NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 27, 2015) --- TNA Entertainment today announced Billy Corgan, founder of the Smashing Pumpkins and creative icon, is joining TNA Wrestling as Senior Producer, Creative and Talent Development, effective immediately. In this position, Corgan will develop characters and create story lines for TNA’s flagship program IMPACT WRESTLING, broadcast Friday nights at 9/8c on Destination America, as well as other TNA programming.

“I’ve known Billy for years and have always been blown away by his musical artistry, as well as his knowledge and understanding of professional wrestling,” said TNA President Dixie Carter. “He has always impressed me with his creativity and passion for our business. Billy is truly gifted and understands the emotion tied to the psychology of connecting with an audience. The more we talked, the more I realized his perspective has the potential to make a huge impact on our brand.”

“Saying I’m humbled and honored by this opportunity to be part of TNA, a world-class wrestling organization, is an understatement and a dream come true,” said Corgan. “What’s great is the entire TNA organization stands in full support of my music life with the Smashing Pumpkins. In return, I’m fully committed to using my 30 years of entertainment experience, along with my deep-rooted passion for pro wrestling, to take on the thrilling challenge of creatively contributing to IMPACT WRESTLING, finding and developing new talent, and working eye-to-eye with the best-of-the-best. For as cultures currently evolve at great speed, so must pro wrestling meet and supersede such expectations to thrive.”

Corgan joins a gifted group of creative writers led by TNA Executive Vice President of Television and Talent John Gaburick. In addition to partnering with his creative colleagues in writing compelling and emotionally engaging story lines for TNA programming, Corgan will attend TNA television tapings where he will serve as a senior producer, working with TNA’s roster of world-class athletes including veterans such as TNA World Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy and Gail Kim, as well as a fresh crop of Superstars led by Ethan Carter III, Bram, Rockstar Spud and more.

“As an iconic songwriter and performance artist, Billy stands as a true powerhouse,” said Gaburick. “I also find him to be an ardent historian of professional wrestling and a true visionary. We knew Billy would bring a great viewpoint when we offered, and he graciously accepted, to attend a recent creative summit. During those meetings, Billy’s pioneering perspectives and collaborative approach made it quickly evident we needed to bring him on as a permanent member of our team.”

TNA programming, which features unparalleled professional wrestling entertainment through its innovative high-flying X-Division, the best women’s division on the planet in the TNA Knockouts, and incomparable Tag Team action, is seen by millions of viewers each week in more than 120 countries around the world.

Post of the fucking year and only 1 like. DaFuQ!?!?

Let me break it down for you fucktards here.
The line is from probably the most popular smashing pumpkins songs chorus and poster uses as he is pissed off from the Corgan news but yet can't do anything about it, hence he's still just a rat in a cage.... you people are sooo :eli3

Now what I must say is If you're going to go this route, you must meet the necessary writing standards that can atleast be up to par with the popular shows of Modern Television. No breaking continuity, or randomly dropping angles etc

I dont think anything will change drasticly. Maybe they'll resign Orlando Jordan for couple of month, maybe AR Fox (and this isn't bad) maybe will get some weird KOs storyline (Angelina-Wnter says hi) or maybe even they'll sign someone like AAAs ****** guy or whatever he\she is.

But I think I described worst possible scenarios. I dont think that serious storylines will take place. + if he's for the gender equality (am I got it right?) we may see Candice and Joey. I also hope he'll invest some money to hire new talent. I mean why would Dixie give him this spot if not because he can bring something valuable?

Dixie isn't as stupid as people want t think. She signed him for a reason

Jesus A Christ.

Of course Dixie would give the red carpet to some random star just cause he's famous.

Him being a ECW fan from way back I thought would be positive but not seeing a ****** Champ.

I figure Corgan is not a big fan of "middle America".

Well if this doesn't work out, he could always play Gru if they do a live action version of Despicable Me.

Quotes from the Article:

“There is a tremendous opportunity to go into really fresh, new directions,” Corgan explained in an interview. Having characters who explore race or transgender issues is certainly a possibility, he suggested.
TNA is betting that it can bring new fans to the arena by giving a stronger nod to cultures with growing influence in American society.
Corgan believes his ideas will “ break new ground.” In 2015, he said, “Those social and cultural issues that are sort of a ‘don’t go there’ subject” will result in themes that will feel more meaningful to current audiences. “I think there’s an endless supply of things in our culture where people are dealing with race or with gender, etc., and you can get into these things in a way that is both revelatory and enlightening. Treated the right way, ultimately, the good guy wins. The right ideas win.”
The last thing we need in pro-wrestling is Social Justice. It enrages me that this is happening. These people love to dabble in areas in which they have absolutely no interest in and change it to suit their desires.

I've been watching TNA for five years now and some of the fondest memories I've had of the company came from 2011 when the X-Division was coming back to the caliber it used to be at. Just two years later, quite possibly the most embarrassing segment airs; Hogan leaves the company while Dixie literally clings to his leg like a promiscuous puppy. That was the closest I'd ever come to never turning to Spike TV again, but I hoped it would get better with time.

Last year they made some right decisions and I'd hoped they could turn things around. But this...this may be the final straw. I hate "Social Justice" just as much as I hate its keyboard warriors(Social Justice Warriors). If TNA begins to air this guy's leftist propaganda, they'd quite possibly be attracting a demographic that may attempt to make pro-wrestling as a whole much more PC...so much so it would become unrecognizable. Professional Wrestling has inherently always been about the core themes of good versus evil, and while I would enjoy more storylines that are "grey", that does that mean I would want to tune into stories involving trannys fighting for acceptance in the division they "feel" they belong to.

TL;DR: If TNA turns into Tumblr..I'm done.

I was really surprised when I read this early today. Far as I know there were no rumors of this happening. While this is not as huge for TNA as some fans might think it is still a big deal. Billy has a lot of positives that he brings to TNA.

1) He is a fan of and has passion for wrestling. Now some might say big deal but yet one of the knocks on other writers for wrestling, especially those signed by WWE, is they know nothing about wrestling. He might put a different spin on things but I think he understands and appreciates the foundation of wrestling and the stories.

2) He has some experience with running a promotion. They only put on a few shows but they got good buzz. From what I have read he was in charge since it was his promotion so I am sure he saw things that worked and more importantly that did not with his company.

3) He is a creative guy. I am not a fan of his per say but have read that he has a good mind and lord knows TNA could use someone like that.

4) He has connections. Both in the general entertainment world and in the wrestling world. This means he might be able to sign some good talent, if even just for a few months at a time for a couple months of taping. There is also the possibility he could help with ring entrances. Grado fans, imagine if Billy can talk Madonna to letting Grado use her song for his entrances on Impact.

5) He might be able to bring in new viewers. Impact IS a TV show and lives and dies on viewers. And there is nothing wrong with shining a bit of light on social topics while entertaining. Be it economical injustice (Million Dollar Man, EC3, Mr McMahon) or racial issues (Nation of Domination, Latino World Order) or even gender/sexual orientation (Adrian Adonis, Golddust) it has been done before. No it should not be all in your face and dominate the programming. But for those that are worried about that just remember this. While Billy may be head of creative or whatever his title he is not running the show. There are other writers. There is Dixie. And most of all there is DA. If he starts to go to far odds are real good one or more of those will reel him in. As far as putting some thought provocative story lines what is the problem. Those complaining about it sound like the whiners who did not like those commercials during the Super Bowl. "Oh I just want to sit on my fat ass, eat too much and watch football and funny commercials. Do not make me think. It hurts my lil head. Gives me a tummy ache in my head."
