I'm trying to burn a DVD of a movie, and I'm wondering what the best video file format to use is so that it will work on most general DVD players? I currently have it saved as both .AVI and .MPEG2 files. Neither wanted to work on a DVD player I tested it on.

Anyone have any useful advice?

What program are you using to burn it, mate?

I always use .avi and have never had a problem. I burn both data dvds and real dvds, although you can get so much more on a data dvd it doesn't work on a lot of DVD players. A real DVD though, one created with menus/chapters etc, I've found .avi always works perfectly if you're using Nero Vision and I'm sure other programs.

I personally use ConvertxtoDVD which I think is amazing and easy to use and Avi and Mpeg2 work on it great. I have made WWF PPV DVD's from 1996-2002

All worked great and flawless.

If you burning it to a DVD then you have to convert the video to .vob format anyway so it doesn't really matter as long as it's the quality you're looking for. ConvertXToDVD like ^ said is the way to go. Just open the file with it and it'll convert it to DVD format and then also burn the disc for you. If you need a link for it then PM me.
