How do I put a gif in my signature, just bought a membership and couldn't figure out how.

Upload it on a site like tinypic.com or imageshack and copy the IMG code. Or you can upload it directly from your computer in the edit sigs option.

Whenever I get them to show up (if there not too large) they stay as pictures and not gifs (they don't move). Am I supposed to be uploading them were it says Upload Image from your computer.

If they are showing up as a still image either the file size is to big or you have gone over the dimensions limit.

yes they are saved into my computer as gifs, but they still don't move
