Default Anyone got advice for a new phone?

I got really good advice on the YT broweserthread so I figured I would ask about phones now. Not about plans as I know all about them, but the actual phones itself.

My current phone is a little over 2 years old, so I figured I might get a new one within the next year, not that I'm in a rush at the moment as I have no problems.

I see ads on tv every day that this or that phone is the best. But lets face it, all phones pretty much do the same thing, have almost the same apps for the most used web sites, etc. So what difference does it matter what model phone we get?

Well for me it's 3 things. Longest battery life, ruggedness, and quality. I have a Samsung and a friend with a Nokia with the same service but the Nokia seems to keep it's signal strength much better in some buildings.

I could research a lot of models online, but most are hyped so its hard to tell which are really better than the other, especially with technology advances the past 2 years. So maybe pretty much all are the same now?

What type of phone do you all use now? Do you like the phone? Why and why not?

I have the iPhone 5, love it. Fuck the haters.

Siri also tells me there are no other viable phones available

The only Nokia phone worth buying right now is the Lumia 1020. It's got a 41 Megapixel camera that takes incredible pictures in low-light settings. The only problem is that the only OS that it's set up for is Windows Mobile, which is widely regarded as utter fucking shit.

If you're looking for "rugged" in a smartphone in 2013, you're going to have a hard time. Most phones that are good these days are constructed rather flimsily. The iPhone is the closest thing to "rugged" as you'll get, however. When it comes to choosing a new phone, it depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a friendly user-interface, the iPhone is probably what you should look at.

If user interface friendliness isn't too important (read: you can adapt to any UI), then an android phone might be what you're looking for. Android offers more user-flexibility and customization right out of the box. I'd suggest heading into a store and playing with each of the top phones on the market right now.

Galaxy S3/S4 are both PHENOMENAL phones, and run Android. iPhone 5 is the flagship phone for Apple right now, and as much as I don't like Apple, they do have offer a very solid product.

If I could offer one piece of advice. STAY AWAY from Windows-based mobile phones.

Great advice, I'll go play with a few, thanks!

Not sure if serious....Blackberry posted almost $100 million in losses last quarter, if I'm not mistaken. And they're looking to sell.

I just googled that phone. It does look nice. This is from an article 2 days ago, I am intrigued. Of course the article is biased written by a Blackberry lover, but it's worth a look. I'm skeptical about the pic quality though. I'll add it to the list of phones I look at.

BlackBerry Z10: Could It Be The "Perfect 10" Of Smart Phones?

The BlackBerry Z10 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core 1.5GHz processor, making it super fast on the web. I am a YouTube addict and spend almost every night watching videos on there while I am trying to fall asleep. The picture quality is remarkable and even clearer than when I watch them on my desktop (which is an iMac).

After basic email function--and I am thrilled with fast I got use to the virtual keypad on the Z10--I care most about being able to function well on Facebook and Twitter. Facebook photos looked clearer on the Z10 than on my desktop and I could scroll up and down my friends' and my home pages like lightning. With Twitter, I was able to move equally fast and do searches very easily.

The camera on the Z10 is fabulous and photos seem as clear and precise as when I use my regular Panasonic Lumix 14 Megapixel DMC-FH6 camera. The Z10 features an eight-megapixel backside-illuminating sensor and an LED flash, and offers a 5X optical zoom.

I like how it looks, here's what CNET has to say.

The good: RIM dug deep to give the slick-looking BlackBerry Z10 enough features to satisfy both consumers and professionals -- like a good camera and a sharp user interface.

The bad: The Z10's unintuitive gesture paradigm creates a learning curve, and a long list of OS inefficiencies and omissions sour the experience. The bare-bones maps app and a deficit of camera features are two examples.

The bottom line: Though it's not quite enough to draw committed iPhone or Android owners, the BlackBerry Z10's modern design and features give BlackBerry fans what they've hungered for.

BB was losing heavily with it's previous OS, but this Z10 features the new BB10 OS. Being the first phone to feature it, it's very very solid and superfast. With more BB10 phones about to come, there is yet hope.

As a phone, I have Nokia Lumia 800 and it works perfectly fine for me. Want 41 megapixels? Buy a camera.

100% what you're looking for is the HTC One. Very good build quality, amazing phone.

Super smooth, great OS, made of really good feeling metal, always have a good signal etc
