Official TNA signs w/Destination America Thread

Yeah another thread I'm done after this one.

To follow up with what Dave Scherer wrote on the site, we are hearing from TNA sources that their new TV deal is expected to finally be announced this coming week.

TNA has a firm hold on the Manhattan Center in NYC on 1/6/15, 1/7/15 and 1/8/15.

We are also hearing that this Wednesday's episode of Impact Wrestling will be the final episode on SpikeTV and that the originally planned "best of" episodes will not be airing on Spike after all. It may be that TNA is waiting for the Spike episodes to complete their run before they announce where they are heading.
UPDATE

We can confirm that we have been told by a few TNA sources that the company is indeed done with Spike TV and is expected to begin airing on a new partner in January of 2015. For those asking why so many people from within the company were tweeting about Spike and Bellator last night, we have been told that TNA and Spike are not having an acrimonious break up. TNA will still have a connection with Spike through Bobby Lashley and at this point, the December episodes of Impact are still scheduled to air on Spike at this time. Unlike when Spike cut off negotiations with WWE years ago, costing them money in their TV deal with USA as their leverage was taken away, this situation is said to be the opposite.

The new TV deal is said to be extremely close to completed, if it’s not already. We have heard from numerous sources that it will be a multi-year deal, which means TNA will have at least two more years on the air. It should be noted that many have speculated that the company was going to die at the end of the year, as some felt that they wouldn’t be able to find a new home for Impact. Barring and unforeseen development, that will not be the case. TNA will live on.

All signs point to it getting done in the next week, as Dixie Carter tweeted last week that they would announce a deal soon. We have been told that it will air on a smaller, lesser known network. While no one will confirm where the show will end up, there has been a lot of talk that it will end up on Destination America, which is owned by Discovery Communications (you can see if you have access to the channel by clicking here). It is available in a little more than half of the country, though speaking personally it is not currently available on the plan I have with Cox. I will have to pay to add it here in Las Vegas.

All signs point to the fact that the new deal will bring in less money than the old one did, at least at the start. However, with the new deal the company will have more opportunities in other areas. They will reportedly be able to have more programming on the network than just Impact and they will be the bellwether brand for the new partner, putting them in a position where they will be a top priority for the new network. They will be in a position to potentially help grow a network. Even if they can’t, once the deal is signed they will have at least two more years to “start again” and that will be their plan once they start doing new shows in January.

Wow, you suck at answering questions.
Not as bad as you suck at asking them.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly About Destination American

Since so many people seem to have trouble understanding the Destination America deal, we need to break this shit down, good and bad.:

The Good: More programming/weekly hours have already been confirmed without a debut having been made. This shows that Destination America at least has some big confidence in what TNA could do in what seems like a new direction Discovery is going with the network.

Discovery apparently has big plans for TNA and wants to actually build the "new" (I'm assuming), Destination America around them according to reports. This means they'll be open to helping them financially, as TNA will essentially be the network's biggest draw. And there's already rumors that ADR has signed with TNA and will debut at the first set of Destination America tapings. Don't be surprised if TNA signs a few more people to boost ratings for the first couple of debut episodes.

The Bad: A lot of the fan base (in America and Canada), is going to alienated from the live broadcast (and by live I mean having aired on it's normal timeslot). So this is going to hurt ratings a bit, anyone thinking TNA is getting their 1.0 rating again can stop, that's a pipe dream now, thankfully more weekly hours makes up for it.

The Ugly: While I'm certain Discovery plans to help TNA financially, it won't be pumping Spike TV level cash, because Discovery is no where near Viacom's level in terms of income/revenue. Top stars might also still leave due to less money.

There's more good than bad with the deal, but the shit that is bad is pretty worrying. And TNA still could be in potential trouble, and what's worse is Discovery basically signed them to a "wait and see" deal for 2 years instead of something like 5.

Well, fuck.

If it's not Spike, it's probably somethng that covers ~60 millions homes at best. And I cant pretend that it's still good only because it's still a TV channel.

Unless it's WGN or ION, I guess tna wont be the same again.

I can't take TNA seriously at all with their constant "wait for it, it's coming soon" promises that've gone on for years from everything from big surprises to new stars and now a TV deal.

Not once has TNA themselves actually promised anything. Between the newz sites and Dave Meltzer, there have been about 4 or 5 different times where it was "reported" to be a done deal and an incoming announcement was happening very soon. But no official word from anyone within TNA. Instead, you had TNA employees who likely knew the deal and what was going on telling people via social media that the internet was wrong.

Up until Dixie replied to somebody on Twitter, there was no mention from anybody within TNA. PWInsider (who actually gets things right IMO) just now made a prediction on when it will come. Meltzer is now saying the same thing.

