Would there be a way for, when moderators delete threads, to have a field that might be filled in pertaining to the reason it was deleted, which would be kept on record and also result in an automatic PM or email being sent to the original poster so that they could find out why it was deleted?

Have had this happen and it's confusing because it's not clear if a rule was broken or it was deleted out of dislike for the topic or something like that.

Most of the time a thread is dumped because it's complete garbage. If the OP can't figure it out then he/she has more issues than originally thought. Also, some threads end up merged into another thread.
