Bryan Alaverez on the deal

Quote:
A source who has covered pro-wrestling in Japan for decades told us that, in fact, it's really not a big deal at all and nobody in Japan is talking about it. "As you know, unlike in the US, the Japanese cable penetration situation is terrible at best. It's very, very weak and most people only watch seven or eight terrestrial broadcast stations. Even within Tokyo, they carry different stations zone by zone, so we have no idea who can watch which station and who can't even if they have money to subscribe the channel. It's not a question of money; some districts simply didn't carry some stations. It's a mess. Movie lovers (especially Hollywood-made) like me may subscribe to the WOWOW station but that's about it. WOWOW is kind of like HBO, but they also broadcast boxing and UFC. The G+ station—who cares. Only Yomiuri Giants (the most popular baseball team with money in Tokyo) fanatics watch G+, because they always broadcast complete games no matter what. The terrestrial NTV station also carries important home games, so there is no need to watch G+ unless you are a crazy fan who wants to watch away games as well. I knew G+ carried TNA but I never watched it by myself, and I'm NOT an exception at all. None of the top wrestling/MMA critics in Japan ever watch G+ as well. Their whole press release is just propaganda."

At the end of the day, whether anyone in Japan watches TNA or not, the idea is to make as much money in rights fees as possible internationally. It's not like there are plans to tour Japan anytime soon, so if the company can make money off the deal, the viewership is pretty much unimportant.

No matter how many times you tell hardcore TNA ultras that G+ doesn't really matter, it's still not enough. Don't people remember the NOAH situation? Oh wait, they don't.

Dont think anyone is saying its negative. Just saying its not as big of a deal as some make it out to be.

This is not a new deal, or a new contract. It's just an extension.

As others have stated you need to learn reading comprehension. No one said it is a negative.

Re: TNA Announces Multi-Year Extension Of Major International Television Deal

Why would anyone go out of their way to say something isn't a big deal? Wouldn't your silence be a better argument...

The reason why we don't get fresh ideas and promotions rising in American Pro Wrestling is because the majority of the community is happy with the same old shit and will reject any chance of change. There is a risk in doing new things, 9 times out of 10, it leads to 50+ pages of bitching and moaning. While business gets turned into a dictatorship and more and more out of touch. Support the indies, support New Pro Wrestling.

Re: TNA Announces Multi-Year Extension Of Major International Television Deal

I only see this as a positive. Mostly because WWE has a habit and always will do ignoring competition. TNA if they play this whole AJ Styles travelling the world right they can take stock footage from these events and the 'friends of AJ' can broadcast it on Impact. Subsquently if/where these other promotions have TV deals in place, mentioning Styles and supporting his storyline can only be a good thing. My hope is TNA has finally realized that you cannot directly compete with the monster which is WWE, so finding ways of promoting their product outside of what WWE would ever do is a great avenue to go down.

I never said it was a big deal. But it's a TV deal nonetheless in a market that's still developing for TNA. I don't care if 500 people watch Impact in Japan. That's 500 more than before the original deal. Any revenue is good revenue, especially if it's in a market that you're trying to build a following in.

Yes, I realize this. Doesn't make a difference. The longer that TNA are on TV in Japan, the better.

Downplaying this news is just as bad. I don't see the need to prevent other TNA fans from being excited or happy about this. If you're not, fine but I'm not sure why there's such conviction in trying to make sure others know how you feel.

Oh noez, TNA extended a TV deal in Japan!!!! It's just odd.

Again Chris your read comprehension is appalling. No one is downplaying the news. Just the press release is wacky and the initial reaction to it was even wackier. Few knew that it was a brand new deal and even less knew about G+

You are just trolling at this stage. Over stating people's positions to discredit them is a very weak tactic.
