Default Windows 7 vs. Windows 8

I've been going back and forth deciding on which one to get. I know the novelty of Windows 8 is having touch screen, which is nice but I don't think is that necessary to have. Another thing is I don't know if it's worth getting an All-in-one or stick with a regular desktop. I figured that there are some negatives with the All-in-ones such as something breaks and you are practically screwed. You can't really upgrade one as well. But I kinda like the design of some. The overall performance of both Windows 7 and 8 seems the same. So I'm kinda stumped on deciding which to get.

Windows 8 really turns me off, but alot of people like that interface style. I will always prefer the classic Windows style ui. The way they did up widows 8 really doesn't do anything for me

Ugh, it's not just some touchscreen gimmick. It has a standard desktop mode built into it; the Metro screen is more of a start screen than a go-to user interface. Go look at my last post in the 'Post Your Desktop Thread' and you'll see that Windows 8 has a completely normal desktop mode, minus the start button.

Would you recommend 8 over 7 though? Can you have more than one user account on 8?

which is what alot of windows users have grown accustomed to. Just because it's a small change, doesnt mean it's an insignificant change. Stop being so offended because people dont like your new OS.

Absolutely love Win8! It has replaced Win7 on both of my Desktops and my laptop. None of them are touchscreen but I don't need that anyways. I will not be going back to Win7.

I will admit I was a bit turned off on it at the beginning because it was quite different than what I was used to. Just looking back through the history of windows I saw that the little start button, which some people complain about being missing (but can put back in), has been the same since 1995! Once I learned how they changed things around and how to navigate I'm quite happy that they are finally changing things up.

Though, if someone is happy with using Win7 then they should probably stick with it till Win9 or 10. Win7 is a fantastic OS IMO. The only downside with waiting to upgrade is by the time 9/10 comes out and a user is ready to upgrade.. Well, who knows how much more difficult it will be for those people to learn the new OS if they stuck with Win7. Those who moved on to Win8 will have quite an advantage knowing how Windows has progressed.

I think windows 8 is great on touch screens, but silly otherwise. Wasn't it designed for a touch screen anyways?

I get both for free from my universtiy (PITT). I literally walked into the technology department and asked for "either 7 or 8." The guy was like, "you want them both?" Now I can't decide what to install on my new computer

I would go with a Windows 8, nothing wrong with trying out the new stuff. You can even revert to the classic windows style if anything. Well I usually like exploring new software when it comes out so I have no problem using a Windows 8.
