Genesis 06

VKM vs Seronin 1/2*
The Naturals vs Sonjay/Lethal **
Daniels vs Sabin **3/4 (Strange, but they never had a great chemistry)
Killings/Hoyt vs Paparazis **1/4
Christian Cage vs AJ Styles ***1-2 - ***3/4 (forgotten, but great match)
LAX vs AMW **1/4
Sting vs Abyss ***1/4 (I loved the psycho Sting)
Angle vs Joe ****1/4+

Overall 8/10

The double main events delivered, only Sabin vs Daniels was a bit of a letdown for me.

Really? I thought it was great. Thought they clicked pretty well. ***1/2 from me.

Also I have that tag match at ***. It was a lot better than I expected and I remember Lance selling the leg pretty well.

I never liked their matches, nor the matches with Jerry Lynn.
And I hate matches where they work on the legs for ages. Good selling or not.

Genesis' ratings for me would be close to vivalabrave's ones.

But I would change Daniels/Sabin to ***1/4, Cage/Styles to ***3/4 and Angle/Joe to ***1/2. I wasn't so impressed with the first Angle & Joe match besides how terrific the crowd was for them.

Genesis 2006 is easily one of my favorite TNA PPVs ever. It was sold on the dream match of Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe, but to me there were a few dream matches that I really wanted to see and the end result was a very satisfying and entertaining PPV.

The Voodoo Kin Mafia vs. Serotonin: 3 On 2 Handicap Match

Yeah this sucked. This is probably the weakest opener in TNA PPV history, but thankfully they kept it short. The bit with Raven after the match was interesting, but as we all know, they never really went anywhere with it.

The Newly Franchised Naturals w/Shane Douglas vs. Jay Lethal & Sonjay Dutt

This was a solid tag team match. Not much else to say besides that. The Naturals unfortunately didn't last too much longer after this.

Christopher Daniels (c) vs. Chris Sabin: X Division Championship

I really liked this one. It was a very good X Title match and was the point in the show where things started to get very very good. I felt these two always worked well. The match they had in 2005 on Impact was one of the better matches during the FSN era and they continued to have good matches after Genesis.

Ron "The Truth" Killings & Lance Hoyt vs. Austin Starr & Alex Shelley

This match was ok. Something about it just seemed off. I don't think the styles of the two teams meshed all that well, but it wasn't completely horrible.

"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs. Christian Cage

MOTN!!! This is a bit of a forgotten classic, but I really loved this match, and it was a major dream match for me in TNA. I wish they'd have continued with this feud or done it again in 2008 when their partnership split. Anybody who watched this match knows they have great chemistry and I definately wanted more matches after this beauty. The stuff after the match was good as it set up AJ's heel turn.

The Latin American Xchange (c) w/Konnan vs. America's Most Wanted: NWA Tag Team Championship

This was a fun and exciting match up. I really wish they had gotten more out of these feud because these two teams could have had an amazing match down the road. We got two pretty good PPV encounters out of them though, and this one was exciting. The stuff after the match with Cornette didn't go over well with the crowd, but they changed it on Impact, so big deal.

"The Icon" Sting (c) vs. "The Monster" Abyss w/James Mitchell: NWA World Championship

This was another dream match for me. I wanted these two to square off the second I heard Sting was coming to TNA. This match was just wild and chaotic, which I love, and Sting taking a bareback thumbtack spot and then Hulking up was one of the craziest things I've ever seen. And I hate to spoil the ending, but one of the reasons I love this match is because I am a huge Abyss fan and I was so happy to see him win the title. This is another contender for MOTN for me.

Kurt Angle vs. "The Samoan Submission Machine" Samoa Joe

People seem to like this match more now. For those who don't know, during the match Angle blew up and they ended the match sooner than they were supposed to, which apparently got Angle and Joe in trouble with Jeff Jarrett. Some people complained that it was too short.

Me personally? I loved the match. While the match was shorter than people wanted, I didn't think the ending seemed rushed, and Joe & Angle made it look like they were trying to kill each other and that came off extremely well. The crowd was red hot for this match too, and overall I would say the match delivered, but others might disgree.

So it got off to kind of a slow start with some weaker undercard matches, but the big matches delivered big time. I loved AJ/Christian, Abyss/Sting, AMW/LAX, Daniels/Sabin, and of course Angle vs. Joe, and Genesis 2006 still stands as one of my favorite TNA PPVs.

Match Rankings:
1) AJ Styles vs. Christian Cage
2) Sting vs. Abyss
3) Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe
4) Christopher Daniels vs. Chris Sabin
5) AMW vs. LAX
6) Naturals vs. Sonjay Dutt & Jay Lethal
7) Lance Hoyt & Ron Killings vs. Austin Starr & Alex Shelley
8) VKM vs. Serotonin

Sacrifice (2006)

1.) Jushin “Thunder” Liger vs. Petey Williams - ***
Good opener here, Liger was way over with the crowd, but the match wasn't long enough to be anything special. Ended kinda sucked as well.

2.) Tag titles - AMW vs Daniles/Aj - ****1/4
Great tag match here. Started off with Aj/Daniels dominating the early portion then AMW comes back and does some nice work over stuff. After that all hell breaks loose and that when it got awesome. All 4 just did everything to try and win. A great BME, Frog splash combo from AJ/Daniels. The ending takes a bit aways from it. But as far as tag matches go you won't see many better than this one.

