lives up to that is something we'll just have to wait for.
