Internet Keeps Blocking Sites

I don't know what the fuck is going on, but this is pissing me off. For the last month or so my ISP has been randomly blocking websites, last month it blocked Yahoo for some ignorant reason, and I had to reset Firefox to get it back, but the first site it blocked remained blocked. Now I can't access IGN, fucking IGN. I haven't done anything to cause an ip ban, so I know it has nothing to do with that. I'm almost certain it's my ISP, because I'm able to view the first blocked site on TOR, but I haven't tried IGN on it today. Is there anyway I can get them back?

I was seeing the basic "firefox can not access" page as i was disconnected from the internet, but i used unblock it, and it seems to have temporarily/permanently unblocked all blocked sites, including the originally blocked one. No telling how long this will last, but if it continues with the next few weeks/month I'll either use it again, or pm you for a permanent solution.

Also it's cool about the pm, but I'll pm you for something else that you might be able to help with, check your pm in a few minutes after reading this post.

Re: Internet Keeps Blocking Sites

There are many ways to unblock blocked sites, I do it in my university all the time. You can Use web proxies,Use VPN connections, Hide IP software , translation services like google translate(post link of the blocked website in the translation field and choose a random language to translate from because translation from English to English is not supported.), Use Google cache, use Wayback Machine(wayback machines literally takes you back in time of a particular website but has recent pages to, for example 2 days old pages), Use Web2Mail service( free email service that can sent to your email address specific web pages),change the http of an URL into https(does not work most of the time but for some sites does), use IP address of the website instead of URL(cmd ping domain.com to find out the ip , this does not work everytime as well).
My apologies I didn't cover any option in detail but I hope this helps. And if you need to know more about any of this , ask.

Re: Internet Keeps Blocking Sites

I was hoping for a more permanent solution, rather than temporary unblock it seems like the best option right now though, without software downloads.

Re: Internet Keeps Blocking Sites

are you actually behind a school firewall, or is this a home ISP you're using? (comcast/fios/optimum online/rogers/telus/etc)

Permanent solutions might not be feasible options for you but you can:
1. Call your ISP and ask them to unblock the blocked sites.
2. Invest in a good paid VPN (can be expensive, the free ones are garbage).
3. Change ISP.
Just a thought . Could it be a naughty sibling messing with your computer? there are some free parental control software which run in the background(invisible) that can block the websites specified( I suspect this because from the sound of your OP , all of your favorite sites are getting blocked). Another way is to do it for browsers specifically by opening host file from C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc in a notepad , locate the line "127.0.0.1 localhost" or "::1 localhost." and append the site name than save file. A couple of other ways too. Do you have naughty siblings, cousins etc in your house these days?

Re: Internet Keeps Blocking Sites

there is absolutely zero reason for Vic to invest in a VPN if he's trying to access sites like IGN. I use a VPN, but not being able to access basic sites wasn't the reason I started doing so.

Calling the ISP to have the unblock the sites is a basic solution, but I dont think it's an ISP thing just yet.

Vic, is this happening in ANY browser? Try chrome/IE to see if the behavior replicates itself and then post your findings here. I'm inclined to think that something is amiss with the ipconfig or as therock said, maybe your hosts file.
