Destination X 2008

1. LAX vs. MCMG vs. RNR Infection for the #1 Contendership for the TNA Tag Team Championship
If I remember correctly this match wasn't even announced on Impact and just kind of appeared on the website's PPV card, kind of ironic as this ended up being the MOTN IMO. This match was everything you could want in an opener and more with its fast pace and good spots. All 6 men did a good job making this match exciting and showing the world what a great opener is all about. LAX picked up the win after the epic last few moments where everybody was hitting a big move. ****

2. Petey Williams vs. Jay Lethal for the X Division Championship
Really good match here, about what you'd expect from these two. The match kept up a great pace and each wrestler taking turns showing off their signature moves. The ending was pretty unexpected with Co Cal getting involved, there was no way I saw that coming. I honestly thought that Petey had won when he hit the Destroyer but I was wrong. Still, a good match with an ending I thought was nice because I didn't expect it and helped further the Lethal/Sonjay/Val storyline. ***1/4

3. Kaz and Eric Young vs. Black Reign and Rellik
On paper this match looks like rubbish but it ended up being quite watchable. Kaz worked his ass off in this match to make the others look good and Rellik doing most of the wrestling for his team instead of Black Reign helped alot. This match also saw the birth of Super Eric that proceeded to annoy us for the next several months. But putting that aside the match itself was solid, nothing more nothing less. **1/2

4. ODB vs. Gail Kim vs. Awesome Kong for the TNA Knockouts Championship
I was looking forward to this match more than any other on the card tbh because the Knockouts Division was probably at its peak at this point. All three women did a good job at helping make this match great! It had a fast pace, made Kong look strong and had a good story of Gail and ODB trying to topple the monster. The match was going great and ended with a confrontation between ODB and Kong that was imo better than their match at Against All Odds. The ended seemed just a little off because it seemed to come out of nowhere, I remember thinking "Where the hell was Gail" as she was out the last few minutes. But that didn't take much away from this very good match. ***1/4

5. Curry Man and Shark Boy vs. Team 3D in a Fish Market Street Fight
WAY better than I expected it to be. Going into this match I didn't expect a match at all, I expected a pointless meaningless brawl which in a way it was but still it was better than expected. As far as comedy matches go they don't get much better than this, it involved Brother Ray french kissing a dead fish, low-blows using fish and DW showing off his fish knowledge. Aside from the comedy stuff there was some good wrestling action in this match. I'll give it some extra points for actually making me laugh at a couple points.
**3/4

6. Booker T vs. Robert Roode in a "Stand by Your Man" Strap Match
The stip going into this match was that the winner's valet would get to whip the loser's valet 10 times with the leather strap. I found the Strap stip to be good but the added stip was pretty pointless if you ask me. That and the match itself was a huge disappointment, both men can do way better. The was some good back and forth action but it didn't last long and didn't live up to the good build-up this match had. Watchable I guess but not what you'd expect from these guys. **

7. James Storm vs. Rhino in an Elevation X Match
Honestly I don't know how to rate this match, all I know is that it does what its suppose to and keep you on the edge of your seat. It wasn't as good as last years match probably because it didn't have an athlete the caliber of AJ in it. For my last comment I'll say thumbs up for doing its job but please TNA never have this match again, it's too much of a hazard. N/A

8. The Unlikely Alliance (Samoa Joe, Christian Cage and Kevin Nash) vs. The Angle Alliance (Kurt Angle, AJ Styles and Tomko)
I'm sure like most people going into this PPV I was thinking wtf? Another 6-man tag main event on PPV? But atleast this match made some sense with Joe wanting to take care of the alliance before meeting Angle for the World Title. Another thing is this match actually delivered, in fact it ended up being a great match and a great main event. All 6 men hit great moves and helped move the match along nicely. The back and forth action and the build for the next month's PPV was done very well here as Joe looked like a beast. Great match one that I would recommend checking out if you have some time. ***1/2

Conclusion: This was another good PPV from TNA! While not as good of a wrestling show as AAO (8/10) it was still a good watch. The first half of the show was brilliant and some matches were way better than expected (Kaz and Young vs. Reign and Rellik, Fish Market Street Fight). But the problem was that two of the big matches didn't deliver (Roode vs. Booker, Rhino vs. Storm) and that hurt that PPV a bit. But the main event ended the show on a high note and made this a good DVD to pick up if you want to keep up with TNA's releases. I'd give this show...

