Has anybody hacked their wii in any way?

I recently downloaded The Homebrew Channel which looks quite good, but not really sure how to use it.

The primary reason why I want to hack the console is space. We recently put our tv up on the wall, created a lot of space but now we have the DVD player and Wii being fed to it. The wii is fine and can actually sit behind the tv on the bracket hidden away, but the DVD player is in the way now with all of the wires leading down.

I had a little go last night at downloading some things to do it but it's just jargon to me sadly, and when I tried to get help on a forum I was lambasted for not really understanding. I know there are definitely more helpful people on here so I thought I would try.

Basically, has anybody here hacked their wii for any reason? How was it?

Hacked my Wii and it was fucking awesome, I wasn't able to play Skyward Sword during the time due to the lack of a motion plus, so I had to buy the hardcopy of the game, but other than that it was quite enjoyable.

My Wii is currently hacked. I never installed the app to become a DVD player and I have a semi-newer model and it won't run burnt discs. Instead bootlegged games would have to run via a flash drive. Anyways, I mainly use mine for emulation (NES, SNES, Genesis). It's okay, I play the emulators more on the Wii than I do actual Wii titles.

Had mine hacked for years now, did it back when it was overly complicated and you needed a legit copy of Twilight Princess in order to do so. Now its all simple as fuck with a memory card and a couple of files and shit lol. Only really hacked it to play copied games (first when you could only play them on disc, then wii games on usb and gamecube on disc, and now I think you can do gamecube on usb too?).

Used Google and looked up guides.

It wasn't necessarily hard, just kind of a pain in the ass.

I followed some instructions on youtube. Not too hard. I just use an external hard drive though, I don't actually burn games.

i don't know if its allowed , i won't risk putting the videos, but u should look up a user on youtube called microwavesam, he has really good and noob friendly tutorials on how to hack the wii. it really helped me hacked my wii easier

Great stuff, thank you all. I did chck on google a d a few forums but the consensus was because I didn't know what I was doing, then I wouldn't be helped.

You lot have been much more friendly and helpful. This part of the side is a serious credit to Wrestling Forum.

Just softmodded mine, I believe the newer black models can softmodded now, but don't quote me on this. The bomb shit is what I did, don't own a Wii anymore, but I still recall what I did to hack it. Which model do you own OP? The original white model or the new black model, and what region is it NTSC or other?

Edit: Seems you've already hacked your Wii, congrads if so.