So you saying that you can't take them seriously at all based on their constant promises of a tv deal announcement makes no sense.

Re: TNA TV deal definitely announced next week after final Impact on Spike - PWInside

They're going to have to get lean in terms of costs, hope that they can get a regular soundstage deal in Florida again, and rely on their international deals to make it through. They're going to risk losing whatever name talent they have left under contract unless WWE won't touch them in which case they might take per-booking deals with TNA. It'll be a tough go. They have to tighten things up creatively and Dixie Carter has to get the stars out of her eyes and stop using the show as a vehicle for herself. Then I guess we'll see.

It's seems like they're pretty done with Universal, though of course you can never say never. It seems like at least in the beginning they're going to stick with the multi-night taping system they did for most of 2014. They actually started doing that in Orlando after they pulled Impact from the road, so they could do it there too I guess.

I think most people that have cable or satellite have more than the "basic" package. There's no point of getting cable if you just going to get the basic package. What is consider basic cable anyway these days, 70 channels????

The fact that they will have more than Impact on this network is a plus. Always a good thing to have more material out there to shop internationally.

No facts.

All speculation.

Re: TNA TV deal definitely announced next week after final Impact on Spike - PWInside

I'm in the same boat as the fans who might not be watching wrestling much any more if TNA goes under. Fortunately I have El Rey, so I am able to watch Lucha Underground (I've enjoyed it so far), so I'll have that for the rest of the year at least to watch. I believe they will have off seasons though with that unfortunately, I really hope it lasts and isn't a flash in the pan like Wrestling Society X.

I've been watching TNA every week for 11 years, since the weekly PPV days. I actually became a WWF fan in 2001 so I didn't get to see WCW while it was on (I have since watched tons of WCW and love it), but around 2007 the WWE started to get really tedious to watch, and for the last 6 years or so I've really been an on and off casual WWE viewer, so TNA has remained my only weekly professional wrestling show. TNA isn't perfect, but the presentation of the show is more appealing to me than WWE, WWE's PG era vibe is just too corny, and there's too many matches with no storyline behind them and a total lack of character development.

TNA at its worst doesn't feature the endless app plugs and milquetoast WWE vibe, it at least feels like a show directed at someone my age, so even when the show sucks like during the meat of the Aces & 8's angle, it's not totally annoying me with stupid 9.99 jokes, or putting me to sleep with a 20 minute Kofi Kingston match, it's something I can put on in the background and glance up at when there appears to be story development. Raw also takes up 3 hours on my DVR which is far too much, especially when they go past the overrun a lot, and it's just not worth the DVR space to me outside of when The Rock or Brock Lesnar is around. The only non nostalgia storyline they've done in the last couple of years that caught my attention was the Daniel Bryan/Triple H feud, but now Bryan's on the shelf unfortunately.

Also when it comes to NXT, I've watched some episodes and it has that same WWE cheeseball sanitized vibe. I also don't give a shit about the workrate type stuff unless there's a big storyline behind it, so the barrage of smart mark guys they're signing doesn't matter to me unless these guys develop captivating characters like a Daniel Bryan was able to do. ROH's product also lacks the story/promos I like on a wrestling show whenever I check it out, their product was much better to me back in 2005-2006 around the time of the CZW angle, the shows felt exciting. I also don't get ROH on TV, and the way they do it online posting the episodes a week later and not letting you watch all of the recent episodes is really stupid. I watched their PPV in June and the lighting of that show made TNA's recent Bethlehem tapings look great by comparison, and these Bethlehem tapings are some of TNA's worst ever shows production value wise.

Re: TNA TV deal definitely announced next week after final Impact on Spike - PWInside

Has anyone yet posted any FACTS that there's been a TV deal yet?

Because the words "definitely announced" imply that there's evidence.

Re: TNA TV deal definitely announced next week after final Impact on Spike - PWInside

Seeing as how their main show loses viewers why would there be demand for a second show ?
How about this company stops thinking 3 steps ahead and right now just worry about getting a tv deal.

Re: TNA TV deal definitely announced next week after final Impact on Spike - PWInside

Well to be fair i hadn't read that part, I was gone. Musta missed it.

As for more programming? Prove to me that you can get the one you have now in order and THEN talk to me about another. Don't ask to ride a bike if you can't handle a tricycle first!

Edit: And saying "BUT DIXIE SAYS" as an argument means jack to me. Zero. Dixie knows NOTHING.

There IS A TNA style. It's called being underpaid and mistreated by your bosses. :lol
Agreed 2013 to on, not so much then. BTW I CLARFIY I am not sure if I agree with SOR or disagree with him, if he is saying them not developing them is bad, then I respectfully disagree ,but if he say they just don't then I agree.
