For example the French open is on live right now. Venus Williams is playing against someone from Poland named Urszula Radwanska. I was told I should be cheering for Venus since she is a fellow American. But I am cheering for Radwanska because she is hot. Is anyone on here always loyal to home country athletes?

Well I'm a hockey fan from the United States, so the answer is no. I would say the Olympics are the only time I root for guys based solely on their country of origin.

I'm also an American football guy and most guys that play in the NFL are American so it kind of makes their home country moot.

I'll pretty much always cheer for an Irish athlete over another country. I can see it being different for a country that has a large amount of success - like the US or whatever, though when they've just so many athletes it doesn't really matter.

I dont watch Tennis or only singles sports. I watch team sports and yes I tend to cheer for my home team or in hockey, any Canadian team that's not Ottawa... Unless Ottawa is the final team in the playoffs. In those team sports, I couldnt care less if you're from Toronto/Ontario/ Canada. I still dislike Crosby. I'll cheer the bunch of Europeans whose names I cant pronounce, even by sounding it out, on the Leafs. over Crosby.

I also never support an English team when they play in Europe, nor do I support England when they play in the World Cup.

I hope they get smashed silly when all the horrible fans crawl out the woodwork.

Good points from all.

I'm also switching back and forth to the Indy 500, I like Helio Castroneves mainly because I never watch racing and he is the only name I know thanks to Dancing with the stars and he seems cool.

In sports I cheer teams I like.

When Egypt was facing Japan in a football match at the Olympics I was cheering the Japanese team simply because I liked the Japanese team more.Not really much of a patriot I cheer those I like not those that happen to be of the same nationality as me.

Same. Love all the butthurt that comes from England losing at football.
