Default Suggestions for an external hard drive?

Looking into buying one for the first time, mostly just for storing movies and tv shows. But I'm unsure which to get. Ideally something on the cheaper side of things, doesn't have to be massively big, but reliable. Any good suggestions?

Seagate. I'm not sure what your definition of massively big is, but you can pick up a 1tb here (Australia ) for about 60. You also have the 2 and 3 tb options as well, which work out slightly cheaper.

There are other brands out there llike western digital, but from my own experience, Seagate has been the best and most reliable.

I don't think I would meed more than a 2tb drive, unless it was a great deal. Which in that case, why not?

I'll check out Seagate. Easy to transfer to/from?

Yeah transferring from one drive to another is just as easy as cut/copy and then pasting.

You have two options; you have the powered external hard drives or the powerless drives that only run through the usb, which are slightly more expensive, but more portable. if you are just using it at home then the powered option is fine. If you have a laptop and want to use it on the train or whatever and want to access your data, then the powerless one might be a better option.

I just though I'd back up Bully's suggestion: Seagate is great. I use the portable backup and when I had to transfer files from my old computer to my new one it was unbelievably easy. Highly recommended.

Yep. Just plugs right in. It's basically like a huge memory stick.

yeh they do...but typically transfer times are a little bit slower than on an internal drive. It isnt noticeable, only on larger files.

My advice: shop locally. Better to pay a little extra than have one break if you consider your time money.
