Greatest Footballer of all Time Tournament: German Players Round
The most successful European nation in the game’s history, Germany have won 3 world cups, 3 European cups and been to an extraordinary 12 major finals. Despite producing some of the greats in every position, the names aren’t perhaps as famous as they should be owing to a supremely effective but unflashy style which has since been altered somewhat with the current crop of aesthetically pleasing youngsters who are lighting up the national team but perhaps unfortunate to be around in the same era as one of the greatest national squads ever assembled.
Certainly the golden era for German football has to be in the 70’s which saw the national team win the 72 Euro and 74 World Cup and Bayern Munich prevail in the champions league with the threepeat from 74-76. The core element of that success owed a great deal to the devastating duo of Beckenbauer and Muller who helped to usher in this period of dominance much like Xavi and Iniesta have done in the past half decade for Barcelona and Spain.
But who is the greatest German footballer of all time and belongs in the next round with Charlton and Zidane? Apologies in any advance for any misspelt names.
*Poll to follow shortly*

Beckenbauer, fairly easy choice.
Most of these nations should be reasonably straightforward competitions but I'm waiting to see if Messi can trump Maradona for votes yet.

These rounds should be a lot closer, there was very little between Beckenbauer and Muller (you can argue one way or the other as to who was most responsible for the enormous success they enjoyed) and much less between Platini and Zidane. I can see Brazil and Italy being close rounds.

Re: Greatest Footballer of all Time Tournament: German Players Round
I reckon Pele will piss the Brazilian one, not that I'll be voting for him mind you. I'd presume Maldini might run away with the Italian one but that'll be much closer. I think this one has been so one sided due to the fact that whilst Muller is the ultimate goal scorer, Beckenbauer was one of, if not the, most complete players in history.