3.) Raven vs. A1 - *1/2
This has no place on a ppv....Wasn't overly terrible but I didn't care one bit about this one.

4.) Rhino vs Robert Roode - ***
Pretty good matchup between these 2. More interference from Team Canada but it wasn't too bad.

5.) The James Gang vs. Team 3D - **3/4
Surprisingly entertaining. Bubba did an awesome dropkick that had the crowd going. Some funny antics in the beginning as well. Good solid tag action. Once again ending hurt it a bit.

6.) World X Cup Gauntlet - ***
Excited to see this one after watching Victory road but it just didn't reach anything great. First off Elimination tag works MUCH better than a gauntlet. Too crowed and too much of a clusterfuck to be anything memorable but some nice action. The after match stuff with Nash was great though.

7.) Sting/Joe vs. Jarrett/Steiner - ***1/2
Another solid match. The Joe/Steiner interaction in the beginning was great. Good stuff all around and Joe got way over proving he could handle himself outside the X-division. Liked the ending with Joe just leaving Sting to get beatdown.

8.)NWA title - FMM - Cage vs. Abyss - ***3/4
Really good match but nowhere near the quality of the previous months one at Lockdown. Loved James Mitchell getting the tack treatment though lol.

Overall: Great ppv again. Some really good matches. Top to bottom a solid wrestling show with AMW vs Aj/Daniels easily being MOTN. Nothing too bad besides a few less than spectacular endings.

Great review AJ! I think Lockdown, Sacrifice, & Slammiversary from 2006 was probably TNA's best string of consecutive PPVs. All three shows were great (LD & Slammy being two of my favorites)

Jushin "Thunder" Liger vs. Petey Williams: World X Cup Match

This was a very good match. Anytime they include Liger, I'm going to be glued to the screen because he is a lot of fun to watch. IMO, this match was better than his bout with Joe at BFG (and I really liked that one) Very hot opener. For those that saw the PPV live, the broadcast cut out right before the finish which sucked, but they showed us video footage of it on the website. The complete match is very good.

My friend had a great joke though. When the PPV came back on, they showed that Liger had won and they did a promo where Jackie Gayda revealed she was pregnant. My friend then said "Whoa. Petey lost & Jackie's pregnant...that was one very powerful blackout!"

America's Most Wanted vs. AJ Styles & Christopher Daniels: NWA Tag Titles

Amazing tag team match. These two teams managed to have some of the best tag team matches of the decade bar none. I loved their New Year's show match & the match at Slammiversary is my pick for TNA's MOTY for 2006, but this one was definately right up there with them. I actually really liked the ending because it showed Gail Kim's cleaverness and once again showed that without Gail, AJ & Daniels can beat AMW. It was just a matter of getting rid of her.

Raven vs. A-1

I didn't think this match was too bad. It was pretty old school and told a basic story. Whoever got rammed into the exposed steel was going to lose the match because they set that up to be the main spot that mattered. It was decent. At least as good as you were going to get out of A-1 anyway.

Rhino vs. Bobby Roode

This was one of the early signs of TNA wanting to show off Roode as a singles star. He did alright in there with Rhino. Nothing special here, but not bad. Robert Roode has definately improved since then.

Team 3D vs. James Gang

Surprisingly decent. Now if you want to see these teams at their best, check out the Bingo Hall brawl from Slammiversary. But yeah, this was a good match up between two veteran teams, and it delivered well enough for my tastes.

Team USA vs. Team Canada vs. Team Mexico vs. Team Japan: World X Cup Gauntlet

X Gauntlets are always a lot of fun, and this was no exception. It was basically just a spotfest, and for that it was fun to watch and provided some great action. Also, Nash's appearance after the bout was over was a PERFECT set up for that awesome angle they did with Nash against The X Division. Now unfortunately we never got a big payoff to it, but in its infancy, the angle was probably the hottest and most interesting thing in TNA.

Sting & Samoa Joe vs. Jeff Jarrett & Scott Steiner

I was really looking forward to this match and it proved to be a very entertaining contest. It was great to see Joe interact with guys like Sting, Jarrett, and especially Steiner in his first go around in the heavyweight division. Joe & Steiner have an amazing chemistry. Say what you will about Steiner, but when they pitched that match to me, I bought into it because it instantly became a battle of who is the bigger bad ass and it worked wonderfully. This match was very entertaining, and a big moment for Samoa Joe, so if you need a reason to check out this PPV, I think this match is definately a major one.

Christian Cage vs. Abyss: NWA World Title Full Metal Mayhem Match

There was just no way in holy hell these two were going to top that amazing match they had at Lockdown, but they gave us a nice action packed match here and a pretty damn good main event. It also served as a nice payoff to the awesome feud these two had so it worked like gold.

Final Thoughts

Like I said, from LD06 to Slammy06 is probably my favorite string of TNA PPVs, and this particular show served as a great middle to this trilogy of awesomeness. Lots of great matches, tons of excitment, and just an all around fun PPV that I definately recommend.

Match Rankings:
1) AMW vs. AJ/Daniels
2) Sting/Joe vs. Jarrett/Steiner
3) Christian vs. Abyss
4) Petey vs. Liger
5) X Gauntlet
6) Rhino vs. Roode
7) Team 3D vs. James Gang
8) Raven vs. A-1