7.5/10

Good review of DX 08, I really enjoyed that show too. I think my ratings were:

MCMG/LAX/RNRI-***3/4
Petey/Lethal-***1/2
Kaz/EY vs Reign/Rellik-**3/4(Surprisingly pretty solid)
ODB/Kong/Kim-***1/2
Curry/Sharky vs Team 3D-***(Again, big surprise)
Booker/Roode-**1/4(Just way too short)
Storm/Rhino-*
Joe/Cage/Nash vs Styles/Tomko/Angle-***1/4-***1/2

So yeah it's actually really underrated, I think now that I look at my ratings it's right on par with AAO for the 3rd best TNA PPV this year IMO.

Its weird that they never let Roode & Booker have a showstealing match, because I know they could have had one just because of the way the feud was built.

^Very true, the best match they had was probably the first blood match on the 3/27 live Impact.

Booker/Sharmell vs Roode/Brooks-FR-*3/4
Booker/Roode-AAO-**3/4-***(This was great, until the lame finish)
Booker/Roode-DX-**1/4(Again, way too short)
Roode/Booker-Impact 3/27-***
Booker/Sharmell vs Banks/Roode-Lockdown-**3/4(I enjoyed this live but it should've been a 1 vs 1 final battle)

So yeah, they never got a really great match like they could have.

Great review Effect, DX was a very solid and entertaining show, Id have to watch it again to give definitive ratings but the Opener was fun as hell. Fish market while a ridiculous stip was a good match too.

And I agree, that Booker/Roode feud had great build but they never let them have a memorable match. To many mixed tags and gimmick matches in that whole program.

I agree on the Roode vs. Booker matches, the feud had great build and heat but none of the matches really delivered.

Here are my ratings

FR: **1/4
AAO: ***
DX: **
Impact: ***1/2 (I loved this match)
Lockdown: That's my next DVD to watch and review

Against all odds (2006)

1.) The Naturals vs. Austin Aries & Roderick Strong - ***
Solid opener and some good tag action.

2.) Shelley vs. Lethal vs. Petey vs. Matt Bentley - ***
Expected a bit more but this was another good match. Not your usual spotty X-division stuff as the action was mostly contained in the ring. Bad finish with Jackie Gayda coming out and pummeling Shelly lol. Man Lethal was WAY over in this match.

3.) Lax vs The James Gang - *3/4
LaX had some guy named Machete in there to tag with Homicide. This match was very very average. Konnan runs from 66 year old Bob Armstrong at the end lol.

4.) Tag titles - AMW vs. Sabin/Dutt - ***1/4
Sabin and dutt won some tourney to get this title shot. The majority of the match consisted of AMW working over Sabin's leg who I believe was legit hurt coming into the match. Good match but AMW seemed a bit lost with Sonjay's offense and it made for some awkward transitions.

5.) Falls Count Anywhere Match Rhino vs. Abyss - ***3/4
This is a great insanely fun bloody brawl. It goes all over the impact zone and even outside. There are some slow times with them setting up the spots but boy is the payoff worth it. One of the sickest spots I've seen in Tna. Abyss had earlier set up 4 stacked tables on the side of the ramp. Later as they brawled in the stands, Abyss destroys the side wall and gets ready to choke slam him only to be GORED!!!! Sending him flying down into the tables! Great stuff.

6.) X title - Joe vs Styles vs Daniels - ****1/4

The much anticipated rematch and while it doesn't quite live up to the Unbreakable one it's still an incredible match. The chemistry between the 3 is so good making for amazingly crisp fast paced action. What I liked is that they didn't try and recreate the first 3-way and focused on making something completely different. MOTN for sure.

7.) Team 3D vs. Team Canada - **3/4
Another good match, but the bulk of it was spent on TC working over Brother Devon for a good 10 minutes or so. I really gotta wonder why this was so high up in the card.

8.) NWA title match - Christian Cage vs Jeff Jarrett - ***

So the whole show Zbyszko insist that there will be No outside interference and the match will be fair. Anyone caught breaking these rule would be "Fired." So what happens? Gail Kim practically interferes the entire time (if they were serious why not barr her from ringside...) She does pull off a great top rop hurra and takes a sick powerbomb later on though. Hebner is the ref here and for some reason they insist on referencing the Montreal Screwjob... Tons of ref bumps, guitar shots, the works. They match itself was pretty good and they build up the finish nicely. The ending was also very well done as the crowd literally erupted as the 3 count sounded. The ppv ends with the impact zone running into the ring (along with Rhino) to celebrate the new champ.

Overall: This is a great ppv. The overall match quality is consistent throughout and of course the Unbreakable rematch is all kinds of greatness again. Awesome moment at the end with Cage but if you're gonna promise having a "clean" match and do the complete opposite it kinda sucks.
