Karl isn't even the best Malone! Though the rep I got from this thread from freeloader seems to agree with that statement

I don't really like listing the GOATs in order from 1-10, I honestly prefer doing it in tiers. It's fairly difficult to rank these guys in sequential order since they all played in different eras, rules, pace, etc. Doesn't help that many of us never really saw them perform in their time and can only go by limited footage and stats. So...

Not gonna lie, I'm probably a bit biased considering I'm a Lakers fan.

1. Mj
2. Kareem
3. Magic
4. Russell
5. Wilt
6. Bird

I think you can put almost all of them in any order from 1-6. Well, all of them aside from maybe Bird.

7. Kobe
8. Duncan
9. Shaq

I have Duncan and Kobe above Shaq, barely. Shaq's dominance was absolutely insane but Duncan and Kobe's success/skill edges him out to me. Kobe and Timmy are still somehow going strong and both of them are having incredible years considering their age and mileage. I can see either of them cracking that top tier if they get 1 more ring or even another Finals appearance.

10. Hakeem

The 10th spot is the toughest for me, I can see arguments for Oscar Robertson, The Logo, and maybe a few other guys but all of those guys have key flaws. Hakeem gets the spot for me because his game and footwork was just beautiful. Love watching videos of him school David Robinson.

LeBron at this stage in his career is possibly already in the top 15-20. I see him as a wing version of Shaq. Absolutely dominant and unstoppable. If he ages well and continues to build his resume, he'll most likely exceed the Kobe/Duncan/Shaq tier. I don't know if he can pass MJ as the GOAT though. LeBron has already failed miserably twice in the Finals whereas MJ was almost always flawless.

...

Now, to address the Kobe hate.

His dominance is why I am strongly hesitant to list Kobe at all; Kobe kinda did, get carried to 3 finals. And to be entirely fair - The Kings were straight up robbed in 02 and should of gone to the finals. Lakers should not of 3 peat.
Ehh, I don't like how people completely discredit Kobe's first 3 titles. Obviously prime Shaq was alpha on those teams compared to a young up and coming Kobe but let's not act like Kobe was a role player. It's like saying Duncan and Shaq were carried to their last couple championships since Wade and Parker got the MVPs. It's absurd. I mean, Kobe put up some insane numbers himself. Yes, Shaq definitely deserved those Finals MVPs I'm not arguing that but it was just smarter to go through your dominant big when he's up against Eastern Conference teams with forgettable starting centers like Rik Smits and Todd Macculloch (yup).

Last, we have Lebron. I didn't rank him, as his career is far from over. I will say this: at his current pace... (and I'm going to get flak for this no doubt) I think he really might have a chance at 6 titles. I think if he continues at this pace, he will end up ahead of Magic and Bird on the list. I'm not sure he'll pass MJ, but the fact Michael insists on putting Kobe ahead of Lebron, tells me that Jordan feels even a little bit threatened. That just helps solidify my thoughts on Lebron.

Plus the guy scored a lot of respect from me when he told fans to stop booing the Big 3 v2 last year and gestured them to clap as Paul, Kg and Ray came off the court. He is FAR more likeable than Kobe.
Likability has nothing to do with being the best player to ever step on the court. If that truly was the case, Magic would be everyone's GOAT and not MJ. Jordan was a total douche bag and probably still is an over-competitive douche, much like Kobe. I mean, the man was known for getting into fights with his teammates! He even punched Steve Kerr iirc. The amount of ridicule he would get now for antics like that in this 24-hour media cycle is unimaginable.

Also, you penalize Kobe for 'riding' Shaq in his first 3 titles (he was still the 2nd best player on the court in those Finals) yet you're not penalizing LeBron for laying the biggest egg ever for a GOAT candidate in the 2011 Finals?

The real deal:
0- Myself
1- MJ (6 titles, highest ppg career avg, 6 finals mvp, 3 slam dunks blah blah blah....)
2- Magic Johnson ( 6'9" point guard, 3 titles, bunch of mvp's, 10 or more apg)
3- Bill Russell (11 rings, second best rebounder of all time, although i must say he played for a great team compared to others)
4-Kareem Abdul-Jabbar( 6 championships, 6 mvp, all time scoring champ)
5-Wilt Chamberlain ( best player ever if stats meant everything. with all this dominance only 2 championships though)
6-Larry Bird (6'10'' could pass, shoot and rebound with ease, 3 titles, 3 mvp, 2 finals mvp)
7-Duncan( perhaps most consistent player ever, the big fundamental won 4 championships and 2 mvp)
8-Kobe (5 titles, 1 mvp, was helped by shaq and is a ballhog, but deserves this spot)
9-Lebron James( Along with Mj the most talented player ever, 1 tilte, 3 mvp, 1 finals mvp, most all around player of all time. if lebron continues playing like this he will climb many spots)
10-Shaquille Onea'l/ Hakeem Olajuwon ( cant decide between the strongest center against the dream).

No he wasn't, he never won a ring as the #1 option back in 2009 and was being labeled as a team killer, he wasn't even close. I put Hakeem above him because if you ask anyone who to start a team with, you're picking Hakeem over Kobe 100/100 times, likewise with everyone else in my top 10 except maybe Bird because Kobe kills him in longevity, and West if you're uneducated and just think he was a short white guy who only shot jumpers. My top 10 isn't based on just ringzz!!! I'm basing it on peak, longevity, all around game, leadership, MVPs, etc. And before someone brings up Kobe should have won MVP in his 35 PPG season, yes, but he robbed CP3 of an MVP in 07-08 so it evens out.

These lists are subjective, filled with bias, and pointless to argue. How many of you watched the majority of Wilt's, Russell's, Kareem's, Oscar's, etc careers? None of you? So how are you going to rank them properly?

I would take Kobe over Hakeem btw as well as Bird. Hakeem was great, but to deny Kobe's greatness due to idiotic labels such as team killer when he had already been a major piece in championship runs is . the fuck are you on about ether.

I didn't say he was a team killer, I said that's what he was labeled as. He wasn't anywhere close to consensus top 10 in 2009, and he still isn't consensus top 10 to some. And the 2004 finals really hurt Kobe's legacy for me, that was an all time garbage performance. IMO, worse than LeBron in 2011. It's still shocking looking back, Shaq was dropping 27/11 at 63% on a 4X DPOTY while Kobe put up a pathetic 23/4/3 on 38% and 17% from 3. Not to mention, 18 turnovers in 5 games. Hakeem carried a team of scrubs (besides Thorpe) vs the much better team. You can argue it was the perfect team around Hakeem (all spacing out the floor for him, made use of his great passing, had clutch shooters like Horry, etc), but still. Him and Duncan in 2003 are the only people all time who won a finals without a true #2 option

Oscar Robertson was a team killer, it is known, only won a title with Kareem.

He is vastly regarded as a top 10 by most people. Don't even get started on that. He has 5 rings and was a major part of all of them, one of the best guard defenders of all time, and has an all around ability on offense that makes him near unguardable one on one.

One finals trip doesn't take someone out of the conversation and you also don't lose in 5 games due to one player. Malone was hurt and Payton was a shell out there, not to mention the Pistons' killer defense was no joke. He still won 5 and made 7, if you're a major part of teams like that automatically puts you up there as one of the greats as there is no easy road to the finals(lolz that's totally a lie, just look at the East in the past 15 years since Jordan retired).

Once again this is obviously BIASED, SUBJECTIVE, and even UNFAIR as are all these arguments. They're made even more ridiculous by the fact most of these players all played in different eras with completely different rules and different playstyles. Teams these days play small while back when the Spurs won their first they had two 7 footers that DOMINATED.
