Default Whole town is a network deadzone

I was just wondering if you could help me with a bit of a dilemma. I live in Bedfordshire in the UK and a friend of mine who lives in a town 10 miles away tells me that his town is a total deadzone for Internet Connection. By that I mean that the Internet is slow as fuck on any kind of device in the whole town. At first I thought he may have been exaggerating - until I went there myself.

His Laptop (an Acer model) is brand new, his phone is an Iphone 4S, I brought my Macbook Pro and 4S down too and all of them were slow as hell (took 20 minutes to fully load a three minute Youtube video). We asked around and it seems to be the general notion for the area and nothing to do with the tech itself.

My buddy was wondering, basically, what the hell can he do? He's not too worried about the phone but mostly the laptop. Is there a software fix? Add-ons, plug-ins? He's tried the basic "Speed up your youtube" BS you see advertised all over, what he wants is something a little more concrete. He said he wouldn't mind spending money on it if he has to because he's hoping to use his Internet a lot for a new career venture but would really want to do without the hassle.

Any ideas?

This doesnt make a lick of sense

If your internet is slow, no software can change that. Or hardware. Its just slow. There is no magic button to make internet faster

Now, the only logical option would be just trying alternatives. try different internet companies. Satellite internet supposedly works even if youre in the middle of nowhere. 4G for the phone. Ask around town. If there arent any, move

basically what redead said....it's not the town, it's the company who laid lines in the town. Either their lines or shit, or the ISP is shit. There isnt anything you can do that would change your connection speed, unless you replace the lines in the town.

with regards to the satellite suggestion, you might want to ask Vic in this thread for opinions on that.He uses it and says he doesnt mind it. But their protocol transfer works differently than cable/dsl/broadband/wideband.
