During a recent appearance on Wrestling Observer Radio, AJ Styles stated that he’s already made more money this year working the independent scene and with NJPW than he would have for the entire year of 2014 under the new deal TNA offered him.
TNA reportedly offered Styles a deal that could have earned him upwards of $200,000.
Styles also noted that by the end of the year, he could do as well as he did in 2013 with TNA, Styles reportedly made $350,000 that year.
Since Styles is now working the independent scene and NJPW, they pay for his hotel rooms and travel expenses.
He is also able to control his merchandise sales. TNA did not cover road expenses, and would have only gotten a percentage of merchandise sales.
Re: AJ Styles on him making way more working independent than what TNA would offer hi
It's a different Styles from the P1 days but still great, he adjusted his character and in ring style in 2013 to a more "puro-ish" theme. Now he swims in his water with 30mins plus matches and no pressure on the mic. I guess NJPW should send TNA a thank you note.
Re: AJ Styles on him making way more working independent than what TNA would offer hi
It's not a question of needing but how they reinvented his character, put the WHC on him and then released him hot as fuck to the indies like make money out of us... you're welcome.

A) You said baseball was #1 in America. That's wrong.
B) It's a very well known fact that TNA loses way more than $1 million per year. Like way more. According to Heyman, in 2010, TNA had been in debt of upwards of $70 million. But keep defending them because you're an uneducated mark. Not saying Heyman is the most trustworthy guy, but it's not like it's something that doesn't seem extremely plausible.

Pretty badass (and of course commendable) that he made The Lone Wolf gimmick work in TNA and still does even though he left them by getting a nice amount of coin as a free agent. bama

Holy shit, that's pretty damn nice, very happy for AJ Styles. He deserves it, not everybody wrestling outside WWE makes a comfortable living earning money in the middle-high 6 digits range. To me that is a Testament to AJs true value, I doubt they would pay so much money for him if it wasn't a profitable deal to them which means he must be a good merchandise and audience draw for the NJPW/Indy Shows.

New Japan pays its talents very well. Karl Anderson last year reported he was making over half a million working for them. I'd wager guys like Alex Shelley are also being paid well over there. The only possible guys who aren't are the Young Lions who are in training. The Young Bucks joined NJPW last year because they offered them more than what TNA was offering.
Re: AJ Styles on him making way more working independent than what TNA would offer hi
Why is this a surprise? AJ Styles is the most valuable full-time wrestler on the indy scene. Every single promotion in the world would love to feature him on their shows (apart from WWE it would seem.) All he needs to do is let his agent book him out around the globe, getting him big pay-days and top reactions, appearing in front of different crowds.
Re: AJ Styles on him making way more working independent than what TNA would offer hi
To be fair, AJ is asking alot of money for working indies. Some of the bigger ones, like ROH and DGUSA are paying him upwards of $5000.00 a show. It's not hard to make more than TNA when he is one of the biggest draws on the indies and can get big bucks. Most other wrestlers are not as big as he is in the IWC and couldn't get that type of money on the indies.
TNA still pays more than any other company on it's own, outside of WWE
Now that is not to say that TNA shouldn't pay more. But as it is, they can't afford it. The Carters don't take TNA serious as a business. To them, it's just a side interest that Dixie wanted them to buy So they won't put any real money into it. Ticket sales do nothing, since most of their shows are in the Impact Zone and they can't charge admission. Their PPV buys are down, and with only 4 shows, they don't bring in any real money. The only constant revenue source are house shows and merchandise, but they bring in very little. Unless they get goos sponsors, and a new owner who is interested in pro wrestling as their primary business, I doubt TNA will pay enough to get AJ, or Christian Cage, or any of the old top guys interested.
Re: AJ Styles on him making way more working independent than what TNA would offer hi
The matches with Okada was good but VERY overated by a lot of fans, they are not better matches than the classics he had in tna with daneils, kaz, joe, roode, and even some of the areis matches, hell the match with areis was better. I think people tend to underated anything tna does because the product has been because they are mad (and rightfully so) at tna, but I think we are going to take away credit from guys like Areis and even Roode and Storm(look up their 2012 match) because of the hatred of what tna has become, but should not take credit away from guys who work their ass off just because they put on a good match in company that they hate. The match was good but there are even matches in New Japan that were WAY better.
While I don't believe Dave Meltzer hates tna, he seems to favor a lot of what New Japan does as flawless because he has a huge respect for the company and tna has done a lot of stupid shit so he does not have respect for it.

I'm amazed that guys like Ezekiel Jackson, Snitsky, Crazy Steve, King Mo, Tommy Dreamer, D-Von Dudley and Rhino can be on the TNA roster but they don't want AJ Styles. Absolutely amazed.

Personally I would prefer to work TNA schedule with 3-4 dates a month for 200 000$ than working in Japan and indies for more money.
But I'm lazy ass and AJ got family. Anyway hope TNA will make him a good offer once his NJPW deal is over.

Re: AJ Styles on him making way more working independent than what TNA would offer hi
Nice, compared to the list (probably bullshit but..) that was posted a few days ago, based on 2012 earnings 350k, would put him in the Big E/Santino (£250k, 2012) bracket.
Lets see the last TNA to WWE person would be RVD on 650k.
He's the holder of currently the most prestigious title in Japan. He's not just a name on the indies like Sabin, Daniels, and Kazarian. He'll be making some very good moolah for the rest of his career.
Re: AJ Styles on him making way more working independent than what TNA would offer hi
WWE isn't afraid of signing AJ lol They simply don't see enough value in him at his age to justify his money mark.
AJ will be a happy man if he never sees Dixie again, even if TNA gave him the money he wants I don't think he would take it.

If they see value in a short agile wrestler that can't talk like Bryan, it's weird to me that they wouldn't find value in AJ.
