iPhone falls to Galaxy S III
I dont see this lasting long, but it's still pretty impressive considering the stranglehold Apple had on their lead in the smartphone business.

Samsung may have lost big to Apple in the courtroom, but it’s just scored a victory in the marketplace. The Samsung Galaxy S III has stolen the title of the world’s most popular smartphone from the iPhone for the third quarter of 2012, according to data from Strategy Analytics.
The victory, however, likely won’t stick. While the GSIII has been on sale for the entire quarter — from July 1 to Sept. 30 — the iPhone 5 first went on sale Sept. 21, just nine days before the close of the quarter. Many iPhone buyers were likely waiting for the 5, and sales will likely pick up for Q4.
The numbers support this. Sales of the iPhone 4S fell drastically from Q2 to Q3, from 19.4 million phones to 16.2. Although Apple’s own statistics don’t break out iPhone sales by model, they also showed a big dip, which Apple attributed to anticipation for the next model.
Once the iPhone 5 went on sale, however, it’s clear there was massive demand. Sales numbered 6 million phones, alone accounting for 3.6% of the global smartphone market. Combined, the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 actually outnumber the Galaxy S III, 11.3% to 10.7%, but as individual models, the Galaxy S III beats the 4S, which is just 9.7%.

Samsung packed a ton of features — including NFC, a burst-shooting camera and its own Siri clone, S Voice — into the Galaxy S III and then backed it with a massive marketing campaign. Strategy Analytics attributes the GSIII’s success to “a large touchscreen design, extensive distribution across dozens of countries, and generous operator subsidies,” among other factors.
Mashable‘s review of the Galaxy S III said it was very capable, but some of the new features didn’t work as well as Samsung had advertised.
What do you think of Samsung GSIII becoming the top-selling smartphone on the planet? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Re: iPhone falls to Galaxy S III
yeah, S3 vs 4s
No shit the S3 outsold the 4s.
If the S3 and 5 went on sale on the same day, it wouldn't be pretty. That said, S3 is a great phone, and I want one. But I'll probably wait until the S4 in February or March.

I agree with you. But I also think that if you compare the S3 and the iPhone 5 numbers at the end of Q4 theyre going to be almost similar. It's really amazing how much ground Apple is giving up to android in the last 2 years. Nothing on an alarming level, it's just nice to see people taking notice of the fact that the iPhone isnt the only smartphone solution anymore.

Re: iPhone falls to Galaxy S III
Good to see not everyone are being blind sheep and buying the more expensive Iphone. There may be things that the Iphone can do that the galaxy can't, but when I ask iphone users what they are I'm usually met with "Ummm ahhhh errrr"
Even if there are features in the new iphone, if you're not going to take advantage of said features, might as well throw your money down the toilet.
It comes down to people being smart and making informed decisions, not being lazy and just following the crowd.

I'm a proud owner of G S3. It's a decent product, I never was a fan of i(insert word here) in the first place though.

I'm an iPhone user so probably biased, but the iPhone 5 is expected to have sold 40+ million come the end of December. If the S3 is even remotely close to that number then I'll eat my own hat, it doesn't stand a chance in Q4. That's just the way it is though, unless both phones are released on the same day or within a week of each other you'll never get an accurate comparison of consumer demand.

Re: iPhone falls to Galaxy S III
oi, fuck...lets focus on other phones "not standing a chance", instead of the fact that iPhone is no longer the dominant shareholder in the smartphone market. Typical iDevice marks can never just be fucking humble or objective.
And you cant really compare one device sale to the other because the iPhone releases ONE new model, while the Galaxy line has at LEAST 2 devices on it's line right now. The Note II and the S III.

Re: iPhone falls to Galaxy S III
What are you talking about with "marks"? That article compared sales with the S3 and the 4S when the 5 is already out. It's like comparing Wii U sales in December against PS3 sales, I really don't see what's to brag about here. I'm not marking at all, my company phone is an S3 and while I think it's a solid phone I personally use an iPhone 4 instead and will be upgrading to the 5 come contract end.
If anyone's "marking" then it's you, I only stated financial facts, or as close to such with a sales forecast, not once did I say iPhones were better. It's obvious the S3 would outsell the 4S because it's still Samsung's flagship phone, but the fact is it'll be destroyed in Q4 by the iPhone 5 because that's just how the market works.

Re: iPhone falls to Galaxy S III
i never said what was better or not, im stating that iPhone doesnt have the same grip it used to. Your rebuttal was "BUT IF IT WAS DA IPHONE 5, IT WOULD EAT THE OTHER PHONEZ 4 BREKFUST"...the comparison of the S3 to the 4S sales is a more appropriate one since the 5 wasnt out at the beginning of Q3, and alot of 4S users might be apprehensive about upgrading to the 5 right away.
Let's see the sales ofthe S3 and the Note 2 at the end of Q4. I'm willing to bet your prediction of the iPhone 5 "blowing the competition away in sales" becomes the overstatement of the year. It isnt about marking for one phone or the other with me. It's having an unclouded enough brain to look at the numbers and see that competition is alive and well in the smartphone market. Your argument looks like that of a desperate iPhone user to say "BUT NO, IPHONE SALES ARE STRONG AS EVER!"

Re: iPhone falls to Galaxy S III
I don't understand what you're reading from my posts. All I'm saying is the iPhone 5 will destroy the S3 in terms of sales in Q4, that's all I've said, and it's going to be true. Not exactly sure why you're bringing the Note 2 into it either, the article was comparing the S3 and the 4S at a time where the 5 was released. While we're at it shall we compare the Note 2 and the iPhone 5 then? Because the Note sure as hell isn't going to do 40 million in Q4 that's for sure. I don't see how I'm a "desperate iPhone user", I really don't care about the sales rate, sure if someone gave me an S3 and an iPhone 5 I'd be using the 5 but that's out of preference and no tarnish on the S3 at all, as already stated I've got one and it's a pretty nifty phone.
You're making an argument out of nothing where as I've provided financial facts to back up my statements.
Bottom line is Apple will beat Samsung in an iPhone 5 vs S3 or Note 2 Q4 sales competition and you're welcome to waffle on about anything else you like.
