Hi guys

I'm not so good with technology and got recently an Ipad 3, I know most of my friends do some jailbreak stuff and I have absolutely no idea what on earth I am doing.

I've read some tutorials online with itunes and downloading a whole heap of files, but really got lost half way through.

Was wondering if someone could help me out cause right now it is asking for DFU mode and I have no clue what it wants from me.

Sorry if stupid question though.

If you dont have a clue, you need to give it to someone who does. The chances of bricking are slim, but you increase the probability of bricking your device if you dont know what you're doing.

Is it a must to do a jailbreak thing? can I live without it? or is my ipad useless without all this jailbreak and cydia stuff?

Jailbreaking lets you install cracked apps, customize the UI, install third party apps (SMS/EMAIL, etc.)

It isnt a MUST. It's all dependent upon what you want to do. Do you want to have the freedom to customize your user experience? If so, you're probably best to follow a step by step guide written in plain english.
