Sound does not automatically switch to HDMI TV output

I have a Gateway NV5812H, and this used to work fine before but now majority of the time I plug my HDMI in, the sound on the TV never picks the sound.

I than have to restart the laptop for it to recognize the sound, and this doesn't happen all the time but 8/10 times it does.

Re: Sound does not automatically switch to HDMI TV output

is the video on the motherboard or on a video card? Either way, it sounds (lol no pun intended) like a driver issue.

Yeah, I assumed it was drivers.

Do you know where to get the proper drivers from? or do you reccommend any certain ones?

if you bought the computer through a manufacturer, check the manufacturer's website under the downloads section. Alot of places have a driver search tool that allows you to look for the specific model of your machine and download the right drivers.

If you know the soundcard/video card make/model, I could help you find them.

http://support.gateway.com/us/en/pro...1&modelId=2378

should have drivers for you

To make sure drivers are properly uninstalled and updated properly, you should do the following:

1) download updated driver
2) uninstall old driver
3) reboot computer (to make sure all residual registry entries are removed)
4) install new driver
5) reboot computer

If you dont do it this way, you dont risk any damage, but improper driver installations can cause conflicts. This is the CLEANEST way to do it.
