Fox Sports 1...Serious Threat to ESPN?
Sometime back, there was a thread here about all that was wrong with the Mothership (as Dan Patrick calls the four-letter sports network). Well, ESPN needs to bring it's A game now because on August 17, Speed Network will re-launch to become Fox Sports 1 and Fuel TV will become Fox Sports 2. It is hoping to ultimately launch into 90 million homes (although as of right now they are still negotiating new carriage deals with DirecTV, Dish, and Time Warner Cable) and is preparing itself to be a serious threat to ESPN.
It is already set with Major League Baseball, college football and basketball, the NFL, NASCAR and UFC. Plus, Fox Sports has inked a deal starting in 2015 to carry golf's US Open.
I'm actually looking forward to seeing what Fox Sports 1 can offer. I only find myself watching ESPN when there is a sporting event on, and otherwise catch glimpses of ESPN News, Mike and Mike, and the Sports Reporters.
I have to wonder, can FS1...provided they can get carriage deals done with everyone...eventually become a serious challenger to the sports empire that Bristol has built up?
