With WWE now going after the top indy talent and other alternatives such as Lucha Underground springing up, it is becoming increasingly difficult for TNA to attract the top talent to their company. In such a situation, a need arises for TNA to scout for their own talent and develop them and make them TV-ready.
The GutCheck I'm talking about isn't the segment on Impact, but the tryouts TNA held every month in conjunction with their house shows. It allowed TNA to look at dozens of hopeful wrestlers looking to make it in the business. You may even find a diamond in the rough among those wrestlers. And what better place to train them than OVW?
OVW has gained a reputation for producing a long list of many of the top talent in both WWE and TNA, names like Brock Lesnar, Batista, John Cena, Victoria, Doug and Danny Basham, Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, Randy Orton, Bobby Lashley, Mr. Anderson, Matt Morgan, D'Angelo Dinero, Mickie James, ODB, Christy Hemme, Gail Kim, Winter, Tara, Rob Conway, Eugene, Sylvan Grenier, Alex Silva, Taeler Hendrix, Jessie Godderz, Rockstar Spud, Rob Terry and Lei'D Tapa.
OVW is the perfect place to develop your talent, and TNA would do well to make them their developmental territory again. It would also be the platform for talent with not much experience in the business to hone their skills and perfect their craft before making it to the main roster.
