Avast has never let me down, since Sept 2011. (stopped using AVG)

I don't bother with AV. If you know what you're doing, you don't need one.

It's really for people that go onto Lamewire to download a 13kb file called "The darkkknightrisesmovie.exe.

Yeah as long as you don't download from stupid sources and do a bit of research before blindly clicking download, you should be fine.

I do sometimes wonder though, if it isn't the av companies themselves that release these viruses, then magically wow us with the solution. Forcing the naive consumer to spend their hard earned.

You can get a Virus/Spyware just by going to a website really wish people would educate themselves before making a statement like "You don't need a AV Program."

Also if it's free then their not getting any money if they were releasing the virus.

Yeah, from porn sites and UNTRUSTED sites. If you go to trusted websites like google, youtube etc. you will never get a virus.

I wasn't talking about free AV though was I? People wouldn't bother paying for added protection from Norton's and the like if it didn't offer anything more than the free equivalents now would it? So it wouldn't be such a wayout concept that they would get someone affiliated with the company to create the virus, already knowing how to crack it, hence proving themselves more attractive to the consumer. If you think big company's don't use tactics like this, you're kidding yourself.

That's why you need to use a proper firewall.

You can get a virus even with a firewall best thing is to be protected by a good AV program just my experience and watching shows like on Twit.TV which has the expert Leo Laporte answering questions about computer problems and other stuff relating to technology.

Re: AVG Anti Virus the best Anti Virus Program out there

Right now, I use a combination of "Norton security" (got it for free) and Mozilla Firefoxs "no script" (which basically protects you from many websites and hijacking attempts) and pop-up blocker. This combo has kept me spyware free for about 4 years now.

If I didn't have Norton, then I would probably use Malware Bytes or Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials. But yeah No Script may be a bit advanced for some people but if you eventually learn to use it, it could help you block many ads, and harmful JavaScript components meant to attack your PC. If you learn to use it, you can also speed up website loading by allowing only certain website content to load.

No script is (at least for me) easy to learn, but yeah, it helps quite a bit.
