Michael Shane (c) vs. Chris Sabin vs. Christopher Daniels vs. Low Ki – Ultimate X – TNA X Division Championship – Weekly PPV (1/7/04)
Back in late August of ’03, Michael Shane won his first X Division Championship in the first ever Ultimate X match. It’s time for the Ultimarte X to return and Shane will defend his title against Chris Sabin, Christopher Daniels, and Low Ki.
The match starts with some good fast-paced action, which included spots like Sabin’s somersault dive over the top rope onto Shane and Low Ki. A chair was then brought into the match as Shane gave Sabin a chair shot to the head. Daniels tried to springboard off the ropes to grab the belt, but was unsuccessful. There really wasn’t much of anyone using the wires to get the belt during the entire match. Daniels tried to work his way across the wire, but Shane gave him a chair shot to the back, knocking Daniels off the wire. The chair was then set up in the middle of the ring. Shane tried to make his across the wire, but Daniels stood on the chair to try to stop him. Shane then gave Daniels a hurricanrana off the wire and the chair. Daniels then tried to run and spring off the chair to grab the belt, but as he was doing that, Low Ki gave Daniels a springboard kick while Daniels was in the air! Sabin then gave Low Ki an enzuigiri kick off the chair. Moments later, as Low Ki and Daniels worked their way across the wires; Low Ki gave Daniels a Bite of the Dragon from the wires! Sabin then gave Low Ki a springboard dropkick while Low Ki was on the wire. Shane Douglas then brought a ladder into the match. Sabin then tried to give Shane a baseball slide kick, but he hit the referee instead. Low Ki then tried to give Shane that cartwheel kick, but Shane countered it with a superkick. Shane then tried to climb up the ladder to get the belt, but Daniels caught him and he gave him a Rock Bottom-like move off the ladder! Sabin then tried to climb up the ladder, but Low Ki caught him and he gave him a German suplex off the ladder! Daniels then gave Low Ki the Best Moonsault Ever. Moments later, as Low Ki and Daniels tried to climb up the ladder; Shane pushed the ladder and sent both Low Ki and Daniels down to the arena floor. The ref then got up and took the ladder out of the match. Shane then tried to work his way across the wire, but Sabin caught him and he sent him from the top rope through a table that was set up on the arena floor early in the match! Sabin then got across the wire to grab the belt for the win! New X Division Champion!
This match was better than the first UX, but my problem with this one was that there was really no climax beyond Shane going through the table. On a positive note, the belt didn’t fall once, and that’s a huge improvement from the first UX. Again, the match was a little better than the first UX, but not by much.
