Question Is Blu-Ray worth it?

http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2011/04/...-blue-blu-ray/

I found the above article interesting... apparently not that many people are rushing out to buy Blu-Ray players and maybe never will, especially with online movie services available, like Netflix and Xbox Live.

My question... is Blu-Ray worth the upgrade? Is the picture quality, audio and storage capacity of Blu-Ray really that much significantly better compared to DVD?

No doubt that it's significantly better. Only thing to note is that it isn't the only way of achieving that quality. An Xbox will play a high quality mp4 rip of a Blu Ray to the same standards without the hassle of another device.

Here is something I wrote concerning Physical Media and Digital Media.

Physical Media is still superior to anything Digital because media online rather it be Video or Audio is compressed. You also have right issues with Digital Media which means they can take the media offline or revoke access to it.

We own Physical Media but we don't own Digital Media companies like Itunes for example have access to the media and the Film & Music companies own the media . Let's say you have a movie downloaded but the company behind the film takes it off Itunes that means you no longer can watch it or download it. Plus owning the Physical Media is also good incase you fall on hard times you can use it as Collateral.

Personally I love owning Physical Media because I know I own it and no Media Company can take it away or revoke access to it. I am a proud DVD/Blu-Ray Collector.

Also the sad truth is people settle they rather have convenient then great quality that Blu-Ray offers.

Unless the MP4 is 25gigs/50gigs your losing quality but to each their own.

Heck, how can you get your media when the network is done? Physical media is still far superior, especially considering how outdated the infrastructure is in the US. The sad thing is, even if they update it, it will still be 10 years behind the times and then they'd spend 10 years arguing over if another upgrade is needed before being 10 years behind again once that was completed. I hate people who rave about the cloud and shit, when the infrastructure is not there for it.

As of right now 1080p is still not used to it's full potential.

I don't think it's worth it, no. I'm an avid DVD collector, and back when I could notice the difference between VHS and DVD completely I knew they were worth it. Right now I have HD and a good sound setup for movies, and it's good enough for me. I wouldn't get anymore enjoyment from a Blu-Ray than I do from a DVD.

Let me just say this if your worried about Picture Quality then Blu-Ray is the way to go because their is a difference between BR and DVD.
